77 Prepare for the worst

"Says the person who should be staying inside the elven forest rather than adventuring outside." The person name Rivelt gave a "humph" as he stood from his desk.

Once he stood up. The face of the man called Rivelt could be seen. His silver long hair that cascaded up to his back looked soft and shiny. His face that was androgynous could only be considered attractive to males and females. He looked delicate with his lean body and soft contours on his face. The trait of the elves which was their ears, or so Max thought was partly hidden by his ears and only the points could be seen peeking out. He was wearing a white robe with golden linings that accentuated the shape of his male body.

"Don't be like that. I came to introduce you to someone." Orville said with a beaming smile which was full of mischief.

"This is Maximillian Astor, also known as Max. I guess you should be familiar with his name. This is Rivelt Grandur, our number one historian in all of the elven forests. You will not find any other elf as well-informed as him. Even the old grannies living at the top of the World Tree cannot compare to his knowledge." Orville was about to continue with his speech when Rivelt stopped him.

"Stop, stop." He said as he gazed at Max. He did not have any evil intent with his stare, rather you could see the light of curiosity emanating from his bright and wise eyes. Finally, after some time, he was able to remove his gaze from Max and look at Orville.

"So this is him. Hmm." Rivelt's hand was touching his chin as though he was pondering about something.

Max was trying to understand what they were talking about. The information the two were talking about seemed to be related to him and Verdi. Something that happened in his childhood, but he could not understand the meaning behind their words as they were very vague. To this day he was not able to get information about the pact that Verdi shared with him. All he could do was stand and watch quietly as he tried to grasp any information from the two's discussion.

"Interesting. I can see why Verdi chose him." Rivelt said while he was nodding as though his conclusion was correct.

"Isn't he?" Orville added laughingly as the person they were talking about was not beside them.

Max started to furrow his brows. Max was a patient person, his mental age was not the same as his body's age. However, his patience was running thin. He did not know what the two people are talking about as this may possibly affect his future. There was no evil intent in their word. However, he wanted to know how this information might affect him as he will be staying in the elven forest for an indefinite amount of time until he finds a way to deal with the being inside him.

The two continued to talk in hushed tones as though Max was non-existent. Max could be seen with a vein bulging on his head. The vein was like a small snake, it was though any moment he could pop a vessel just from trying to control his urge to ask the two what they were talking about. But before he could explode, the two stopped talking as though on a queue and both looked at Max. Max could only look at them confusedly, though he was trying to listen to the two he was still surprised as both of them looked at him.

"So what do you think?" Orville asked.

"It's possible. I don't think Verdi made a mistake. Rather I think she did the right thing for the prosperity of the elves." Rivelt said in a serious tone.

Max could only gulp dry saliva as he heard this. This was becoming too serious. He thought he needed their help but it seems they also want something from him.

"It will be hard to convince those old ones at the top," Rivelt said, his tone loosen its strength with the mention of the old ones.

"I know, but this is what's best for the entirety of the elves. We have to convince them no matter what." Orville said with seriousness, which made Max see how important their discussion was. The usual playful and mischievous manner of Orville changed into one with a person full of dignity and authority.

"There will be a lot who will be against this…" Rivelt paused before continuing with his words.

"Especially the supremacists." Orville nodded in agreement with Rivelt's words.

Max could only shout inside as he was getting anxious. "Just tell me what's going on so I can prepare for the worst."

The two faced Max again and said, "I guess you want to know what's going on?" Orville said, his mischievous grin was once again plastered on his beautiful face.

Max wanted to punch that beautiful face once he saw that grin.
