Kei looked at where his friend Chrome was pointing to.
"Ayumi Huntsman"
There in the cornermost booth of the shooting gallery, a beautiful girl with onyx hair and striking emerald eyes was preparing to shoot the arrow.
Her poise and elegance, coupled with a serene expression, made her seem older than she was, exuding a quiet confidence and an aura of sophistication that captivated everyone around her.
Her style resembled the grace and technique of Kyudo, her arrow was released with calm, deliberate focus.
"fwuuuup"
Her arrow whistled through the air hitting the bullseye of the target.
'Damn she's cool' I thought, my mouth wide open and eyes glittering. Noticing me fawning over her, Chrome spoke.
"Kei, I know you have a crush on her but yknow sometimes you need to learn to compromise"
"What does that mean" I glared at Chrome
"Nothing, nothing, stop looking so angry I'm just teasing" Chrome put his hand up while slightly grinning.
'this guy'
' even i know she's out of my league but what's wrong with having a dream, and you never know what might happen'
'On top of that she was the daughter of Liburn's only Guardian Raizo Huntsman and her family's status was greatest in the city'
Author's Note: Liburn is the city's name where they currently live
As all of this was going through my head while Chrome spoke as he was lifting up the bow
"Wanna see who gets a better score"
Normally Kei's lazy ass would refuse to put in extra effort but today was different his crush was right there.
Kei: "Ok bet"
I picked up the bow and started drawing the string back, it wasn't a compound bow so it's draw strength was weaker but I had to put in some effort because of my still exhausted body from sword practice.
I didn't pay it any mind and relaxed and took a deep breath, instructor's bow lessons came to mind.
' Take a deep breath, focus on the target, and release the arrow'
[ -Attribute (Bow Novice) is activated ]
The arrow cut through the wind and landed just shy of the bullseye by that I meant nowhere near the bullseye.
It was now Chrome's turn,
He drew his bow back and shot the arrow it roughly glided through the air and hit
Nothing,
He completely missed the target.
I placed my hands on his shoulder and said with a mocking grin
"Don't worry Chrome you'll get there one day" as I made a fist with my other hand
His astonished face was hilarious
The rest of the day was uneventful, the other classes went by in a haze history, math, science the usual stuff, i was average at these subjects and there wasn't much emphasis on them as compared to before the cataclysm where there wasn't the constant dangers of gates.
But the academic field didn't die down instead the influx of mana and monsters bought out a new wave of curiosity and desire to find out the unknown. There were many new materials from the gates, new biology form creatures and different technologies came from mana.
It's only been fifty years since the first opening of gates but humanity was slowly getting back at it's feet.
" Tomorrow is the field trip right?, did you get permission from your Gramps" Chrome asked
"Ya, no the permission was no problem, Gramps is even excited about it"
" Honestly, I would rather sit at home and relax but Gramps insisted I should get experience in the field "
Their field trip was not for picnic or anything, rather it was to accompany a combat party to a gate that will open nearby tomorrow. So that they can gain first hand experience on how pros deal with gate creatures.
"By the way how do they know that the gate will open tomorrow?" Chrome asked
"Oh that I heard the teacher say something about detecting seismic waves that are produced from mana, honestly I don't fully understand it".
After some time walking they bud farewell to each other and went towards their own homes. Kei had to prepare for tomorrow
As he was walking through the alleys of Liburn he couldn't help but glance at the colossal wall that enclosed all of Liburn like a protective barrier that kept creatures of the gate at bay, the humans still had to deal with gates opening inside of the city from time to time but, the monsters form outside were largely barred from entry.
There were multiple cities like this in the Asian continent where they were currently most of this cities were massive with truly gigantic walls surrounding them they looked more like oversized siege capitals than cities, so Liburn's wall was quite small in comparison.
Soon he reached home his house was not extravagant but it was better than most in the city as his Gramps was also a Sentinel and was in Raizo Hunter's party so he was better of than most families living here.
"I'm home"
No reply
"Gramps"
As Kei was looking around he found a little note on the table.
" Hey Kei boy, I will be out for the weekend to join Raizo's hunting expedition outside the walls, there is a pretty nasty creature lurking around that can pose a threat to Librun.
I should be back in 2-4 days, i also stocked up the fridge so make sure to eat on time"
"P.S. I'll try to sweet talk Raizo into giving you his daughter's hand—wink, wink. It's the least I can do for my grandson. But don't get your hopes up; he's a broody guy."
Kei sighed mentally and rubbed his temples
'yare yare'
He went to the fridge and grabbed a cup of instant noodles, as he was too lazy to cook up an actual meal.
After eating his totally delicious and not bland noodles which was not cheap for some reason; he went straight to bed
Tomorrow he would have the chance to see the warriors of this world in action.
