Chapter 49

It took hours, but eventually they were allowed to leave. Anthony was very anxious when they got home and he cried again with relief when they entered the house. Edward set off for the local fish and chip shop, they were all starving, and Hannah and her son sat down to talk. Where did one start to explain what had just happened?

Hannah was not expecting anything from Anthony. She would answer his questions as honestly as she could, but if he then walked away that would be fine. He was safe and he would not be like his father or grandfather and that was enough for her. If he did stay in contact that would be a marvellous bonus.

Anthony looked at her, but he did not know where to start. Hannah decided to tell him the story of her life from when she had first met Carl until now.

"He was so handsome and charming that I couldn't resist him." Her son smiled and nodded. He had obviously had the same effect on young girls.
