Lost Echoes

A shudder ran through Blake's body as he tried to recall the face of his mother. The once-familiar features of her warm smile and kind eyes now felt like a distant, unreachable memory. Panic gripped him as he stumbled to a halt, his breath coming in short gasps.

"Mom... why can't I remember your face?" he whispered, his voice cracking with vulnerability. He clenched his fists, nails digging into his palms, as the horrifying realization settled within him. The sense of loss was almost too much to bear.

"Jay, what's happening to me?" he asked, his voice barely audible. The wind howled in response, offering no comfort or answers.

The landscape around him seemed to mock his despair, its desolation reflecting the emptiness growing inside him. As he trudged onward, his legs trembling beneath him, Blake couldn't shake the strange feeling that had taken root in his heart.

"Something's not right," he murmured, his brow furrowed. "I feel like... like something's been ripped away from me, and I don't know why."

He paused for a moment, his eyes scanning the barren horizon. There was nothing but endless, lifeless terrain stretching out before him. But the gentle wind persisted, urging him forward. With a weary sigh, Blake continued to follow it, his every step heavier than the last.

The weight of his thoughts threatened to crush him, but he refused to let them break him. Not yet. For now, all he could do was put one foot in front of the other and hope that the answers he sought were waiting for him at the end of this hellish journey.

"Whatever it takes," he whispered, steeling himself against the pain that threatened to consume him.
