Astral Merchant

Larcen was a man who took on low-paying jobs to earn a living. But he had a goal, and that was to become a diver, an occupation filled with uncertainty and high mortality rate. While it was dangerous, he had two reasons to pursue it. One was for riches and the other was because of the screen that floated in front of him. {System will unlock once the user goes to another world} He expected to get something that could help him evolve but little did he know that he would receive something far more versatile and powerful. Something that had the potential to overthrow the high-humans, the beings who had a hold on most of the Astral Dimensions.

Bang!

Larcen walked out of the room, only to see Betty sitting on the floor as she refilled her magazines. A belt with two knives attached to it was beside her along with a small bag that was similar to the one he was wearing at the moment.

She looked up at him once he walked out and said, "Looks like you're ready... Where are your melee weapons? The machete and the knife that you had on you when you came here."

"Well, I already have a gun so I thought I wouldn't need them but looking at your preparations, looks like I was wrong."

She nodded, "I have two belts but unlike my hip belt, those are for thighs or hands. They're in my bag's small pocket, come take them yourself."

Larcen did as he was told and took out two of the knife belts. They were adjustable so he could use his machete but once he put them on, the machete was too flimsy as it shook all the time and sometimes, it even weighed his pants down.

He tossed the machete into his bag after using a cloth to tie around its blade and patted the knife strapped onto his leg.  He used the other strap to keep his pistol and instead looked at Betty who was already waiting for him.

"Let's go. Today, I'll simply see how you fight and then think of what kind of training you need. Also, tell me your stats and if you have a skill, tell me about that too if it's combat related. I need it to make sure I don't make bad judgments."

Larcen glanced at her sideways before shaking his head, "I know that you are going to teach me and stuff but isn't it rude to ask for stats without telling yours?"

Betty slowed down but didn't stop while Larcen slowed down to match her pace. A few seconds of silence later, she spoke.

"Strength at 0.5, Stamina at 0.5, Agility at 0.7. As for mana, I bought a pill but it didn't work. I got a notification saying that I had to push all my stats to more than 1 to be able to safely increase my mana stat. I don't have any skill at this moment."

Larcen nodded, "0.6, 0.7, 0.7. Strength, stamina, and Agility respectively. As for skill, I do have one that increases my focus and to some extent, it did help me while I fought."

"Got it. Let's have lunch before we get moving."

*******

Larcen stood in front of a giant mirror in one of the clothes stalls as he stared at his reflection.

'Hmm.... I look okay.', he thought as he tilted his head sideways.

"Jack! We have to go!"

The moment he heard her, he looked away and ran downstairs before joining her as she walked outside. They walked in silence for thirty whole minutes as the area near them was already cleared by the other teams as there were only 4 main roads that led to the mall.

The strays that came from the other roads were killed by the last team that was stationed near the mall. It was a good system but Larcen believed that it had its drawbacks. He did not understand why only a few people were ready to fight while the others took shelter.

"Hey Jack, I will go and take up the high ground on this building. I will take care of your back while I watch you fight.", she said as she looked at the goblins a few meters ahead of them while she crouched behind a car.

Larcen didn't say much and simply nodded. He did not trust her with his life yet but decided to take up the gamble as the situation on earth wasn't so bad that people were extremely desperate for resources.

Once she saw him nod, she climbed the stairs and took up a good spot on the first floor as the rifle did not have a great range.

'If only I had another weapon... I have to somehow get back Dad's bunker from that pervert. How could he just walk in and claim it as his property? Ugh!'

She watched Larcen stare at the different colored goblins for a few seconds before standing up.

'If Ken is right, those different colors mean different stats... gray being the weakest. As for the strongest ones... I will have to find out myself.' she thought as the goblins turned to look at her partner.

Larcen pulled the pistol out with one hand while he equipped the knife with the other before dashing forward toward the group.

"What in the hell is he doing? He has a damn gun!", she murmured as she cocked the bolt of her rifle before having her gun ready, expecting him to do something dumber.

But what she saw made her relax her strength on the trigger as she stared at him, her mouth slightly open.

'He has no technique but how am I supposed to train someone who doesn't make a mistake?'

Every time he swung his knife, a goblin fell and even when he was surrounded, he wasn't using his pistol.

There were goblins of three different colors. One was the most common grey while the other two were dark green and a lighter shade of green. She wanted to analyse their strengths but Larcen simply made it impossible to do so as he seemed to be able to kill all of them with the same efficiency.

The battle with that particular group was short but once they all fell, she saw another group running towards Larcen. There was one yellow goblin that looked more ferocious than the rest in the group and once she looked at it, she knew that it was a stronger version.

The goblins that were spawned were progressively stronger as days passed and Yellow was the newest one. Both of the green variants came out on the same day so she needed more information on them.

She aimed her rifle at the yellow goblin and was about to shoot but instead, she heard a gunshot from below.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

I feel bad for the goblins....
