New Beginnings

Sato woke up with a jerk, followed by heavy breathing and wiping off the sweat from his forehead.

He felt around for his phone, he did see one but it wasn't his black anime-themed SAMSUNG.

He held it in front of him in confusion as his eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness of the room,

He stood up and looked around.

"Where the heck am I?", he asked as he walked over to the table and stood in front of the medium-sized mirror hanging in front of it.

"Who am I?" he questioned, picking up his slightly messy dark hair and staring at his light blue eyes in the mirror.

He never had blue eyes, he had dark brooding eyes and he kind of envied people with blue eyes.

As he took another step forward, he felt something heavy on his head and his vision swirled...

Half an hour later he woke up again, this time with a slightly better idea of who he was and what he was doing.

"I see" he concluded.

Something weird had happened and he had been reincarnated. Not like there was any specific reason for it, at least none that he knew of or could remember.

Karl in his past life was a graduate who worked as a receptionist at a firm. He didn't particularly hate his job, he didn't particularly enjoy it either.

It was something he did to pay the bills and live a fairly decent life.

A life he ended up regretting constantly.

"If only I studied harder back in school, I would have landed a better job" was a sentence which left his lips frequently.

Not that it mattered right now anyway, studying harder couldn't have saved him from the truck which took his life. Or would it?

"Hey Haruto!", a female voice called from outside the room "How long are you going to start in there? Dinner's ready"

"Dinner" he muttered. His brain recognized the female voice as his mom's.

Funny.

He left the room and went down for dinner, having a meal of porridge with his 'mom' and 'dad'.

Slowly, numerous memories began to flood his mind.

Memories of his present life, everything that had happened right up to the time he woke up.

Four years ago, four mysterious pillars of light had shown up in the world. Along with them, portals or gateways appeared randomly throughout the world, which imploded after a specific time limit and birthed horrendous monsters and creatures which destroyed humankind and forced them into a near-primitive state.

Just when humans were on the brink of extinction, hope came.

In the form of Warriors. People who have been blessed with a supernatural gift by Fortune.

Humanity slowly fought back the beasts and reclaimed their territory leading expeditions into the portals themselves to conduct research and mine certain materials which included Vithrium, which was then processed and made into blades and arrows capable of hurting the monsters when used by a professional.

Thus unfolding a new era for humanity, one of exploration and adventure.

"Earth to Sato," his dad said knocking on the table.

Sato's thoughts came to an abrupt end.

"You need to stop drifting like that, how do you expect to cope in school like that?"

"I'm sorry"

"Don't be so hard on him dear," his mom intervened "After all he'll be joining the prestigious Ryuoken Academy tomorrow. It must be tough on him to leave home so soon."

"I understand," his father said on a conclusive note.

Sato stole a glance at his mother as he recalled slowly. He had undergone a scan test and was shown to possess Type S power, which resulted in the decision to send him to the Academy to train to become a warrior.

"Figures" he thought, he had never heard of an isekai where the protagonist had a quiet second life. The second try was always a blast.

He finished and wiped the tables before shutting himself in his room.

"Hope this is worth it," he sighed.

Well, he had some questions for whoever sent him here but he decided to see where this second life took him.
