Last Day on Earth

When I open my eyes, I found myself in my room, a simple bedroom with a bed, a table, and a closet, not much I know but it makes me happy that I don't have to sleep without a roof again. I dress and went to make breakfast. I reluctantly make fried eggs, hoping that the favor from Janus would be already cashed in. Luckily it was, seeing I didn't die.

The old man always left early in the morning so I can only see him at night, he is the last one I'll consult about all this ordeal of another parallel dimension. The first is going to be Nara, my boss at the club. Although she is my boss, I always felt like she is the type of person to hear about other's problems, well if you are close to her at least.

After a short drive, I arrived at the street the club is located. During the day, the Ballad of the Night would look just like a normal building the neon on the signs would be disabled and the frontal doors were closed. The only way to go in was through a door on the right side that went through the deposit. And at the end of the deposit is where Nara could be found.

I knew her from the old man. She being his friend's daughter, we met when we were kids. She went to college and inherited the bars from her father, Ballad of the Night being only one of them and her favorite. She had long, well-kept blonde hair. Not a surprise there, every week I and some other workers would have to go to a salon in the other side of town to grab her beauty products. She the whole affair treated as if it was a bank protection service or a serious deal between the mob. She always worried about her appearance. Fortunately, she didn't have her father's blue eyes, instead, her mother's nut-brown eyes were always something I always thought fitted her better.

Her office was a beautiful room, I'm talking of full frontal view to the inside of the club, furnished with sleek black leather cushions around a white oak coffee table. The walls were decorated with paintings she got from several auctions she participates in. Her desk, according to her, was solid mahogany that she custom made for her. And with the press of a button the mirror behind her would regress revealing refrigerated storage with the most expensive liquors, I'm talking about top-shelf stuff. Billionaire Vodka, DIVA Premium, Macallan, Glenfiddich, and much more.

"Ah! Cain, what do I owe the pleasure?" Nara was in her office looking at documents probably something I wouldn't be able to completely understand. She happily greeted me with a smile. "Come in."

"Nara, I came to ask you something."

I didn't have much time so I decided to jump straight into the conversation I wanted to have.

"Well, isn't this a surprise?" she chuckled "The Cain that is always so sure of everything came to ask me about something? I hope the world isn't ending."

"Yeah," I say a bit disheartened. "Not the world at least."

Seeing me act like this would probably worry her but There's nothing I can do.

"What happened Cain? You aren't usually like this. A little unnerving too. Need a drink?"

"Yes, please." I take up on her offer although drinking with her is a pretty bad idea even more so because is 9 in the morning. "Is not much of a question, more an advice."

"Advice? On what?"

"I'll be moving tomorrow. I wanted your advice. You went abroad didn't you?"

"Moving? Since when?" her voice getting a bit louder. "You didn't even tell me!"

"I'm telling you now. Aren't I?"

"You! Don't! Hide! Something! Like! This!" She starts slapping me in a half angered and half playful manner. "Not until the last day, at least."

"Okay, Okay. Just stop hitting me! I'm sorry."

We both then start laughing. I knew she would be of help to me. Cool my head at least.

"You wanted advice so here is mine." she took a sip from her cup and continued. "Do what makes you comfortable just made sure is legal and you'll be fine. Pay no mind to any prick that tells how you have to live"

I think hard about what she tells me. 'Do what makes you comfortable', pretty solid advice if you ask me.

We continue our conversation in her office until the afternoon. I leave pretty drunk, nothing crazy as being unable to stand but my vision was certainly a bit blurry, while Nara kept her cool all the time. That woman could probably drink pure alcohol and wouldn't get drunk.

I decide to head back to the house. There Isn't anyone there right now so I'll take a rest from the drinking and at night I'll talk with the old man.
