2 Elite Detectives

In the summer of 2040, a ciphered invitation spread worldwide through the internet. Most of the greatest minds in the world deemed it to be unsolvable, but that was because those extremely intelligent individuals who had deciphered it disappeared from the face of Earth forever.

A figure of a woman strolled nervously on the streets of Los Angeles City in California.

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter!

She lowered the umbrella she was carrying to cover her face from other people's eyes and protect her from the relentless rain, wary of delinquents in the city.

It was past midnight already, so the bustling street during the day should be empty.

But that wasn't the case in the residential district of downtown LA.

No, not just in downtown LA, but most of Los Angeles was often livelier because of nocturnal people, who party in clubs, play in casinos, and whatnot.

In short, a city that never sleeps.

However, the streets in the business district of downtown LA, where the woman must cross after she left the bustling residential district, were still cleared out at night.

As she walked on the empty sidewalk, a hair-raising and lecherous pair of eyes from a dark alleyway landed on her alluring figure.

She was clad in a slim-fitting pencil skirt that ended slightly above her knees and a fitted white blouse that displayed her curvaceous body figure.

Worried that she might attract unnecessary attention while walking alone in an empty street, she walked faster towards her destination.

But her hot bikini body was bangin' no matter how much she had tried to hide it.

The anxiety she felt reflected in her body language, looking from one side to another and involuntarily shaking while walking faster with each step she took as if there's an impending danger.

Before she could reach the next block, another dark alley she had to cross waited for her like a creeping monster.

She bit her lower lip to muster her strength and did not turn her head in the dark alley's direction while passing it, murmuring something as if she prayed that nothing bad wouldn't happen to her.

But a looming arm came into her view, morbidly pulling her into the shadow in a blink of an eye.

She attempted to shout but no voice came out since another man who enigmatically appeared from her back, covering her mouth shut.

They dragged her into the perimeter of the dark alley, rashly tossing her to the dead-end walls.

She wanted to fight, but she doesn't have the ability to lift a muscle because of her nervousness and terror.

Her legs twitched violently, and it eventually made her collapse to the wet floor because of the relentless rain.

They were about to gang up on her but...

"Boss! A man is smoking in the alley's passageway. He will see what we are about to do to this woman," one henchman whispered carefully.

But his voice still echoed a little in the quiet dark alley, enough for the man outside to hear it, and made the man walk closer to thugs.

Tap, tap, tap...

"A man, you say? Just show him your gun and scare him off. Don't disturb me while I play with this woman. This is a good catch. She is a blonde bombshell." The one who seemed the leader of the pack furiously replied while hurriedly removing his belt, which took longer than usual because he's forcefully rushing it.

The woman's under-wired bra came into the leader's view after the relentless rain made her white blouse so transparent.

"Hahaha! I didn't mean to intrude, but if I were you, I would not even think about that."

An imposing, lone-smoking man confidently walked into the scene as brave as a lion despite seeing their numbers, stealing the thugs' attention including their leader.

The man was a tall, slender man with pale skin that they could effortlessly see in the dark.

He pushed his big round eyeglasses back up onto the ridge of his nose and adjusted it properly in front of his jet-black eyes.

He was clad in a white shirt with a loosened black necktie around his unbuttoned white shirt's collar and his sleeves were rolled up to his forearm, just before it reached his elbows.

The man spat the cigarette on the floor and stepped on it with one hand inside his pant's pocket while the other one was scratching his head with jet black disheveled hair, provoking them with his dreadful grin.

It was pouring unceasingly, but the man doesn't seem to care despite being soaked.

The man's relaxed demeanor alarmed the gang which was composed of six muscular people.

The man's casual behavior gave off an impressive atmosphere, but it sent chills down to the thugs' spines.

"W... Who are you!?" The leader demanded nervously as if he had an idea about the man's identity already.

He shifted his body to face the man's direction, narrowing his eyes to identify the lone intruder.

"Oh, and by the way... If I were you, I would not remove my eyes from that GORGEOUS woman behind you," Liam playfully stated with a laugh in his solemn voice.

"Huh!?"

KSSSKK-!!!

Before the leader could completely turn his head back to the woman on the ground, a foot came flying in his direction and rapidly greeted his face with a devastating kick.

"UAAACCKKK!!!"

The five inches heel of the woman's shoe stabbed the leader's face, which was sharp enough to pierce through his cheek and made him taste the mud.

The leader's head rotated marvelously several times before it completely detached from the body.

The blood from the leader's body sprinkled artistically in the air, landing on the thugs' already petrified bodies as the leader's head futilely fell to the ground and bounced several times pathetically.

"B... Boss?!" The person who the leader spoke with earlier mumbled, terrified at what had transpired in front of him.

One kick with extreme precision from the woman they dragged was all it took to end their leader's life in a flash.

No, to be precise, the force used was way more than enough; it was overkill.

To think that the woman did it in a tough position and with minimal momentum from the ground simply demonstrated how capable she was as a combatant.

Some thugs attempted to escape, but Liam blocked their way and laughed balefully.

He stared at them menacingly as if he was peering deep into their souls, hoping for an opportunity to join the game.

The thugs did not anticipate the setup, but... every inch of their body warned them that the two assassins were not on their level, causing them to freeze on their feet.

The woman stood firm close to them, releasing a burst of uncontrollable laughter out of her delicate mouth as if the thugs were amusing.

She flipped her naturally blonde hair to her back that almost reached her waistline.

"Hahaha! Morons, how's my acting skills? I practiced several variations of that. My husband likes it when I act innocent if you know what I'm talking about."

Liam unintentionally released a fake cough after hearing it.

"Oof... I wasn't supposed to say that, was I? Well, nevermind. All of you want to play, right? Then let's play, imbeciles," Selene demanded in a threatening voice with a smirk after she gave them a disdain glare, looking down on her prey.

It was so dark in the alley that the thugs did not clearly see the two people's facial features, but after scrutinizing it, they immediately recognized the two strangers' identities.

The infamous detective duo that currently worked with the Los Angeles Police Department.

It was known in the public that the L.A.P.D. Chief of Police, William Grayson, had persuaded the higher authorities to allow the couple in the same team and department even if they have an intimate relationship to bring down the mafia behind the growing rate of crimes in the city.

The U.S. President decided to put them on trial before for some time to see how they would function together.

And shockingly, the pair complemented each other's detective abilities and brought down dark syndicates, solved the hardest crime cases, caught disguised serial killers and assassins in broad daylight, and deprived more than half of the elected politicians from their positions because of corruption or hidden agendas they maneuvered under the table.

Terrorists, criminals, unlawful entrepreneurs, spies from other countries, and even corrupt politicians feared the detective duo.

The two were the so-called greatest obstacle in the wicked creatures' dark careers, an impenetrable massive wall.

Many had attempted to assassinate them or framed them for ridiculous crimes like a hundred times already, but all failed disappointingly.

The detective duo was at least one step ahead of everyone in anything.

Their enemies could attempt as many times as they want, but that would only result in a backlash.

Their attempts would not end up good in their favor, as if they were sending themselves into a cell with insatiable beasts.

The duo's very existence was enough to prevent crimes in the city. Who else could do that just by simply existing?

Those wicked people in America felt like they were on death row, awaiting their turn to get executed because of Liam and Selene's growing careers.

And if some individuals were at a crime scene, the detective duo's arrival was more than enough to make them feel safe, as if their appearances were telling everybody that everything was going to be alright.

The public perceived them as heroes, symbols of peace and justice, and more comical titles.

There were even rumors that the two had given authorizations that ordinary cops and detectives didn't have.

A fearsome power that came with immense responsibilities.

Nonetheless, almost every living human in the country trusted the two with their life, even the U.S. President himself.

So it wasn't hard to believe that the rumors about their special authorities were true.

No one would complain if someone suddenly exposed it in public because they knew the duo wouldn't misuse it.

The public might even rejoice about that news.

That was the background of the two people who showed up in front of ordinary street thugs who preyed on innocent office women in the empty streets in the business district of downtown LA during nighttime.

The thugs thought they had caught a big fish earlier, but they found a massive shark instead in their small pond, ravaging their small wooden boat before they even realized it.

But why prominent detectives like the two would hunt lowlifes like them?

The duo's oppressive atmosphere pressed down on the thugs' shoulders as if the gravitational pull in the dark alley had promptly intensified, pulling them strongly towards the ground.

The baffled bunch of idiots mustered their courage, desperate to fight for their freedom.

Having no choice but to engage in a fight against the elite detectives, one of them pounced towards Liam in an attempt to escape.

BANG-!!

Instantly, a bullet passed through the man's head, frightening the thugs behind him.

It was the same person who asked the leader of the pack earlier, the right-hand man.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you earlier. I must apologize. Can these gentlemen do me a favor and kindly distance themselves from me? Please don't come near me. I have a not so severe mysophobia or is it germaphobia? Or whatever that is. I hope all of you can understand, gentlemen. I could not tolerate disgusting blood land on my hunky-dory body. Hahaha. Besides, I would prefer it if none of you stain my getup," Liam joked around as if he was going to throw up from the nauseating appearance and reaction of the man he had immaculately shot in the head.

But after a moment, Liam's gaze shifted from the man he just killed to the thugs, glaring at them coldly as if he was daring them to move.

The remaining thugs were taken aback!

They have guns and knives in their arsenal, but they knew that the moment they attempts to resist, the two would have a reason to exterminate them on the spot.

Liam and Selene killed the leader and right-hand man with no hesitation as if they were used to it, and it greatly shocked the thugs.

The rumors that they could judge individuals and execute them on the spot abruptly happened before the thugs' eyes.

But no, that wasn't the actual case at all.

The two elite detectives were mere executioners of the government, their greatest human weapons.

The two only knew who they should assassinate beforehand after they had memorized the list of criminals sentenced to death confidentially by the government.

The two didn't feel any pleasure and were grossed out by their killings, but they were at a point of no return.

The lives they had taken were innumerable, and it didn't seem that it would stop sooner as the two were still at the peak of their careers.

Everyone thought it was a privilege granted to them but from their viewpoint, it was nothing but a burden, a sickening part of their job, especially for Liam, who has a not-so-severe mysophobia.

Of course, that's the real case.

Who would want to kill people by their choice, anyway?

The consequences of the deaths they had caused would unavoidably haunt them forever, mostly in their sleep.

And the leader of the pack, along with his right-hand man, was part of the criminals that had been secretly sentenced to death by the government.

"January 20, 2041, an Asian college student disappeared in this dark alley. Tell us everything you know if you want to lessen your sentence in prison!"
