67 The Funeral

The next morning…

----------------------------------

Levi walked out of his chamber with an expressionless gaze.

He made his way curtly dressed in plain pure white garments in the direction of the castle's main hall, where two individuals awaited him.

"How did it go, the Hera's situation?" Lancelot asked softly when the young master arrived. He was also dressed in splendid but grey garments.

"It's done, I thought you should know by now?"Levi asked with a frown

"I am sorry, young master," Lancelot replied. "I was busy with the funeral preparations late into last night and I am yet to be updated on the issue."

Levi nodded in understanding.

"They are all dead and we got the information we wanted."

He handed over the list he got from Josh to Lancelot.

Levi turned to Iris who was standing next to Lancelot and apologetically shook his head.

"I am sorry, but there was still no news on the king."

"It's Ok, I know." The princess nodded looking slightly depressed.

Levi stared at her for a few moments before placing his hand on her shoulder.

Iris looked up to see him smiling lightly at her.

"Don't worry, he is probably alright. Remember, it's the king we are talking about here."

Iris's had a look of surprise on her face seeing the empathy in his eyes.

'I didn't know you of all people possessed such emotions.' She muttered under her breathe

"Huh."

"I said thank you."

Levi nodded and smiled.

Turning to Lancelot he asked.

"Has Javi and Lady Junita moved in already?"

The schnapps production plans had been underway for a while now and had reached a critical junction. But because of the lack of facilities to house the distilling process, Lancelot proposed to lease his manor for use until a suitable distillery has been constructed.

Due to this Aden offered that the Dragoons move into the castle for the meantime since their home would be converted for use in a short while. Both he and Levi felt it would be unbefitting for Lancelot's family to be forced to live in a random inn at their expense.

"Yes, young master," Lancelot replied still reading through the list.

"How accurate is this information?" Iris asked glancing at the rough scribbles written on the smudgy sheet of parchment paper.

"Probably spot on," Levi replied blandly. "But we are still going to crosscheck it with the Church today when we meet."

The sheet of paper contained a compiled list of all individuals and households that were actively involved in the invasion and the betrayal of the royal family. It also contained additional information like vague estimates of what each participant got and how much they probably lost in the conflict.

Levi reasoned that with such information compiled with the records already retained before, Aden could gauge with his experience as duke by how much each of their possible future opponents could grow or regress and in what direction.

Although this method would be very unreliable, given Greenfields's lack of an information network and their inability to fully depend on the church it would serve as a crude guide as to what decisions that they might possibly have to make in the near future.

'Even if it's unreliable, it's at least better than nothing.' They thought.

"What about my father?" Levi asked walking towards the exit.

"He should already be at the venue for the funeral," Lancelot replied. "That reminds me we are starting to run somewhat late."

"Alright. Let's get going then." Levi replied walking away with Lancelot in tow. Iris stayed behind in the castle, given their sensitive identities both her and the queen avoided leaving the castle if they could help it.

Outside at the entrance, an open-air carriage was already waiting.

Both men entered the carriage and the driver steered them away towards the venue.

Fifteen minutes later the two arrived at the venue and alighted from the vehicle.
