Chapter 20: A First Love

JASPER’S POV

Maybe my grin was already giving too much away, but I tilted my head and asked Adele, “Have you always been in love with this Jay guy?”

“Jasper,” Adele said, “this isn’t right for me to be talking about with you. I’m sorry. I don’t want me to make you uncomfortable with any of this.”

I shook my head and inched closer to her. I grabbed her hand in mine.

“No!” I exclaimed. “You’re not making me uncomfortable. I’m here for you. Always. I see something is bothering you and I want to work through it together. That’s what I’m supposed to be here for.”

Adele rubbed her fingers along the back of my hand and looked out at the many people dancing through the large glass windows at the back entrance to the banquet hall.
