Volume 1 Chapter 72: The Knight Statue

When Carmilla heard the clanking sound, she instantly knew where it might be coming from, as those clanking sounds couldn't have been made by Eve, Pepper, or the two flying swords hitting each other.

*Clank Clank Clank*

Carmilla hurriedly aimed her blood bow towards the source of the clanking sound, discovering that the two statues were moving toward Eve to intercept her. Without hesitation, Carmilla fired an arrow towards one of the statues.

The arrow accurately hit the moving statue or armored figure, but just like striking a steel wall with a stick, the blood arrow shattered instantly upon contact, leaving no scratch marks or dents on its armor.

Seeing that the blood arrow failed to have any effect, not even stopping the moving statue for a second, as it simply shrugged the blood arrow off like a fly.

So Carmilla quickly realized that the blood arrows would be ineffective.

Carmilla quickly sent orders through their connection.

Carmilla urgently transmitted her message.

Carmilla: "Eve, quickly come back here now. We've learned that the two statues can come to life and pose a threat. We have the information we need to formulate a plan. Pepper, focus on delaying the flying sword."

Eve, upon receiving Carmilla's orders, quickly pushed the flying sword attacking her as far as she could before turning around and starting to run back.

Pepper, upon receiving her orders from Carmilla, continued to confuse the flying sword targeting her and Eve, despite her strong desire to confront the two moving statues. She had witnessed the futility of Carmilla's attempt to attack one of the statues, which discouraged her from taking any chances.

Pepper continued to focus on confusing the flying sword, occasionally taking shots at it to assist with the ongoing situation.

Carmilla and Pepper worked in tandem, continuously shooting at the two flying swords. They aimed to prevent the one targeting Pepper from getting too close and also to ensure that the flying sword pursuing Eve, who was running towards them, couldn't attack her from behind.

Pepper, while shooting, suddenly received a telepathic message from Carmilla.

Carmilla's telepathic message to Pepper was to transform the blood bow into a shield or sword, depending on her needs. The plan was that when Eve reached their position and pushed back the flying sword attacking her, she should exit the range of the flying sword. This way, she wouldn't need to continually return to the halfway point.

Since when Eve got near the flying sword attacking Pepper, that flying sword might suddenly attack Eve because she was getting close to it. With the other flying sword chasing her from behind, Eve might get caught in a pincer attack by the two flying swords. Pushing back the flying sword attacking Pepper will help by pushing one of the flying swords away, allowing her to focus on the remaining flying sword without the need to constantly return to the halfway point.

As Eve got closer and closer, Pepper prepared to send the flying swords far away. Fortunately, the flying sword was already heading in Pepper's direction, and by pushing it back, they avoided the risk of it redirecting toward Eve due to her proximity.

As per the plan, Pepper transformed the blood bow into a sword, blocking the flying sword. Before the flying sword could retreat, Pepper swiftly swung her blood sword with all her current strength.

Upon Pepper's swing, the flying sword flew past Eve, who was running toward their location.

Now that Pepper had dealt with the flying sword, she walked back to a safe distance, no longer within the range of the two flying swords.

As the three of them left the range of activation range of the two flying swords, the expectation was that the two flying swords would return to their initial positions. However, contrary to Pepper's initial experience, the two flying swords didn't go back.

Now that the two flying swords continued to approach the three of them, Carmilla didn't have much time to think. However, she noticed that the two statues had activated when Eve reached 75% of the cave but remained active even after Eve had moved away.

Based on their assumption, the two statues should have returned to their original positions after someone left their range, similar to the initial activation of the two flying swords.

That's when the two flying swords flew towards the hands of the two moving statues.

The two statues caught the two flying swords, and their appearance transformed. Now, each statue was wielding a sword, and their image appeared more complete, resembling a knights or a soldiers.

As the two statues continued to advance, Carmilla, Eve, and Pepper took a step backward with each step the statues took, ensuring their safety.

Eventually, the two statues passed by the halfway point, reaching the range limit of the two flying swords. The three of them got closer to the quarter point of the cave, but the statues continued to step forward. So, the three of them took a step back again. This pattern continued as the statues advanced, and every time they took a step back, the statues would follow with another step forward.

The two statues suddenly stopped, turned around, and began marching back towards their initial locations before they were activated.

The three of them watched in puzzlement as the two statues, who had been ready to fight them just moments ago, suddenly halted on their tracks and walked back. Then, they observed the two statues inserting the swords they were holding on the ground.

The movement of the two statues was so smooth that it resembled a knight sheathing its own weapon after a battle.

The three of them continued to watch the two statues closely, looking for any sudden irregularities. They were particularly puzzled by how the statues didn't deactivate when Eve left the activation range, which was set at 75% of the way into the cave. They also noted the oddity that the two swords didn't deactivate when all three of them were positioned pass at the halfway point of the cave, which was supposed to be the maximum range of the two flying swords.
