Chapter 3 - Immense Magical Power!
"Let me explain," Torajirou Nangou, who was standing aside, spoke, drawing the attention of Toudou Touka and Torajirou Shiro, making both turn their heads towards him.
"The injury on Shiro is due to improper use of magic power."
"Improper use of magic power?" Both echoed in unison.
This remark also raised doubts in Torajirou Shiro and Toudou Touka, to which Torajirou Nangou nodded and continued.
"As you know, the Blazer test includes the option for magic control. Manipulating magic power is a complicated task. Mishandling it not only risks injuring others but, in the worst case, like what happened to Shiro, injuring oneself while using their abilities."
Toudou Touka immediately expressed skepticism.
"How is that possible? I've never heard of such an incident before, not even knights with F rank magic control have injured themselves just by using their special abilities during a competition."
Hearing Toudou Touka's skepticism, Torajirou Nangou nodded in agreement.
"Indeed, such an incident has never occurred from ancient times to the present. Injuring oneself merely by controlling special abilities should only be in theory."
"Then how could Shiro..." Toudou Touka was cut off mid-sentence by Torajirou Nangou.
"Because Shiro is special."
"Special?" Both echoed, puzzled.
Torajirou Shiro, who was initially listening intently to Torajirou Nangou's explanation, couldn't help but question along with Toudou Touka, even wondering if it was because he was a transmigrator.
"Yes, a Blazer's physical and manipulation abilities can grow through training, even luck can be increased through special abilities, but magic reserve is the most unique aspect."
"Is it because of fate?" Torajirou Shiro, rich in theoretical knowledge under Torajirou Nangou, guessed.
"Exactly. Magic power is intimately linked to a Blazer's fate because it represents the weight of their destiny. The fate of ordinary people is fixed and is clearly arranged from birth to death," he said, glancing at Torajirou Shiro before continuing.
"However, some people's destinies are far from ordinary. They are leaders of countries, heroes of wars, inventors changing the world. Blessed with such a heavy fate, their magic reserve is naturally bigger than most others."
After saying this, the old man sighed and continued saying.
"Shiro's situation is similar, with overwhelming magic power stronger than most but with a higher risk of losing control."
Torajirou Nangou's answer seemed to address why he was injured, but Torajirou Shiro understood he was more akin to an ordinary person than those great figures both in his current and previous life, and he noticed something Toudou Touka missed.
"Ordinary people?" He asked Torajirou Nangou.
Instead of immediately answering, Torajirou Nangou turned to Toudou Touka. "Touka, you should head back; it's getting late. I'll stay here to look after Shiro. It's not safe for you to go back alone at night. I'll have someone send you home."
This was a clear indication for Toudou Touka to leave, understanding that the next part of their conversation wasn't meant for her ears, so she promptly excused herself.
Torajirou Nangou then made a call to arrange someone to give her a ride.
Once he sensed Toudou Touka was far enough away, he continued to say to Torajirou Shiro, "The shackle of fate is very difficult to overcome, or rather, the mere thought of 'wanting to overcome fate' is wrong in itself. Fate is the absolute limit for most people."
"Fate binds people but also protects them. Trying to break free from this bond is akin to courting death, as it means challenging threats far greater than the imposed limit." Torajirou Nangou had a serious look on his face while saying this.
After hearing this, Torajirou Shiro realized something simple: escaping fate is akin to seeking death, an act no different from suicide.
"But there are still those who have transcended fate, receiving blessings from above. As a result, their magic power is no longer bound by their original destiny and can grow over time, also gaining the power of cause and effect. These individuals are known as 'Desperado/Demon.'"
"Why has the League of Mage-Knight Nations never mentioned this... Is it because of their danger?"
Torajirou Shiro stopped mid-sentence, understanding why the League of Mage-Knight Nations, a vast organization, would conceal the existence of 'Desperado/Demon.'
"Yes, exactly. To step into the realm of 'Desperado/Demon,' you first need a strong will. Then, you have to climb higher even when you've reached your limit, and to face the abyss of death without a hint of hesitation or fear, bravely moving forward."
"Moreover, they must firmly believe in their ability to transcend the bounds of fate, be it pride, defiance, bravery, or even foolishness barely describing this intense self-confidence."
Torajirou Nangou's gaze seemed to pierce through the hospital's white walls to a broader place.
"Ordinary people, even if they are aware of 'Desperado,' cannot take that step, and knowing this information only makes entering it more difficult."
"Because of self-doubt... So, old man, that's why you sent Touka away... Wait! Does that mean I can know about this because...?"
Torajirou Shiro followed Torajirou Nangou's gaze.
"You guessed it right; you're indeed 'special' because you were born a 'Desperado,' possessing much more magic power than ordinary people. And because it has been steadily growing since birth, you now have about ten times the magic power of an average person. So, it would be a miracle if you could perfectly control your magic."
Torajirou Nangou explained.
Torajirou Shiro then understood why simply summoning a Device and using magic power had resulted in such consequences.
Their guess might not be entirely correct but he has to accept this fact for now.
'Is being a Desperado like exploiting a bug in this world?'
In theory, everyone's fate is fixed, and Torajirou Shiro's fate was supposed to die in his previous life.
However, the phenomenon of 'transmigration/reincarnation' that happened to him could be considered as having already witnessed death and transcended his original destiny at the moment of arriving to this world.
Thinking this way, Torajirou Shiro's expression became subtly complex.
Supposedly, becoming a 'Desperado' in this world from the start should be a good thing, but the damn side effects were causing him a great deal of trouble.
Torajirou Shiro looked down at his chest. In fact, there was one more thing he hadn't told Torajirou Nangou.
The moment he used magic, he felt something was activated. It was now hanging on his chest, and he could feel it was a card.
His intuition told him that this card had a lot to do with his journey through this world, but after listening to Torajirou Nangou's words, he realized that it was not intuition at all.
Perhaps it would be better to call it a revelation of fate? This should be the so-called gift from above.
However, this gift made Torajirou Shiro feel a shiver down his spine instead because he was merely curious about the card's purpose, yet fate bestowed upon him this intuition.
So, he wondered, if he secretly badmouth someone in his heart, could it possibly come true?
Imagine this: you're dining at a restaurant, someone bumps into you for no reason, doesn't apologize, and walks away.
In your mind, you think, "A person without eyes," and the next moment, a bird flies near him and pecks his eyes out.
If such an ability fell into the hands of a heinous villain, they might rejoice, but Torajirou Shiro thinks that his outlook on life is at least normal.
Just because someone walks without looking back and bumps into him, he wouldn't actually want to murder them.
At most, transmigrating to this world had given him some unconventional thoughts.
Therefore, this newfound power made him worry if his dark little thoughts might actually harm someone.
But just as he pondered what to do next, Torajirou Nangou's sudden question interrupted Torajirou Shiro's thoughts.
"Have you figured out what to do next?"
