The Voice in the Darkness

I still remember that day as if it was yesterday. Carlisle had made me feel like I was on top of the world. Sadly that feeling wouldn't last for long as I encountered what lied ahead of us. As we neared the exit of the tunnel I saw a figure at the trunk of a whistleberry tree. I couldn't quite make out what it was so I continued to walk towards it to take a better look. "Stop!" Carlisle yelled in a hushed tone. I was confused as to why he stopped me but once I blinked I could clearly see that it was a man. Not just any man but the same man who had just fought my father. He seemed to be asleep or dead maybe? I wasn't quite sure.

Did that mean father had been harmed? I don't know what I would do if something happened to him. A million things had started to run through my mind and worry overtook me. That was until I felt a surge of energy run through me. In that moment it was like time had stopped and nothing mattered but the man sitting before me. It felt rather strange, but for some reason I could not stop staring at this man. Something was drawing me to him but what was it? I couldn't quite figure it out at a distance so my feet decided to move closer to him. "Where are you going M'Lady?" Carlisle asked beckoning me to come back with his right hand.

I looked back to him and raised a finger to my lips signaling that he should be quiet. His expression was painted with worry, but he trusted me to go ahead as he knew I was smarter than to put myself at risk. The closer I got to this man the more I felt myself becoming engulfed with a feeling of familiarity. I stooped down to his level in order to get a good look at his face. Something was compelling me to touch him, so I placed my palm on his cheek and rubbed it lightly with my thumb. I then saw sapphire colored flames appear in the shape of a star right where my thumb was.

They were as beautiful as the stars in the night sky. My lips became drawn to these flames and my mouth opened. These flames travelled into my mouth and it was then that something incredible happened. Images of this man flashed through my mind as quickly as lightning. "Uncle?" I whispered shakily. The man opened his eyes and met mine with a bright smile on his face "My beloved? Is it really you?" he asked. No words could explain the rush of emotions in my mind. I broke down in tears and hugged him with all my might. " I am so sorry Uncle. I do not know why or how I could have forgotten you." I spoke through my trembling cries.

Uncle held me tightly and patted my back whispering " It is alright my dear. I will explain everything so soon you will begin to understand what happened". Carlisle watched with a shocked expression on his face as Uncle helped me to stand up. He had heard when I said uncle and realized that this man was not a threat to me. My uncle studied Carlisle for a second and then spoke in shock "Helia is that you boy?!". Carlisle was obviously confused and replied "I think you might have me mistaken for someone else". Uncle smirked in amusement and retorted "I see my niece is not the only one that Elrich has led to live a lie".

Carlisle stared for minutes with what seemed like a wondering look on his face, Untill he came forward and finally asked "What do you mean by this statement?". Lord Arkas replied "You both will find out in due time but there is something I must do first. This will hurt a tad". Both of us looked at each other in confusion after hearing my uncle's last sentence. It was then that I felt something terribly sharp pierce my stomach. I looked up at Carlisle and saw that we had both been impaled by a single sword and it was uncle who held it. It was so painful that we both screamed at the top of our lungs.

However once we stopped screaming, the feeling of pain started to grow numb with a feeling of pure ecstasy. My body slowly began to weaken and my eyes followed suite. I tried my best to keep myself awake but it was no use as I could feel myself slipping away. I took one last glance at Carlisle and finally my eyes shut when I could no longer hold on.

"Where am I?" I whispered while slowly opening my eyes. I looked around only to see darkness surrounded by a wall of sapphire and golden flames. "You are dead my dear" I heard a voice speak. Where was it coming from? I saw no one else around but me. "Dead? what do you mean by dead? I cannot be dead!" I answered angrily. "Patience Hybrid, for you are not dead in terms of how mortals perceive death to be. Your uncle the demon lord sent you here so you could activate your powers" the voice retorted. "Wait what? You mean to tell me that my uncle is a demon and I have powers?" I said sarcastically bursting out laughing.

Was I going mad? I mean there is no way this voice just said what I think it did. "You saw his wings did you not hybrid? Or have you forgotten already?" the voice boomed throughout the darkness. That is right I had seen him with wings while he was fighting my father and my father had wings too. How was I just remembering this now? and why was this person or thing calling me hybrid? "What has been done to me? My memory is as dark as this room or whatever this place is and why do you keep referring to me as hybrid?" I asked in confusion. "Your memory is going to be extremely fleeting until you are reborn and it is only right that I call you hybrid. Hybrid is the term used for someone who possesses both demon and angel blood. You are the only hybrid that has been born in the past ten thousand years" the voice answered.

"I am not dreaming am I? In that case I demand you to show yourself and speak your name!" I yelled authoritatively. I was not taught to be afraid of anything and I certainly should not start being afraid now. "Uggh!..... You are just as wretched as your Uncle, but then again you are half demon. I admire your hardcore attitude but let us see if that will change once I reveal myself to you hybrid" the voice answered through gritty rasps. A flash of blue light streamed across the darkness and landed right in front of me. It was smaller than a pea at first, but then it rapidly grew bigger and bigger. It took the form of some sort of creature. This creature was gigantic bearing horns on its head, talons on its fingers and claws on its hooves. Its torso was shaped like a man and its lower extremity that of a horse's legs. The creature snarled at me, however I was not afraid.

It was quite the contrary actually because once I saw the creature's pink eyes I knew it was not someone to be afraid of. "Caliko? well I'll be damned. It is you is it not?" I spoke with a bright smile on my face. The creature looked at me confused and replied "How is this possible? You were not supposed to remember me this easily". I placed my hand on the creature's chest and whispered "How could I not remember you after everything you did for me? I had missed you so much and wondered why you chose to run away. At least that is what father said you had done, but judging by the looks of things father has been untruthful about many things".

Caliko stared at me for a while as if he was in a trance. "Hello? anyone home?" I asked while waving my hand infront of him. Caliko blinked and responded "Sorry I am just surprised that you would recognize me so easily even in this gastly form. It seems I misjudged the extent of your memories and powers. No one who has come here by death was ever able to remember someone from their past this clearly. You are truly a rarity Princess". I smiled and replied sarcastically "Oh so now I am Princess and not hybrid?". Caliko laughed loudly and enveloped me in a hug. Oh how I had missed that laugh, the laugh of the man I was once betrothed to. What had happened to him and why did father lie about him running away? I knew I had to get to the bottom of everything. It seems that father has been lying about everything he had ever told me. It became clear that Uncle was not trying to harm me but instead he was trying to help me.
