Broken and Reborn

When was the last time I ran from a battle?

My lungs were burning with every breath that I took adding onto it. The sounds of the hastened footsteps of enemies echoed in my ears as they were giving chase as if I was a wounded Wolf being hunted by a bunch of coyotes. My vision began to blur and for the first time ever since I was a mere child, my mind was filled with fears and doubts about surviving this encounter.

"Bastards flock in groups don't they. Let's see your worth, Freaks!"

Rage had filled my heart as I stopped for a second to confront the hunters head on, they were fast and precise, but their strikes were not honed to perfection, thus giving the chance to fend them off with ease but their numbers would quickly begin to overrun me as I had to use the last tool of my current arsenal to get away. Assassins' oldest tool, the Smoke bomb

The diversion would provide enough time to get my arse off of there but these bastards. They are not human. They don't feel pain nor even flinch at the sight of wounds, commendable, yet extremely uncanny even for those fallen down to insanity.

The thoughts would rush in my mind but I failed to notice that someone else was after my head. A bright glint shined through the roof of the opposing building I was running on top of as I barely dodged the bullet fired. Snipers, zombies, everything was out to kill me.

As I approached the edge of the rooftop and saw how the hunters were not slowing down, the choices were few and my adrenaline was rushing through my whole body to the point of becoming drunk off of it, the final decision came and I jumped off like a mad man.

I had equipped myself with a pair of high tech fang gloves that broke the fall by sliding off the side of the wall, with the fangs leaving markings up to 1 inch of depth. As I fell onto the alleyway next to the building, two of those modified science offsprings lunged at me, dodging in time by jumping in the air and hitting them with a split kick as a sewer entrance was there free to be used for an escape, an ugly one at that.

I grabbed the entrance and threw it to the side, entering the filthiest of places on the planet. If those monsters wouldn't kill me, this stench would but I had no time to waste on criticizing the maintenance of the city's sewers.I began to run through the endless sewers, the sounds I heard from those things' screeching echoed through the paths, each disorienting me about their actual location.

I looked for a spot to rest and catch my breath and once I had found it, I raised my arm and looked at my wrist, with a digital image showing a blueprint of the sewers. I studied it for a moment until I saw an exit through a water discharge, fortune smiles on me, but I lack the faith that this will continue.

I began to run towards the discharge point with all the stamina left in my body but as I was advancing towards it, I heard water flopping behind me…They had found my trace. I hastened my speed to the point my body began to ache, breathing was the same as if darts were being drilled into my lungs.

"2 LEFTS. 3 RIGHTS."

The blueprint of the sewers coursed through my mind at such a rate I thought my brain circuits were being fried. The time slowly began to run out as in front of me 8 of those monsters were coming to block the path, but as it was the only way to get to the discharge point, the need to power through was adamant!

"HUAHHHHH!"

I blocked a flying kick from one of the monsters with my right arm, grabbing its foot and throwing it towards another one on the left. As I drew out my blades, charging in, dodging a back hand punch then following by stabbing its right arm with another trying to throw a direct punch throwing one of the blades with my left arm at its head as it pierced through, using my right arm to finish the job with the one I was holding by stabbing it through the head as well.

The 4 others were passive as my ears picked up the sounds of their comrades that were starting to approach my position rapidly, charging through them landing critical strikes at what I thought were their vital organs, as my hands grabbed the last one and threw him towards the others to slow them down.

Almost there, freedom! I could live with the disgusting stench for the upcoming weeks but as my eyes picked up the silver rays of the moon's light, my back suddenly felt as if it was pierced through by a bullet and in reality it was.

A stream of blood gushed out of my wound as a bit got coughed out of my mouth. I turned over to see those freaks of nature wait patiently as they made way for someone else that was emerging from the shadows.

"GOODNESS ME! Is that my dear Hael on the ground?"

Don't tell me, I looked up towards the figure holding a pistol which was still smoking with a pattern that was familiar, A blue rose.

"Ausha… I do suppose you have remained the same old street whore to shoot someone in the back…"

"Even in death's door you remain obnoxious. Which is why I adore You!"

This bitch's name was Ausha, a top assassin like me. A sadistic whore who gains pleasure first before killing her victims, I always found her to be a disgusting human being. But lo and behold, my end will come from the end of her muzzle… I should have killed her back in Germany. To say that I despise her is an understatement, I absolutely wish to cave her skull in with the own weapons she carries so proudly as my hands gave it their all for me to get up with my wound hurting like hell.

"Surprised a pistol like mine was able to pierce through your armor? Armor piercing rounds combined with a shot of a Desert Eagle, it's a match made in heaven don't you think?~"

"Yea, like you selling your body to mere temporary pleasure. That is why you never surpassed me in this life, nor will you in your next."

I grinned maliciously at that comment knowing that her pride was directly hurt, my senses could feel her aura intensifying as she shot 3 more times to the point my body was barely able to stand at the edge of the discharge point, about to fall to my death, if not succumb to blood lost. My vision was blurry and I could feel my lungs being filled with blood with one of them being pierced through.

"I will admit, those were some good last words. You Eliraless filth~"

Elira… The power that I never achieved, as my eyes looked up at her, I witnessed her hair change from a bright rose color to a lushful green as her gun transformed with its shape and color as well..

"May your life give birth to a more beautiful flower."

The last thing I heard… Was a gunshot from one of my old acquaintances as my body began to fall down towards the abyss with my life flashing before me. All decisions my mind thought were the righteous ones, all the people my hands have taken from this world, all came to naught and were being used as nothing more but a coping mechanism to keep my soul at rest.

The filthiest scums are those like me, who dare to call killing a way to clean this world, as we had failed to see the greater vision that could prevent many tragedies. Perhaps this was my fate, to die alone and COUGH! Ausha's Elira had poisoned me… My own blood covered my face as from the last wound I had received a flower was beginning to bloom as I closed my eyes for the last time…

"I will save you all a spot in hell but yet… Why do I feel alive?"

At that moment, a mark began to print itself onto Hael's body, beginning from his heart down to the fingertips of his right arm. His wounded body and blood fell down in the wastes of this society as it began to color the water with a crimson red. A kindle of a dark flame was slowly lit and began to rejuvenate his wounds, healing him with his body floating on the waste filled puddle just enough to make him able to breathe. Was this truly the end?

Enjoy.
