14 Orcus Requiem: Episode 1 - The First Week

[ ~ Chapter • Start ~ ]

An hour passed, and the students along with Satoru gathered together in seats.

"Yes, that is right. Our only real way out, is to go deeper." Satoru said, replying to a question one of his students asked him.

And while disbelief was painted on their faces, they ended up accepting the fact anyways.

"Because I've already done my preparations, I suppose I should train you for a week straight. You're still under prepared." He continued, standing up straight and then glancing at everyone with a half-lie prepared.

"You see, in the past few hours before you actually woke up, I explored the lower floors

and realized the monsters here are too strong for you. Those Rockmounts and kobolds are just a piece of cake than these difficulty spikes." He spoke with a knowing wink, bringing his students in a further state of disbelief.

He did promise to train and prepare them, but as he thought about it, he sternly glared towards all of them.

"Right now I'm going to begin training your bodies and minds to be able to fight against the monsters. Now here's the question, are you ready? If not you can just be sitting ducks in where you slept."

Having no actual choice, the students, with some confidence in them had stood up and declared that they were ready.

They immediately regretted it.

{ Day 1 }

Hajime, having a skill that would allow him to know what type of ore or mineral something is, was asked to search for Taur Ore and Shtar Ore while the stronger and agiler students fight off Kickmaster Rabbits.

All while Satoru merely watches then with barely any care.

"They're too quick! Cast the barriers already!" Atsushi yelled in surprise, as these rabbits with massive legs hopped around them to confuse them all.

Unlike the other monsters they have fought on the higher floors, these were easily on another level entirely. Shizuku was quick enough to equal the speed of the monsters, but due to their skills which she currently does not have, she has a hard time attacking even one.

In fact, all of the students were already threatened by the sight of these rabbits.

Kaori tried to cast her healing spell to her few injured classmates, but a rabbit kicked her chest, tripping her to the ground butt first.

"K-Kaori!" Hajime yelled, immediately moving over to her to try protecting her. Hastily, he planned to trap the rabbits one by one.

"I, I'm fine Hajime. I can still go on!" She assured him, but Hajime doesn't seem to listen as he was focused on waiting for the right time.

Immediately after he noticed one Kick master Rabbit hop, he knelt down to the floor and groped it with his two hands.

"[Transmute]!" He yelled, as one of the monsters were caught by the transmuted earth.

Seeing a chance, he took out the monster by stabbing it on it's head hard enough. After that he breathed out loud to catch his breath after pulling Kaori up.

"Thank you, Hajime." She spoke, as the boy scratched his hair with a shy smile.

"Eh, don't mind it." He replied, before glancing at his classmates.

Ryutaro tried to punch a Kickmaster Rabbit, but it only hopped and landed on his arm, prepared to kick his face, but Suzu casted a barrier spell in time to protect him.

And taking this opening eagerly, Shizuku immediately closed the distance between herself and the rabbit, accurately swinging her sword to decapitate it without causing harm to Jugo.

Endou was pretty skilled with his daggers though, as currently he was surpassing Shizuku's speed just to parry the strikes of a few Kickmaster Rabbits, before slightly skillfully cutting the necks of two simultaneously.

He thought he would look cool, but then nobody was even looking at him in the first place.

"Aw, man...." He sighed out with a light frown, before shrugging it off.

Eventually the students killed all the monsters which strangely enough, did not turn into mana crystals.

Hajime then began searching for ores and found Taur Ore and Stahl Ore, in which Satoru then hopped down from where he was watching.

"Good job, now, to mine the ores." He spoke, giving several pickaxes to the male students. "Oh, don't get me started, you're all being trained, right? Get your upper bodies in shape, follow me!"

The males began to mine the ores, before they were given a long break.

{ Day 2 }

Most of the boys rested near a cool boulder, tired from mining the Taur Ore and Stahl Ores, and a only Ryutaro was the remaining one to continue mining. The easiest for them to mine were the former, because of a hydromancer of their group cooling the Taur Ores by trying to make a new spell.

Meanwhile, Hajime was near the river, writing and drawing blueprints for a ranged weapon.

Because Taur Ores are the hardest when heated, Hajime figured out he could just make something very useful; a gun and a rifle.

Cause the truth is, due to curiosity, he wandered off despite his classmates yelling at him to return and found stones that could be used as substitute bullets.

Due to this, he immediately found mining not suitable for him and asked Satoru if he could make a useful weapon for himself and his classmates. And, seemingly knowing what he would do, the teacher allowed him.

"Holy shit dude! Does that drawing.... blueprint of your gun look like a Colt M19? And that rifle blueprint..... that seems quite similar to a M1918A2 Automatic Rifle...." Shimizu asked the moment he saw the blueprint, and immediately after that Hajime immediately became flustered.

"Also, what are you going to call it, nerd?" Then came his almost mocking remark.

".... Donner, for the pistol. And Freischutz, for the rifle." Was Hajime's reply, and then the bully only chuckled.

"And you believe you can make them with barely any flaws?" Shimizu doubted him with a light grin, expecting something else.

Hajime harrumphed, narrowing his eyes and gave his bully a confident smile.

"Yeah! No matter how many tries it would get, I'll make sure to prove that I could make it!" Hajime rebuked as confidently as he could.

"..... Yeah, we'll see about that when you give up. And what's with the change? Whatever, dude."

After Shimizu left to begin refilling his thirst and take a long rest after mining Ores, Kaori who was watching near him smiled, though knew she didn't need to intervene in his work.

Right now, it was her job to as one of the healers of the group to cure the injuries from them.

{ Day 3 }

Hajime showed progress, even with all the failed guns that Satoru recycled with his far superior ability of transmutation.

The more NEET-like person, Shimizu, was showing signs of improvement.

It could also be said that the students are quickly adapting to the monsters and through swift tactics, defeated a Talon Bear which wasn't the strongest monster that they faced.

Heck, it was way weaker than the Behemoth of the 65th floor.

Satoru immediately put his students in a hellish exercise after their noon break, which in actuality felt like a heavy exercise to them instead of just something that strains them after a short period of time.

They still had to rest after this, though.

{ Day 4 }

Nothing much happened than swift improvements on each students side.

Hajime's felt frustrated, but he did not give up yet. Donner was easier to create, but the Freischutz? It was a little more complex than the former.

His focus became stronger, and being cheered by Kaori made him feel more determined.

"Keep improving. You'll eventually get there." Satoru reassured him, before just lazily sitting around to juggle the ammunition he made.

Due to his continued usage of his transmutation skill, Hajime began to improve way more than he should have been.

{ Day 5 }

Nothing much happened, other than the students taking a very long break while Satoru reminds them of the monsters they would face in the next 10 floors.

{ Day 6 }

Nothing currently significant happened other than slight improvements from all students.

Satoru began to practice his kungfu.

{ Day 7 }

More improvements came.

Hajime was injured due to an accident by unintentionally filling up the ammunition made of Mana Conducting stones near him with mana as he transmuted the ores that would soon become a gun, and blew them up.

The resulting explosion almost blew up his torso.

Luckily, Kaori was there and immediately began to frantically heal him while Satoru helped her in keeping him away from his death.

Hajime was unconscious for hours and had to be put in bed for a long while.
