Apocalypse Academy

In the bustling corridors of a once-thriving high school, an ordinary group of students find themselves thrust into an extraordinary nightmare. As they navigate the treacherous waters of adolescence, they are suddenly faced with a cataclysmic event that will redefine their lives forever: a zombie apocalypse. Now, their once familiar hallways echo with the haunting groans of the undead, their classrooms transformed into battlegrounds of survival. With no adults to rely on and the world crumbling around them, this diverse group of students must band together, drawing strength from their differences, to defy the odds and fight for their very existence. As the days turn into weeks, and the weeks into months, the students confront not only the relentless hordes of zombies but also their own fears, doubts, and personal demons. Amidst this harsh new reality, they discover hidden skills, untapped courage, and unbreakable bonds of friendship. But the relentless threat of the undead is not their only challenge. As they scavenge for supplies, seek refuge, and search for a way to be rescued, the students encounter other survivors, some benevolent and others with dark intentions. Trust becomes a scarce commodity in this post-apocalyptic landscape, where alliances must be forged with caution and betrayal lurks around every corner. As the weight of their experiences and the horrors they endure mount, these young heroes begin to question not only the nature of the undead menace but also the very essence of their humanity. Can they hold onto compassion and morality when faced with the bleak reality of a world devoid of order and hope?

CH. 6 A way out

Alen had been counting the passing seconds, still pinning his weight on Quinn, daring not to move, he needed to know what tie it was and if it was best to make his next move, but, what would his next move be, how would he get out of this situation, Alen wondered as his gaze darted around the room, by this point it had been two hours since the plan to break into the firing range had failed.

The smoke from the fire extinguishers had cleared up and now the brutal and gruesome scene around them was on full display, the undead, circled the area like vultures, not knowing where to go.

'These things are blind, they can't see the exit in front of them, and yet their not hitting the walls on the side as well, how are they moving around?' Alen thought to himself. His gaze shifted at Emily and for a second he thought about using her as bait for an experiment.

Quinn noticed the cold look in Alen's eyes and shifted his body a bit, making sure to put in some effort but not drawing attention, Alen's attention had shifted from Emily to Quinn, but his gaze was met with one that didn't approve of what he was thinking of doing.

Suddenly, a round noise was heard just a few meters from their location, Emily quickly drew her legs closer to her chest as she made sure to take up as little space as possible, Alen and Quinn turned their heads to the noise, and they were granted the honor of seeing one of their fellow former members transform, their body was shifting aggressively on the ground as a labored and raspy breath escaped them, they looked pale and not in control of their own body in a way.

Once the turning and twisting had stopped, what remained of their friend had gotten up on its feet, its eyes, white as paper and they were missing half of its face as flesh and discolored blood oozed from the various wounds on the body, Emily's eyes widened as she saw this.

She closed her eyes as tears streamed down her face, she couldn't bring herself to watch what had become of her former friend.

"Rebecca" She called out, her voice barely above a whisper as she tried to hold everything in to not draw attention, she opened her eyes and stared at her friend, or at least what was left of her anyway.

Alen witnessing this knew Emily wouldn't be able to hold on any longer and if his counting was correct, in a few hours dusk would arrive. The weight of everything that had happened hit him at once, and his vision became blurry.

Alen jolted awake, disoriented, and confused. He didn't know when he had dozed off or how much time had passed. The only thing he knew for certain was that he had been awoken by the sound of rumbling and roaring in the distance. At first, he thought it was the undead circling the area, but as the sound grew louder, he realized it was something else entirely. A helicopter.

Alen, Quinn, and Emily watched in horror as the sound of the helicopter drew the undead in the hall towards them. The creatures, frenzied and hungry, exited the hall in a rough but calculated manner. Alen quickly realized that they knew where to go and were running in that direction. The trio remained in their positions, waiting for the sound of the undead to fade off in the distance before carefully standing up. Quinn led the way, followed by Alen and Emily, cautiously making their way toward their next destination.

As they walked through the school, Alen and the group were walking through the school when they suddenly became overwhelmed by the stench of blood and the pieces of flesh scattered everywhere. They made their way towards the only place they knew the helicopter would land, since Ronan Academy was a big school with various programs, it had an airfield where kids learned how to fly various aircraft, but there were emergency landing on various rooftops all over the school.

And Alen was willing to bet the chopper would land on one of these places, hence, the next destination was the school roof, sneaking like thieves Alen was in the center, while Quinn was upfront and Emily in the back. Quinn's built and well-toned body as well as his martial arts skill made him the perfect person to go front.

Emily was too embarrassed by her ruined underwear so she insisted on following behind the boys, as they reached the stairs they were met with a gruesome scene, dead bodies that had been so destroyed, Alen wasn't sure if these corpses would rise and start attacking as the others did, but he needed to make sure he was gone before that happened.

Quinn could see something was eating up at Alen, for whatever reason he was hesitant to go to the roof and possibly get help, to him it felt like Alen would rather stay here a bit longer than try and get to safety, he turned his head, and sure enough Alen was lost in thought again, his body almost moving on its own.

It felt like his friend was operating on auto pirate as his mind was somewhere else completely, his eyes looked lost and not at all focused as his head was staring off in the distance.

"What are you thinking Alen?" Quinn thought to himself as he noticed, despite his mind being elsewhere Alen was not tripping on any stairs as they began the climb nor were his feet making any sort of noise

The building had ten floors, each different as it contained different classes, clubs, and even a place for resting, right now they had managed to climb to the 8th floor, and so far no accidents had happened over time and they could hear the sound of the helicopter getting closer and closer, they were on a time limit.

If they wanted to make it to the helicopter rescue they needed to move fast, but they couldn't afford to make any noise and draw any unwanted attention, besides that, they also didn't want any accidents to happen along the way, the stairs were covered with blood making it more likely for one of them to slip and fall, navigating such a harsh place with these conditions was proving to be more time-consuming.

Dusk had arrived and it was getting darker, Alen was worried about the helicopter and was skeptical, to begin with, the sound of the helicopter had been heard for the past few minutes and yet it seemed like the helicopter had no plans on coming any closer to the school, the sound of the blades and the engine could be heard in the distance but that was it.

"Either the helicopter had landed on a different roof, or it doesn't plan to land at all, if this is a rescue, they plan to do it while they are still in the air, using the noise to draw the attention of the zombies, giving whoever they are trying to rescue a chance to get closer and to the roof, that means they have a specific target to rescue," Alen said to himself out loud.

Quinn was concerned about what Alen had said and desperately held on to the hope that either the military or the police would come to rescue them. He believed that the helicopter they could hear was just one of many that would come to their aid. Meanwhile, Alen got up from his semi-slouched position and walked up the stairs with confidence, thinking that the loud sound of the helicopter would have attracted all the zombies in the area. However, the scene that met his eyes made him realize that he might have been right. The zombies had jumped out of windows, and some were running towards the building next to them. On top of the building was a black chopper with a logo on it, hovering at a safe distance away from the roof. It was evident that this rescue wasn't for everyone.
