Fated Connection

The Lab Room was hellish and filthy. For Leon to do all this alone was such a tedious thing to do. He had to wipe down the windows and counters, wash all the glass wares like beakers, pasteur pipettes, and erlenmeyer flasks. The teachers desk was far from it's original appearance as dusts settled in together with a pile of paper works that doesn't hold any importance. He placed the papers together in a separate lateral cabinet and wiped the whiteboard which is filled with nasty drawings and some of it was not even erase-able as they used a different marker. 'Sigh. I should've asked what I need to do first before I said yes. But too late now,' Leon thought.

Leon didn't thought that it would take him almost two hours to finish Mr. Rex' request. It was already dark out. It's almost seven o'clock p.m. After finally sweeping and mopping the floor, Leon sat for a moment to gain back some of his strength.

"Still raining, huh?" It was raining hard for awhile as Leon was cleaning up the mess. He silently wished for it to stop by the time he finish cleaning but the dark skies seemed angrier than before and the rain has no clear sign of it being over anytime soon. 'The weather was fine this morning too. Geez. What bad luck. My sister even told me to go home early; she probably saw the weather forecast..' Leon thought as he scratched his head in slight frustration. Remembering his sister's words, he sent a message saying he's going home soon and explained that he didn't realize it would take too much time to finish something he was asked to do.

In the first floor, near the locker area and main entrance of the main building, there was an umbrella rack that houses all the neglected umbrellas; free to use (not really free but, the owner forgot to take it home with them), Leon decided to take one with him as he forgot his own, thinking that as long as he returns it tomorrow then there will be no problems. Leon silently thanked the person who forgot the umbrella he is currently holding.

'The sky sure was dark and angry. I think the rain would last throughout the rest of the evening,' Leon thought as he looked over at the night skies, the bright and greenery scene he saw this morning was nowhere to be seen. Replaced with ominous sounding thunderclaps and the pitter-patter of raindrops from the sky to the ground. Puddles of water formed as he walked towards the courtyard and onto the side exit of the school. The silence of the night was inaudible because of the heavy rain. Large droplets kept hitting the roof of his umbrella. Riding his bicycle home was now out of the question.

'Should I hail a taxi? I dislike the idea of getting wet and eventually catching a potential cold. My sister and I have always taken care of ourselves since we know how much hospital fees cost; costs we'd rather avoid paying, besides the fact that we can't waste our resources on something avoidable. School expenses aside, we still have the house and food expenses to think about. Thanks to my sister's frugality, we survived thus far,' Leon walked past the quadrangle and to the exit of the school as he let his thoughts free.

Passing through the silver entrance gate, the corner of Leon's eye noticed something that doesn't belong in the picture. He passed by the same place a couple of times, even during night times, enough to memorize it but he was sure that there was something wrong. Blonde? Leon looked at it for the second time and now he's certain. It was a person.

Presumably unconscious, it was lying there flat on the ground near the bushes, un-moving and drenched from all the rain. Leon's thoughts just flew out of the window. 'Is it dead?,' he thought.

Without thinking, Leon approached the figure and proceeded to nudge it. As Leon's finger made contact with it, he was struck by some kind of weird electricity. It was fast and strong but, he didn't feel any physical pain. It went through every inch of his muscle fibers and blood vessels seemingly like an invisible flexible snake - now crawling inside of him. A warm feeling embraced him from the inside out; despite the coldness of the atmosphere. Completely shaking his insides; like it was scanning through him, throughout the entirety of him, as if it was searching for his soul.

All of a sudden flashes of images; unknown peculiar images of different spectrum of colors and shades entered his mind in a second. Leon can't remember whether his eyes were opened or closed. Thoughts which are foreign to him just flashed before his very eyes. Pictures of scenery and events he did not recognize flooded his thoughts as if it was his. He even thought he was experiencing it for almost an hour but as he recovered and looked at his wristwatch, he realized that not even a minute has passed since he touched it. It was as if time slowed down for a while as he was experiencing it. He felt his surrounding come to a halt, the rain slowly fell down on the ground, every droplet felt like his world was shaken. He felt aware of his surroundings like he suddenly had an eye in the back of his head, viewing the world in a different perspective.

What was that..? Leon's head was full of questions. He stood in the same place for more than a minute in attempts to digest and understand what just happened but to no avail, he felt more clueless and anxious as time ticked down normally. The practicality of the situation demanded him to ignore it for now and just address another problem in front of his eyes. Leon hailed a taxi in the rain, and covered the girl. Leon discovered it was indeed a girl as he covered her with the coat of his school uniform and decided to take her home.
