Prologue

Grey clouds amassed in the skies endless expanse. A torrent of rain struck the earth, as the air was filled with a cool mist.

A torch lit altar made of an material similar to obsidian illuminated the dark chamber. On top the of the altars' pedestal sat a large book. On either side of the altar stood a dozen guard in purple, uniform. Remaining rigid as they guarded the chamber.

Strangely the rhythmic pitter-patter of the rain stopped. Slow footsteps echoed in the corridor gradually increasing in volume. Each uniformed guard became vigilant awaiting the arrival of the sounds source.

Spears in hand, their fists clenched. There muscles tightened and coiled like steel springs ready to explode with power. Unexpectedly the footsteps disappeared as if never existing in the first place.

Along with the vanished steps the rainfall could once again be heard. The guards after a few moments of complete silence once again resumed their positions appearing prepared to accomplish their task, but unfortunately no amount of resolve could save them from what was going to occur.

A cold wind blew in from the corridor leading into the chamber. As if out of nowhere blur appeared behind the guard nearest to the chamber opening. In an instant faster than a flash of lighting the guards life was lost. Before the rest of the guard could react half of their forces had already been silenced.

The remaining half dead without an opportunity to make out the black blur that ended their existence. The blur materialized becoming a young man in his thirties with black hair and eyes wearing a dark cloak. With a scythe in his right hand and blood dripping from the tip onto the floor he slowly and confidently strode towards the altar.

Within another room of the underground facility a man with dark skin and yellow eyes stared with anticipation at a screen that displayed the image of a man whom he had been trying to kill for the past fifteen years. "Soon this nuisance will finally be exterminated."

Within the chamber just as the scythe wielding man was about to grab the item that was resting upon the altars pedestal the ground began to rumble dislodging dust from the walls cracks and crevices followed by miniature pebbles.

As the shaking got louder the young man raced to the altar and swiped the book of the pedestal, but it was too late and before he could escape into the safety of the corridor The underground chamber collapsed and the man became unconscious. Before losing awareness the man heard the cackle of laughter. Within the last moment of consciousness he realized it had all been a trap.

Buried within the ruble the man's body that had become disfigure, but grasped in his left hand was a book titled [Demonic Rebirth]. As the last breath of life left his body a single drop of blood from a gash on his palm landed on the books cover.

A crimson red glow began to cover his arm and quickly envelop the remainder of his body. A bright light became visible in an endless sea of darkness. His consciousness quickly began rushing towards the light until it became blinding.

Slowly the man's heavy eyelids began to lift. With his eyes completely open they began to shift from left to right, he could only see total darkness surrounding him. "Is this what death is?" The man was confused how could he still be conscious, certainly he'd passed away. Weirdly for some reason he could still think.

As the man continued attempting to figure out his situation he could faintly hear sobbing. Without reason the moment he heard this almost silent crying he felt his heart tighten and feel heavy. "What is this feeling? what's happening?" starting to panic the man attempted to move.

It was impossible his body felt as if lead was weighing it down, but in his attempt to move a moan escaped from his lips. The crying came to an abruptly end. "Grim" a feminine voice sounded out. Rushed footsteps could be heard as someone approached. Then came the sound of something being shifted. What followed the noise was a sliver of light illuminating the previously dark compartment.

Wondering how she new his name, Grim began to take in his surrounding using the new found light. He was within a box container of sorts lined with a velvet colored fabric, a coffin of some sort. As the small crack of light widened a face beaming with hope became visible.

A lightly wrinkled woman, but clearly still beautiful despite her age peered in from the crack. She had raven hair, pearly white teeth pure ocean blue eyes that gazed into Grim's pitch black eyes. Her eyes were red, clearly from all the tears recently shed. Lips trembling she finally uttered a sound, "Grim is it really you? Is it possible that you're still with me." unable to reply the only thing that Grim could do was rapidly blink his eyes. For some unknown reason he had the urge to call out to this woman as mother. "The heavens have smiled upon my son." the woman said with a trace of awe within her perfect grin.

Grim could no longer take the burden of being cognitive and once again fell into a deep sleep, but prior to falling asleep there was a flash of red that Grim glimpsed before slipping away into his dreams.
