As Vinn reached where Callista was floating, he flapped one of his wings like he was beat drying a cloth towards Callista but she was fast enough to block the attack with her sword which sent a lot of silver sparks into the air.
Callista was careful with deflecting each attack as she didn't want any harm to happen to Ashton's body despite their banters. She made sure she was quick enough to dodge each attack Vinn made and that went on for a while making the sparks coming from their sharps weapons fall to the earth like rain.
When Callista had noticed Vinn was getting tired from attacking for a while nonstop, she pushed her leg forward at his chest before his wings could clap in self against her leg which would definitely cause a hell of horrendous scratches on the affected spot but she was fast enough to send a wavy push that was amplified with magic into Vinn's chest making him reel backwards in the air almost losing his balance.
The sudden push Callista had sent at him made him cough out black blood which was the common blood type of all halflings. He raised his head up after spewing a bit of blood and he looked at his palm to see what Callista had drawn from him.
"I always miss that one move of yours." Vinn said with a small smile carving itself on his face.
"That only means one thing, Vinn…you are still as weak as before. Any last words, brother?"
"Haha!" He laughed. "This fight is below average as nothing else aside you evading my attack has happened and you think you can finish me up so soon?"
"You talk too much for a thousand year old fool!" Callista fired at him clenching her fingers right around the grip of her sword.
"You don't have to talk to me in that manner, Callista. I know you have a weakness now and all you are about in this fight is protecting your host's body."
"You think he matters to me? I have finally found a way to fall out of his subconscious mind and come out with another body. He is just a mutt in my game and a vessel I needed so I could get out of that underworld labyrinth…you think I would waste all my chances of ascending into the heavenly realm just to be a spirit guide? You should know me better!"
Vinn yawned at her speech as he had found it none appealing to his ear and her words seemed like a well practiced movie script.
"Then have a good time running around with my babies." Vinn growled, cackling maniacally as he did. In an instant, the blades on his wings began to fall out in different positions around him as they awaited a final command from him before they spun into an attack frenzy.
With a smile on his lips, he said something into the wind and the blades dashed towards Callista in full force as they had just received the order to kill the one who was against their lord.
As the blades approached Callista, she began to swing her sword in the air in a circular motion and this subtle act began to create a holographic barrier in front of her. She watched the angry blades dash at her in a mad rush and with a single smirk curling up her lips, she created a force field barrier around herself by summoning an arcane magic from within.
A bluish light emanated around her, engulfing her into the barrier's core as she floated in the air awaiting the incoming attack like vertical rain against her. Finally, the un-alive soldiers finally reached where she was and they plunged their sharp edges into the holographic barrier she had created with her sword.
A single crack was heard with a sharp line grazing the barrier. The barrier Callista had created with her sword was barely holding the ferocious attack from reaching her and within a second, the barrier broke, shattering into a million tiny pieces as they cascaded into the earth that was below them.
Callista stretched her index and middle finger at the advancing blades that were trying to pierce through the force field barrier she had created with her arcane magic and the weapons all turned into dust in an instant. Within the next second, she began to feel weak from within as if something was seeping her elemental power out of her. The process was excruciating and as every second passed by, she felt weak to the bone and a minute close to what might be called death.
"Oh no!" She panicked as she thought of what could be happening around her that is making her arcane magic seep away from her.
Vinn's voice broke through her thoughts making her shoot her gaze at him again.
"A spirit guide like you cannot survive in this world, Callista." He laughed.
"How is that possible?" Callista managed to ask, her voice trembling a bit but she tried her best not to sound weak in the face of her bestial brother, Vinn.
"You're not human, Callista neither are you a halfling like me. Using your powers only aids the likes of me…the ones you all have tagged as demons."
"Huh?" Callista panicked as he felt she had just put herself and Ashton in danger while trying to protect them both. Her mind rushed through her own memories as he tried to recall what was said about the world they were in.
As her mind raced through memory lane, she could remember how she had walked down the corridor on that stormy day as she headed to the library notwithstanding the weather that was threatening to swallow her up.
She had gotten into the library, checked in and got herself cleaned up from the dirt that had hung on her uniform due to the unending storm. The first book she had pulled out had a map engraved on it and the first page she had flipped to shone visibly into her eyes.
"The weakness of human helpers (spirit guides): a land filled with drought and demons, damnation and endless dungeons, a valley filled with death and sin lies in an underworld called…"
"…do you not know what this place is referred to?" Vinn asked, bringing her out of her thoughts with his word again.
"Land of the barren." Callista said unconsciously as she did not know when those words slipped through her lips.
"Glad you know that!" Vinn roared flying deeper into the sky as he had planned another attack that would certain yield to both Callista and Ashton's death.
When Vinn had gotten to his desired point in the air, he spun himself above Callista and with a single clap of both wings at a time, another set of sharp blades began to fall from the sky like rain, ready to etch themselves into Ashton's skin.
Callista was slow to move as it seemed that her energy had been drained out of her and she couldn't move an inch to avoid the fast approaching incoming attack. Luckily for the blades, they locked on their target and with a wild rush, they all took different positions in their targets' body which made him recede back to the earth in full force with different blades etched all over his body.
