4 Chapter 3

*Ding*

Traits:

[Regeneration]

[Lesser Pain Resistance]

Skills:

[None]

I don't know what I was expecting but it was definitely more. I suppose it would be stranger if I had skills from the start. What are traits though? I wonder what those two do; [Regeneration] and [Lesser Pain Resistance]. From their names, I can tell I got them from my days back at the institute.

Let's see what they do first.

[Regeneration]

Rank: Rare

Level: V

[Increases natural health regeneration to surpass racial limits.

Increases health regeneration to 0.25/s]

The effect is pretty straight forward.

[Lesser Pain Resistance]

Rank: Uncommon

Level: IX

[Passively resists the effects of pain on the user.

Moderately decreases mental effects of pain]

[Regeneration] seems very useful. Considering the description, I'm guessing the health regeneration is a fixed value that normally can't be changed. It also explains my monstrous regeneration. On the other hand, [Lesser Pain Resistance] is something I would rather not discover its usefulness especially with such a vague description.

I think traits are supposed to be something like passive skills, while the Rank sounds like a rarity system and the level probably indicates the strength of the trait. I don't know about the Rank but the level can probably be increased.

It doesn't appear I can change my status for now at least. I have no idea how to raise the level of my [Regeneration] and I wasn't too keen on hurting myself to see if [Lesser Pain Resistance] will level up that way. Since my traits are passive, they might level up on their own after some time. Though I don't think it's going to be that easy.

That leaves my level.

I focused on my level and another screen popped up.

[Level 1]

Experience: 40%

It seems that extra experience really helped.

I can't live of cheese and bread for long so I have to leave the house sooner or later. It would be better if I kept to hunting goblins for now, having a higher level ought to help since there are probably creatures more dangerous than goblins out there.

I picked up my back pack and swung it to my shoulder. I slowly approached back to the door, took a deep breath, then unlocked it. I pulled the door slightly open and peeked down the hallway.

Nothing.

I stepped out into the hallway. The elevator is too dangerous to use so I'll have to use the stairs. I edged slowly towards the stairs as to not alert anyone or anything. I walked in and peeked down the stairwell.

There were three goblins below me, two [Goblin Worrier]s seemed to be conversing with each other on the first floor and one [Goblin Scout] was descending the stairs currently right below me.

I guess I have to take them out.

I unsheathed the dagger and crept up on the goblin, just as I was within arm reach of the goblin, it turned around to face me.

Luckily for me, it was unarmed so I tackled it and plunged the knife into its chest. I twisted the knife until it laid still.

Clank! Clank!

Damn, they heard me!
