Owen was a clever man. At present, Pete was still the nominal owner of this family and these companies. It would be much better to wait for the situation with Pete to be confirmed before choosing a side, rather than making a risky move while Pete's life or death was uncertain.

If Pete recovered, Seth would follow his instructions. However, if Pete died or became a vegetable, it wouldn't be too late to align with the current illegitimate son.
