16 Healing

' How do I go about treating an injured monster now?' Jerouch thought to himself while pressing his thumb on his chin.

' Tsk, too bad I didn't take any medical courses back on Earth. Who in hell would think that I will find myself in this kind of situation anyways? '

' Umm, let's see if this works. ' He drew closer with caution.

' Hello Mister, I'm only trying to help out, okay? ' He waved his hands in the air as a sign of 'I meant no harm '.

After pausing briefly to observe the roc, he finally moved closer until he was inches away from the creature.

' Healing. ' Jerouch muttered in a hushed tone with anticipation.

A soft green light shone from Jerouch's two palms that were placed close to the large wound on the roc's body.

His mana dropped at an alarming rate, and after a while, he stopped, his hands already feeling numb.

' Just as I suspected, it's working. ' Jerouch smiled.

It was his first time using the healing skill on others, and seeing it work delighted him.

' However, it's slow, and my mana is draining faster than the rate at which the wound is healing. ' He analysed in his head as he slumped to the ground. His face was covered in sweat and his breathing felt weak due to exhaustion.

' Just what did he fight that left him in this dire state? ' Jerouch's eyes were still on the roc as he mumbled.

' And more importantly, how did I suddenly get transferred from inside the dungeon to the middle of a forest close to a dying roc? '

Multiple questions and possibilities were going through his mind as he found the whole situation odd.

Jerouch lay in this position for a couple of minutes with no answer to his questions.  Eventually, he rose, feeling the rumbling of his stomach go in and on.

' Hopefully, I don't get eaten while trying to search for something to eat. ' He giggled in a disjointed manner.

Jerouch then ventured into the forest aimlessly, making sure to leave markings as he walked, lest he lose his bearing back to where the roc was.

He walked past many trees of varying colours and sizes, bearing different kinds of fruits, which he plucked.

Most of the trees were at least fifty meters tall in this region. Fortunately for him, some of them had fruits that hung downward, a few of them even touching the ground.

There's no way a roc would eat fruit, but at least his stomach would be full.

As for hunting monsters? Jerouch didn't consider it twice.

Most of the monsters here were high rankings ones, and he would rather not mess with them. At least not alone.

His search for food didn't have anything unusual to it as, after about two hours, he was back at the entrance of the cave where the roc was still lying.

The roc turned his head slightly as he heard footsteps approaching, but he soon retracted his eyes after seeing who it was.

Jerouch approached again, and he commenced with the healing process.

This time around, he persisted longer, and the wound had an obvious shrinkage.

He wiped the sweat trickling from his face, and he supported himself with his left arm that rested on the ground.

He was feeling light-headed due to the overconsumption of mana, and he would have to rest for a while before continuing with the job.

[Healing has received an upgrade- the rate of healing has increased, and mana consumption has lessened.]

' Whew! ' Jerouch breathed out as he fell to the ground.

It had been three days of relentless usage of his spell, and he had grown bored and tired.

He only stopped when his mana was at its lowest or when his stomach wouldn't stop rumbling.

The good side to it, though, was that the large wound on the roc had shrunk to one-third of its initial size.

And with the new notification, he was sure that he would be able to round up in four days or less.

' Haha, who said you need to practice med to nurse a dying patient back to life,' he laughed like a lost maniac,' So far you have magic, the undoable is doable. '

After resting for almost an hour, he got up from his lying position.

'' Hey big guy, you haven't eaten for days now, don't you want to hunt? ''

After spending days with the roc, Jerouch had become relaxed around him quite well, and he now patted his head.

'' You won't be hunting the crazy monsters like the one that injured you, just the small ones for your feeding and proper recovery. '' Jerouch said in a nice, convincing tone that carried the warmth of concern.

He didn't know who or what injured the creature, but he couldn't care less.

Anyone including the roc, who saw Jerouch currently would think that he was truly concerned for the creature with all the soft radiant smiles on his face.

But who was Jerouch? Would he really care much whether a roc he barely knew ate or not…

He needed the roc for a plan he was concocting, and that was why the roc needed to recover as soon as it could.

The roc was silent for a while before he started flapping his wings.

His enormous body rose, and he spread his wings while raising his head.

'' Haha, good boy. '' Jerouch patted the roc feathered body. '' Don't worry, I'll accelerate the healing process, deal? ''

He wasn't sure whether the roc could understand everything he said, or if he only acted based on intuitions.

However, that would be left for later, the major concern was to hunt low rank monsters to feed the roc.

Logically, he believed that the roc would recover even faster with proper nutrition.

Jerouch didn't even realize how close he was to the truth.

If the roc had got a high rank monster as a source of food, he would've recovered faster than the healing spells that Jerouch was painstakingly using.

And just like that, a human and a monster, headed to hunt monsters.

Jerouch didn't know, but his hunts with the roc were bound to come with many unforeseen circumstances.
