Chapter 3

"So, this body is also called Jason. He seemed like a really good kid. And that bird, he called it a terror bird, it looked like a phorusrhacid except its feathers were the same color as the crimson rosella. Does that mean that there are dinosaurs on this planet?" Jason wondered out loud.

"Yes, there are many animals on this planet that look like dinosaurs from your home world. In fact all the planets in this dimension have monsters which is what we call all these beasts. " Jess explained.

Right after she finished talking there was a loud squeal and the barn door flew open. "THIEVES! What are you doing in my barn!" Middle aged nobleman came through the door with a saber in hand.

Jason barely had time to turn before a young girl ran out between him and the man with the saber. "Dad, don't. He is the street boy who tried to save me when I was in disguise!" The young girl screamed.

Hearing that voice Jason was shocked, turning and looking more closely this was obviously the girl who the other Jason risked everything to save. Surprisingly she was not some simple bar maiden like Jason assumed, but instead a young noble lady.

"Anna? This is the boy who saved you? How did he wind up at our March of Flames? Also how did he escape from Marquess Green and his March of Serpents?" the girls dad questioned in confusion. Jason was just glad he had finally lowered the saber, as he did not imagine it would feel good being hit by it.

"I... I do not really know?" the young girl turned to look at Jason in confusion same as her father.

"Well, maybe you would like to tell us. We would also like to learn your name. But let's go inside first so you can tell it to my wife and oldest, Joseph as well."

"Hello my name's Tabitha, and my husband name is Marquess Gerald Kovar as I am sure he failed to introduce himself." Tabitha introduced while shooting a glare that made Gerald blush. "And my daughter, is Anna-Marie, and my son is Joseph."

"Hello, I am Jason. I am an orphan so I do not have a last name. " Jason politely introduced himself in turn.

"So, how did you end up here? We are over 3,000 miles from the border with Serpents March.?.?" Joseph asked. it was obvious that he was not being mean and was genuinely curious.

"Well after saving Anna, ..." Jason began to share 'his' story.

"Hahaha, you sure got lucky. that was no farmer. If he had a pair of terror birds pulling his cart he is a delivery man for the Phoenix Academy. Terror birds are extremly rare mounts in our kingdom because we have no knowledge on how to train them. And the wild ones are terrifying because this is a high mage adept rank beast that lives in huge packs of over a thousand, on top of that they are carnivores. Mages hate dealing with them and even grand mages fear their largest packs." Joseph said.

"Yeah, you are lucky that the courier took mercy on you as he was at least a great mage so he definitely knew that you were there. I am also guessing he told you to head in this direction, right? Gerald said.

Thinking back the man did say to head this way if I wanted to survive but after already being malnourished, going that long took my life, he probably thought I'd meet someone else before getting here but I avoided everyone on the road. Jason thought.

"I guess you are right," Jason said.

So, how old are you Jason?" asked Tabitha.

" I turned thi-10 a little less than a week ago. " Jason had almost said he was 35 years old which would have made things very awkward.

"You are already 10 years old?!? I thought you were 6 or maybe 7" Anna exclaimed.

"Hush now child that is rude" Tabitha said sternly.

"But mom, I turned 10 years old five days ago and I am so much bigger plus he is a boy. "

*SMACK* "I said be quite! This boy lost his home because he protected you when if you'd dress like a lady that wouldnt have been needed. Now you are making fun of him? Malnourished children are often small for their age. With some good food and exercise he will grow, but what will it take for you to grow up?" Tabitha was both angry at her daughter's behavior and worried about what could have happened had Jason not been there.

"It is ok I know I am currently small but I will grow and become strong enough to protect myself and those I care for." Jason said with fire in his eyes.

Gerald and Tabitha shared a glance. "How about you stay here as a reward for saving our daughter. We can feed you and if you want, one of our mage guards can train you. "

"Thank you sir and ma'am. I was wondering if a qi guard could train my in weapons to?" Jason had been trained in many martial Arts and hand to hand combat durring and before his time of duty in his past life.

Sharing confused looks they nodded in acceptance but Gerald asked, " why do you want weapon training? most mages only use spells as they are far to weak to match against a qi warrior even without the use of martial skills. "

"Mages will run out of mana, and a stronger body can hold more mana. Both are a good reason to strengthen my body and learn to fight without mana." Jason quickly came up with a few excuses.

"While both are true the kingdom only provides bloodgrass to the registered nobility, and without bloodgrass the amount of strengthening that you as a mage can recieve is mediocre at best." Tabitha warned.

"That is ok. I did not even know that there was plants that could strengthen a mages body. " Jason said, once more shocked with how magical the world he lived in was.
