"Arrow Shield." She muttered. She immediately felt dizzy and she relaxed on the ground to gain balance as she stared at the book which just laid in his belongings.
"This book is the only book in the whole world, this shows how precious you are to me. I wrote this myself but never got the chance to publish it. Now I think you deserve to have it. Keep it safe and it might help you in the future." The voice rang in her head. It was then she realized it was her father giving the book to her. She could only wonder why she couldn't remember anything of the book. Something felt wrong to her. Immediately, she heard the entrance door downstairs close. She hurriedly rushed out of the room and into her room where she hid the book in her wardrobe.
"Sian?" She heard her mom call and she rushed downstairs.
"Hi mom." Sian greeted.
"Guess what? I actually got a job!" Lisa exclaimed.
"A job?"
"I know right? Its unbelievable, or will I say its a miracle." Lisa said and brought out a bottle of wine.
"I bought wine so we could celebrate." Lisa said and stared at Sian who had an uncertain look plastered on her face. She sighed and walked closer to her.
"This is a new start, for both you and me. I know I've not been quite a good mother to you but I promise to make up for all those times I wasn't good enough." Lisa said and Sian shook her head.
"I hate fake promises mom, I'm sure that rings a bell. But you've only been good at fake promises. I'm not a kid anymore and this is clear for me to understand that you only think about yourself. Coming down here in the first place was all for yourself."
"I did it for your sake! To protect your sanity!" Lisa exclaimed angry at how inconsiderate she could be.
"Well you should be doing a good job right?" Sian said and hurried upstairs while Lisa stood helplessly.
Emily sat in Devin's office with a glass phone in her hand which viewed Drake's supernatural personality.
"Do you think we should get him back into the shield?"
"No, this information should remain with us for as long as possible and for that to happen, we have to keep him away from the shield until we find a way out." Devin suggested and Emily nodded.
"Keep an eye on him out there. Anything can happen at anytime." He added and Emily stretched her hand towards him and held his hand.
"Thank you. I knew I'd always count on you." Emily spoke.
"He's also as important to me as he is to you Emily. He shouldn't end up like Adam." Devin said and Emily's expression immediately changed. Seeing this, he placed his second hand on top hers smiling reassuringly.
"Nothing will go wrong this time." He assured.
In the night,
Sian laid on her bed facing the ceiling as so many thoughts ran through her head.
As soon as she heard Lisa's room door close, she hurried up, taking the book from her wardrobe. She fell back on her bed and started reading the book.
"In the beginning... There were all sort of sorcerers, diviners, wizards and so on but it all faded at the invent of technology. What we didn't realize was that this technology would bring to our eminent deaths. Its triumph and acknowledgements worldwide has subjected the world to more harm. Ours began with the war, precisely in the 1970's. It brought beings the world has never known or foreseen. It led to our destruction. What looked like our fight for our country's victory became a hunt to end our lives. Unfortunately, choices to live has nothing to do with this, its only death, our death."
Suddenly she paused as she remembered her dads voice speak.
"I wrote this myself but I never got the chance to publish it."
With this, she immediately sat on her chair before the table her laptop laid. She wanted to do something good for her dad, that which she wasn't able to do when he was alive and making the book known to the world is something he'd probably be proud of wherever he is.
Just as she started typing on her computer, she paused realizing Lisa may find out about everything sooner if she continued with her profile. She then immediately switched into using an anonymous account.
In the morning,
Drake walked into the school with Casey and Jamie.
"Hey, Mr handsome is here." Leah who walked to Sian where she stood putting her books inside her locker spoke.
"Can you stop it Leah?"
"What? Things hardly change around here you know, so its okay if you also like him."
"Leah..." Sian called with a warning look, then she started walking towards the classroom while Leah followed.
"I won't judge you." Leah persisted and Sian exhaled deeply.
"Perhaps you are the one who has something for him." Sian said and Leah scoffed.
"He's too handsome for my liking. Besides, you should be glad we wouldn't have to have an issue about it in the future." Leah replied and Sian rolled her eyes.
"Can you take a look around you Leah? There are so many competition and I'm not ready to be in the Limelight. Secondly he already has a girlfriend."
"Oh screw that. I've seen the look on his face Sian. I've been with a thousand and one guys and I know when they are actually in love." Leah said and Sian chuckled.
"Its not all about love Leah. Things work out a lot differently up there." Sian said as they got into the classroom. For some reason that managed to keep Leah quiet as they sat on their seat.
"You okay?" Sian asked wondering why she suddenly became quiet.
"If you were ever asked to bring something so precious to you, you once lost, back, what will it be?" Leah asked. Sian paused remembering her dad, that will be the one thing she wanted back because if he were there so many things would have been avoided.
"Why are you asking me that." Sian inquired and Leah just smiled.
"Just curious to know." She replied and turned away pretending to be busy.
Immediately the door was pushed open revealing a boy who looked angry as he looked around the classroom and Leah smirked.
"You there!" He exclaimed pointing to Leah and Sian had to make sure it wasn't her he was referring to.
"Who is he?" Sian asked. "And why is he pointing at you?"
"He is the so called most feared in the school, Jackson Greg." Leah said as he walked to her. He stamped his hand angrily on her desk but she just stared indifferent.
"How dare you..."
"Me? What did I do?" Leah asked in satisfaction.
"Don't play ignorant or I'll do what you can't even imagine." He threatened.
"What happened to your face?" She asked staring at the plasters on his face and he hit her table.
"Leah!" That alone made Sian shiver. As she tried to sneak away from her seat to avoid getting involved, he turned to her and dragged her to himself holding her tightly by the arm which made her wince.
"You got all my friends admitted into the hospital you freak. I heard she's now your one friend. Wait and watch what I do to her." He said dragging her out and Leah angrily walked after him.
"Jackson!" Leah called. Meanwhile all the students were watching and they were eager to see how the whole scene ended, so they followed behind but maintained their distance.
"Hey, please just listen. You're getting all this the wrong way." Sian spoke. All her life she had never fought with anyone not to talk of the most feared in the school and on her second day of transfer. She could only see her desperate need for a silent life in school wash down the drain just because of her association with a girl she never even liked to begin with. She could only wish a teacher will come to her rescue, only for her to hear a student say.
"The teachers are in a board meeting with the principal. I'm sure this will unfold very bad, no one can save that transfer student from Jackson now."
Sian's heart clenched in trepidation.
"Don't involve her in this Jackson. Its just between you and I."
"Not after getting I and my friends almost electrocuted to death." He said and everybody's eyes shone.
"You almost killed me." He added.
"Yet, you're still alive standing before me." Leah spoke and Jackson folded his hands angrily. Calling on to two boys who held Sian tightly, he took a bucket of water that laid by the side and poured it on her and they all gasped.
Just then Drake, Casey and Jamie walked into the scene.
"What's going on?" Jamie spoke.
"Okay, I think we need to get out of here." Casey suggested turning to leave only to notice that Drake didn't make any move.
"Drake? Let's go." She persisted but he didn't respond instead he kept on staring at Sian. For some reason, he felt there was something strange about her.
"Don't tell me you want to get involved in this." she spoke.
"I never said I was getting involved." Drake replied dryly as he stared at how Jackson took out a naked wire.
"What are you doing Jackson?!" Leah exclaimed but he just joined the wires together releasing a spark. Sian struggled to get off his grip seeing this. She had already started breathing fast in fear and that was when she realised she had left her inhaler in her locker.
"Don't worry Leah, she'll survive, the same way I survived." He said walking closer and the two boys holding her immediately left her. Just as he wanted to drop the wire down on the wet ground, Leah and Drake angrily took a step to take action when they suddenly heard a voice.
"Whats going on here?!"
"Principal Gabe...." The students immediately recognised his voice and they all rushed into their different classes leaving the two boys holding Sian, Sian herself, Leah, Jackson and the three shields. Leah then dropped her hands exhaling deeply.
Gabe then walked angrily to them and Sian dropped to the floor almost losing her breath.
"All of you, come with me." Gabe said staring intently at Leah.
"She has nothing to do with it." Drake said walking closer to Gabe.
"She was just caught in the situation." Drake added in Sian's defence and Gabe paused for a while.
"The rest of you, to my office. Now!" He ordered and they sluggishly followed him. Staring at Sian on the floor, Leah spoke.
"I'm sorry." She said and walked after the principal.
Sian stood up slowly shaking in fear at the thought that she just escaped death and she started walking out towards her locker.
"Are you okay?" Drake asked about to walk after her when his eyes immediately changed to blue and he held his feet to the ground trying to stop himself. Staring at his wrist, he realized the uranium Burke had given him wasn't on his wrist again. He might have forgotten to put it on.
"Drake." Casey called fearfully staring at Jamie. She swallowed hard hoping Sian who hadn't walked that far away from them wouldn't turn back. As soon as Sian was out of sight, she started walking closer to Drake.
"You have to calm down Drake, this is not really the right time." Casey said looking around to make sure no one was around.
"Try to control yourself." Jamie added. Drake tried to hold on to the wall but he knew if he took another step, he will teleport.
"Drake! Someone is coming." Jamie said hearing the footsteps of people echoing loudly in his ears. Hearing this, he immediately teleported out of sight in a twinkle of an eye. Casey took a deep breath rubbing her face.
"It had to be done." Jamie said and Casey nodded.
"This only means there is an arrow somewhere in here. What would an arrow be doing in here?" Jamie whispered.
"That's not whats important right now. We need to find where he is." Casey said and he nodded.
Drake found himself in the restroom
and he staggered into one of the rooms and locked the door. He knew he wouldn't be able to hold himself any longer and needed something to hold him down. He relaxed on the wall as his mother's words rang in his head.
"Make sure you don't mess things up out there... Don't be such a nuisance."
The force immediately started pulling him and just as he would try to run out, he would hit the door. He groaned hitting the door countless of times, that he also started injuring himself.
Immediately the entrance door opened revealing Sian who walked in towards the sink where she started washing her face. She took a deep breath staring at herself in the mirror. Suddenly, she heard the door bang and she turned realising it was one of the restrooms. It continued banging and she shivered a little. Walking closer, she heard someone groaning in pain.
"Hello? Is someone there?" She asked but received no response. She placed her right hand on the door trying to see how to open it, only for her eyes to immediately turn gold. With this, the door unlocked from inside and opened.
"Get out of here." Drake spoke as soon as the door opened. He sat on the floor with his eyes shut, so that she wouldn't see the color of his eyes. He had a few cuts on his face and was bleeding on his hand. She rushed to him seeing this.
"What happened?" She inquired.
"I said get out of here!" He exclaimed breathing fast.
"Not until I help you first." She said helping him out of the room and laid him on the floor. She immediately knelt on the floor and started rubbing his hair inside out.
"What are you doing?" Drake asked and she smiled.
"My dad always does this to me anytime I have seizures. He says its the best therapy to calm the person and it really does help me. Maybe it can also help you." She said massaging his head. She didn't realize the torrent of energy flowing in her hand as she did this.
After some seconds, he could feel everything disappear totally. The force around him became silent and he got himself back again. He took a deep breath opening his eyes.
"You look fine now." She spoke.
"Maybe next time you wouldn't come into the girl's washroom." She added and he looked around only to realize it was actually the girl's washroom. He wasn't in his right senses to figure that out. He scoffed unbelievably. Immediately the door pushed open and they both turned only to see Casey.
"Drake?" She called rushing to him and Sian stood up.
"What did you do to him?" Casey questioned and Drake held her from talking any further.
Seeing this, Sian rolled her eyes and walked out before Drake could say any other thing.
"What happened?" Casey asked helping him up. "Did she see you?"
"Not really. She thinks I had a seizure." Drake replied.
"Still, she saw you in this state Drake. We have to make sure she doesn't get to tell anyone." She said and Drake moved away from her.
"Don't even think of it Casey."
"Why not? Your identity is at a risk. We just have to get her out of here, that's all."
"What identity? You mean the one I no longer hold?"
"Don't be ridiculous Drake, you know this is not going to last forever."
"I don't care Casey! Don't just get involved in any of this."
"And why are you suddenly so protective?" She said and he exhaled deeply.
"I don't think I want to be discussing this with you in a girls washroom." He said and walked out only to meet Jamie on the way.
"Hey, you okay?" He asked and Drake nodded staring at Sian who was already far away. He could only wonder why such therapy had an effect on him so easily, especially since it wasn't really a seizure.
Meanwhile, as Sian walked by the hallway, she paused seeing Leah walk out of Gabe's office with a man and a woman which she guessed to be her parents. Sian cruised her eyebrows watching as their bodyguards followed behind. She now began to really think Leah was from a powerful family but Leah didn't look like it.
From where Drake also stood, he also sighted them and he paused staring intently at Leah's parents.
"Why do I feel like they look familiar. Do they look familiar to you Jamie?" Drake asked.
"No, you must be mistaking." Jamie responded
Leah and her parents walked outside the school with two bodyguards following behind. Her expression was dim making it pretty obvious of the angry atmosphere. Getting to the car, the bodyguard opened the door and they all entered the car. The man sat on the driver's seat and the woman on the front seat while Leah sat on the back seat.
Lowering the window of the car, the man spoke to his bodyguard.
"Take the second car."
"Yes sir."
He immediately drove out and Leah's mother stared at Leah through the rear mirror.
"Now do you realize the gravity of the situation Leah? You almost killed somebody. You could get arrested for this." She spoke and Leah stared at her.
"But you took care of it, didn't you? I don't have to get expelled or even suspended. You even compensated Jackson's family and that of his friends. That's all you're good at, buying people off." Leah response.
"Leah! Watch your tone." Her father interrupted.
"We only want the best for you but it seems you're taking...." He said and she immediately put on her headset stopping her from hearing anything else her father said. She relaxed on the chair shutting her eyes.
School was over. Everyone trooped out of the school. Sian walked out quietly. She had a long day today and she didn't want to experience anything like that again. She could only wish she doesn't get involved with Leah again. Just as she climbed on her bike and rode out, Drake walked out hurriedly. He never got a chance to thank her, but she was already out of sight and Drake exhaled deeply. Jamie walked to him seeing this.
"Is something wrong?" Jamie asked and Drake shook his head.
"Where is Casey?" Drake inquired.
"She left earlier, she told me she had something important to take care of." Jamie said and Drake went quiet.
Sian is seen riding on her bicycle in the lonely street. She put on her earpiece feeling a sense of peace envelope her. For some reason, she felt good for helping Drake. She had never known how it felt being a hero but now she could feel it. I'm sure that's how her dad felt being her hero all her life, she thought.
"You can be good, always remember that. Being good is a choice Sian, never let anyone deprive you of that choice." Matthew's voice rang in her head and she smiled. Suddenly, she saw a girl by the side of the road staring at her intently and suspiciously. She stared at the girl with a questioned look plastered on her face but the girl didn't look away. It felt like the girl was angry at her over something which she couldn't quite understand. Still riding the bicycle, she turned away to take caution of her lane on the road when she suddenly found the girl right before her. She screamed diverting to avoid hitting the girl only to fall out of the bicycle rolling on the floor. Then it was all a mist, a black out....
