Chapter 27 : : First Spell

Kale opened his eyes, he concentrated and could sense the three different type of energy coexisting inside his Origin Chasm.

The Origin Chasm was like a real yet illusory space, it was more like a door to another space in his body, it was big yet short at the same time, he could store 100% of all three energy inside but not more than that. All three energy were three but didn't mix or react to each other in any way.

If origin energy is taken as a parent then these three were its child, sharing the same origin.

'This Battle Qi feels similar but not the same as the Qi I used before, it's like a variant version of the Qi, maybe this is one of the reasons why people here can awaken Battle Spirit/Martial Spirit. Now the question is how much is it effective when combined with my martial arts,' Kale thought. Unlike the Martial Artists from his previous world who used to store Qi in their whole body and seal it near their stomach in later stages, the humans here had Origin Chasm.

He confirmed that Arlo wasn't here then stepped down from the bed.

Kale relaxed his muscles then after remembering the routes, he executed an attribute less martial technique.

'Illusory Phantom Walk'

The Battle Qi gushed out from his Origin Chasm and channeled in his body, he raised his foot and took his first step then second and third.

Kale turned and saw two illusory phantoms which looked exactly the same as him frozen in his steps, the last phantom looked more illusory than the second one, soon both the phantom disappeared behind him.

'It's the same, although my capabilities decreased because of my body but I can tell the effect is the same,' Kale thought, he ignored the buzzing sound from his phone, sat on the bed, and started thinking again.

He remained like that for one hour, Kale took a deep breath and finalized his decision.

'I will be a Mutant Martial Mage instead of Mutant Mage, but my main focus will be on being a Mage and the other two will be secondary support paths to increase by battle strength, I will keep the martial artist class a secret for now. Instead of focusing on Qi martial arts, this time I will focus more on cultivating my Demonic Poison Body. No, Nether Venom Body is a better choice considering my mage class.

Being a Mutant Mage would be easier but if someday I'm stuck in a life and death situation, need high battle strength and this alone cannot provide me that then? I won't make a deal with the devil again, I won't choose a shortcut that affects my far future,' Kale made his decision.

He then remembered about the spell formula, he took out the crystal plate containing the spell formula of ‹Life Sense› from his bag and observed it.

Kale didn't directly use it but observed it for 20 minutes, then he gently pressed his palm on the plate and imbued his mana inside it, the crystal plate welcomed his mana without any resistance. The lines of the magic circle were like magnets that sucked his mana and helped him remember the shape.

'This feeling…,' Kale closed his eyes and sensed the formation of the magic circle through his mana without looking, his ‹Auto-Photographic Memory› helped him remember things faster, it was almost like recording this using a video recorder.

"I get it, it's so simple, let's try it," Kale placed the plate aside, extended his hand, and visualized the image as he summoned the magic circle using his mana.

Soft and gentle energy gushed out from his Origin Chasm, traveled through his body, and ended up above his palm, under his control, it started to solidify and take shape of a magic circle.

The magic circle formed was colourless, it was like something made of hot steam.

'It's harder than I thought, the feeling is different compared to controlling Battle Qi, now wonder many hesitate to take multiple paths, regardless I can do it,' Kale focused, a few seconds passed but he failed to condense a magic circle and the spell broke.

He didn't immediately try again but started thinking, after analyzing the process and realizing his mistakes, he did it again.

But again… He failed.

'Humph, just a Mortal-Rank spell, I wonder how complicated it can be,' Kale lightly snorted and tried again.

The same process continued, trial and failure until the fourth turn, the blurry magic circle that took the shape was pale green.

'Yes, this it will succ…' Kale was excited to see his first spell work, but a sense of weakness hit him, the supply of mana got cut and the spell collapsed 'My mana is depleted? Sigh…'

Kale took out the blue ring given by Instructor Fina and wore it on his second finger of his right hand.

This time, when he ran the mana conversion art, he noticed the speed of origin energy to mana conversion was indeed twice as fast compared to before.

After one hour, he stopped cultivating and tried to cast a spell while wearing the Magic Stabilizer.

This time, as soon as he willed, a green magic circle condensed upon his palm and shined, Kale, closed his eyes and muttered 'Life Sense'.

The magic circle disappeared on activation, Kale felt like he was sitting in an empty black void, he saw, a green wave of mana expending in all direction.

As the wave passed through a place 6 meters behind him, two green blurry humanoid silhouettes appeared in the black void accept him, after the wave expended to about 10 meters it disappeared.

'Are those two Layla and Alice? So this is Life Sense,' Kale nodded to himself, he also understood that comparing Battle Qi and Mana was not a good idea, both were different and unique in their way.

Suddenly he sensed something, and an almost illusory magic circle appeared inside his Origin Chasm, it flickered for a few times then disappeared in that endless illusory void 'Hmm... This is the so-called spell mark? From what the theory books say, once my mastery of spell reaches Ethereal state, the mark will turn completely solid and I will be able to cast the spell with a thought, moreover, with enough knowledge, I can even advance it,'

Kale then took out his phone, he ignored the notifications and checked his status.

The mastery of a technique or spell is classified into four levels starting from Novice, Master, Grand Master, and Ethereal.

'It judges my master of the knife intent based on the movements and state of my body after using it, as for how it knew about the name of the spell, this was what dad meant when he said that he already prepared it for my time in the academy, the body scanner should already have data on the basic things about the academy but it didn't have any data on the martial techniques I used till now so it didn't judge their mastery or grade,' Kale made some changes in the status and filled the some of the details.

Kale just finished filling the details when he heard the sound of the door opening, and the tired-looking Arlo came in.

He summoned the last bit of his strength to walk to the bed then fell on it.

"What happened?" Kale curiously asked. Now that Arlo came in he couldn't practice the spell casting anymore, he could tell that it would be unusual for someone to master the secondary technique on the same day they received it much less casting the spell too.

"Our teacher is a muscle head… No, he is a demon, I'm telling you he is a demon," Arlo said in an exhausted tone.

Kale raised his eyebrow "Aren't Demonic Kingdoms are at odds with us? How come the Academy is having an instructor from Demon Race?"

Arlo gave him a superficial look "Bro, I don't mean demon by race but by nature, instead of taking an indoor class that damn instructor said that Martial Artists needs to focus on building muscles rather than theory, he made us run ten laps of the whole arena in the first class.

He said that those who couldn't do it would be expelled on the first day, you know 5 students are already on the verge of being expelled, they have to pass the Elimination Trial to stay in the academy,"

Kale just smiled and didn't speak, he thought 'It's ten times easier compared to the first-day training in my Red Hand Legion. If this Academy was a demonic sect then half of the students would die in the training of the first week.

Hmm… It reminds me, now that I have decided to be a hybrid martial artist, I should start cultivating my body too, no wait, I haven't taken any type of pill or drug so intense training can harm this young body. It's better to focus on the understanding of the spells and increased my mastery for now, after the three herbs I planted at home grows, I will first make Basic Nature's Nectar before starting the training,'

Kale remained quiet for a while then spoke, "Take some rest, for now, we will get to the arena in the evening I still need to pay you back,"

"Hmmm…." Arlo said then went to sleep.

Kale took a bath then rested until the evening. The lunch was ordered to the room. In the evening Kale went to Arena with Arlo and earned enough SP to pay back his loan from him.

They both were wearing masks, and luckily not many new students were present at the arena at this time.

Later, they decided to order dinner too from the room.

Next morning…

"Dude you sure? You are bunking classes just after the first day at the academy," Arlo said while looking at Kale who was calmly sitting cross-legged on his bed and meditating, he slowly opened his eyes and looked back at him.

"The Academy has no rule regarding the attendance, my secondary class teacher has already given out the first test, I will only go to class when I have doubts, if there is something important then they will send me a notification anyway," Kale said lazily.

"I know but still, sigh… Well then see you later," Arlo waved his hand then headed out of the room.

Just a few seconds after the door closed, it opened again and Layla rushed in.

"Hey, why aren't you coming too, I will get bored," Layla said.

"Bored without me? You do know that it's been just around three days since we met and we only met thrice including this time," Kale said without opening his eyes.

"Bruhh… As I thought, you are the Uncommon-Grade anti-social type, I know you more than anyone in the academy you know. Seriously, if you had told me before then we could have gone hunting together, but now it would be rude to send Alice alone, we will go hunting together tomorrow, okay?" Layla said in a demanding tone, she didn't seem to mind Kale's lazy tone, on the contrary, it felt way better than the flattery talk the other classmates had after knowing the subclass she was aiming for.

"Hmm…" Kale hummed in agreement.

"Good then it's decided, we will take Alice with us, she is a good scout. If there is any girl you know then you can ask them out, as for your roommate, he doesn't seem that bad…" Layla said.

"I'm listening," Arlo's voice came from the outside.

"Okay, bring him too, see you later then," Layla said then rushed outside.

'This lass can be annoying at times but is not bad in nature,' Kale thought then started cultivating again.
