Kobold Chief

"Opening it" Theo mentioned as he had one hand on the boss door.

Selene nodded in response

Theo, this time, only pushed on of the doors to prevent another surprise attack. 

Whooosh!!!

And as expected a rusted dagger flew past the opened door.

"The plan is simple. I'll head straight for the boss and I'll leave the mobs to you"

Selene nods in affirmation and sprinted in first, slashing the first two closest kobold in the boss room.

The boss room was a relatively large rocky circular area with stalagmites hanging down from the ceiling, a lot of the stalagmites were glowing white and provided lighting for everything to be visible for a full blown battle.

"Explosion!!!"

Selene conjured a compressed fireball from her left unoccupied hand and threw it to the center of the room where the twenty or more kobolds crowded and defended the boss.

BOOM!!!

The explosion decimated half of the kobolds and also gave a path for Theo to sprint straight to the boss.

"Thanks Selene!"

"Cookie! Cover his back!" Selene commanded as a skeletal dog hops out of a black magic circle from the ground and follows Theo from behind.

Theo stopped in front of the two and a half meter tall Kobold, who had a gigantic battle ax as its main weapon. 

Theo felt it, The Kobold in front of him was a whole tier higher than. 

Selene on the other hand was struggling to dodge and counterattack ten kobolds that were left with Cookie. She had most of her mana to use Explosion and the rest was kept to maintain Cookie.

She was paler than a sheet of paper and her breath was ragged. She even thought that she might have overestimated herself, thinking she could deal with five Kobold knights, three regular kobolds and two Kobold mages by herself.

Selene calculated that she'll only be able to last another ten minutes before she completely collapses.

The Kobold Chief swung its axes at a blinding speed. 

Theo ducked and sprinted as low as possible and slashed one of its ankles. 

Gwar!

The Kobold chief squinted in pain and tried to kick Theo who was positioned behind him.

BANG!

Theo dodged the Kobold's chief attack with bated breath by rolling backwards, which was a grave mistake

GWAR!!!

The Kobold chief pursued Theo who rolled backwards relentlessly and started slashing and clawing at Theo like the wild beast.

Theo was slowly getting cornered and he was starting to run out of breath. 

The sheer amount of strength, stamina and speed of the kobold was way beyond Theo's level.

Fuck! I have to do-!!!!

BAM!!!!

Before Theo could even react, the Kobold Chief delivered, in a blinding speed, a kick to Theo's left

"GAH!"

Theo went flying and landed 6 meters from the Kobold Chief.

"THEO!-!" Selene screamed in horror and was scratched on the left shoulder after turning her attention away from the kobold behind her.

Theo on the other hand had his left shoulder dislocated 

This time Theo and Selene realized how bad of a predicament they were in. Their past selves were overwhelming with confidence, not realizing reality was far different from a game they once dominated in. 

The only thing the player had to do in a game was press a bunch of buttons and use their brain. There was also the fact the leeway, which was the ability to restart whenever something doesn't satisfy you. 

Theo especially was affected by this. He was overconfident and arrogant in the face of a stronger adversity and believed that he could easily defeat the Kobold Chief like how he did in game, but the results speak for themselves. 

I almost died...

Theo's body at the Adept tier was stronger than steel and had the physical abilities of a peak Adept tier, which saved him from getting his spine broken and only ending with a dislocated shoulder.

"F*ck" Theo exclaimed as he struggled to stand up

No way I'm losing to this mini-boss!

He was done playing around

"Sacrifice!!!!" Theo chanted loudly

A golden aura burst forth from his body, his eyes glinted crimson and strength started pumping through his veins in euphoria. 

"Hurry up, Dimwit! Kill that thing!" Selene complained loudly, who was battling the last four Kobold knights

"I'm on it!" Theo replied, shouting.

"Woof!" Cookie pouncing onto another kobold and ripping its neck from its body.

No more hesitations, Theo!

Theo sprinted straight to the Kobold Chief

The Kobold chief took a stance and was ready to block and counter whatever Theo had.

"HAAAH!!!!!!!"

Theo swung his sword at the ax of the Kobold Chief with everything he had

SHIIIING! BANG!!!!!

The Kobold Chief's axe broke in two and not only that a gash on his chest was made by Theo's overwhelming strike. 

"GRAAHH!!!"

The Kobold chief winced in pain and tried to strike with the headless axe Theo who was in front of him, but what Theo did surprised the Kobold Chief.

Instead of dodging, Theo simply swung hard again and met the strike of the Kobold chief.

SHING!

Plop

Theo effortlessly sliced the hand of the Kobold Chief.

The Kobold Chief winced in pain and stepped back a few times in fear.

The Kobold Chief was dumbstruck, just a moment ago it instinctively knew that it was stronger than Theo. A whole tier in fact. The person in front of it was completely different from the one he fought earlier.

Theo, was in fact, largely different from the Theo that got hit.

One single finger flick from the Kobold Chief would probably fatally injure the current Theo.

But in exchange, Theo received a strength that was slightly over the Kobold Chief. 

Theo's skill, Sacrifice, could create miracles in exchange for an equal price.

This time Theo decided to sacrifice his defensive capabilities, most of his mana, and stamina in exchange for a minute of explosive power, which rivals a tier beyond him.

Theo was a character in game who was almost unbeatable as long as the enemy was in the same tier as him, this skill was a testament to his title as one of the main protagonists that could save the world.

30 seconds remain before the skill's duration runs out.

The Kobold Chief shook in fear and slowly backed aways as Theo walked towards it. Theo relished the feeling of power flowing through his veins and sneered at the shivering Kobold chief who had an upper hand earlier.

"Theo, stop acting cool and finish it!" Selene annoyingly complained to Theo.

"No need to tell me-!" Theo sprang into action.

"GWar-!"

The Kobold chief could only go for a last ditch effort and it went for a large claw sweep with its last arm.

Theo easily dodged its clumsy attempt by ducking and sprinting towards the Kobold chief.

"HAAAAH!!"

Theo swung his sword with every ounce of strength left in his body and decapitated the Kobold chief in a swift and clean motion. It looked like a master chef effortlessly slicing through a chunk of thick meat. 

Plop

The kobold chief's head slid from its neck and plopped to the ground.

"HAH!" Selene on the other hand finally killed the last Kobold mage with the use of the last charge of her bracelet. 

"Woof!" Cookie dissipated with a final woof

"Thanks Cookie.." Selene mustered up a smile to her summon and collapsed onto the ground 

Thud

"Haah.....haaah.....Haah.... finally....." Selene heaved breaths of relief and extreme exhaustion.

Theo on the other hand had sat on the floor and was breathing heavily.

"Back.....clash.... more than.... I imagined"

Theo was slightly better off than Selene, but both were still in an invulnerable state. A couple kobold knights would probably be enough to take both of them down

"Hey.... haah.... Theo.... I'm sorry..... but.... I'm passing out....." Selene said as her eyelids flicker up and down.

Theo, who had his bearings a little better than Selene, stood up and approached her.

"Don't, there's one more thing we need to do" Theo as he crouched down close to Selene 

"Can..... we.. do it ...tomorrow?" Selene barely held on to her consciousness. 

Theo sighed and stretched his hand on her forehead.

"I'll help you out... Sacrifice" Theo muttered under his breath

A wave of exhaustion struck him again and he felt half of his already depleted stamina get sucked away towards Selene as she glowed in a slight golden hue.

"Hmmm" 

Warm....

Selene's skin became a shade healthier and The stamina given to her by Theo gave her enough strength to give her a little bit more time to still push through.

And yes, Theo can apply sacrifice to his allies as well. 

"Thanks.." Selene smiled gratefully, unusual from her usual image. 

"Your welcome" Theo replied smiling as he stood up and stretched out his hand intending to help Selene get up.

Selene grabbed his helping hand and with the momentum of standing up, she punched Theo on the gut.

"Gah" Theo clutched his stomach in pain

"F*cking take sh*t seriously next time, this is reality D*mbass" Selene spouted as she went towards the next door leading to the reward room.

"Ugh.." Theo who was slowly recovering from Selene's sucker punch groaned in irritation.

Fine.... I'll take blame this time....

After the pain subsided Theo jogged off and followed after Selene.
