Jylan found a box outside his room at night, along with a slice of cake on a plate that he almost stepped on, but he twisted his foot aside just in time. 

Then he picked up both the plate and the box and closed the door with his foot since both of his hands were already full. 

Sebastian, who was listening nervously from the other room, bit his nails as he heard the door closed. 

Hopefully, the idiot prince hadn't screwed anything up this time. 

Jylan carefully placed the dolls beside his bedside table and then curled up beneath his sheets. Then, he reached out a finger to knock gently on the wall of his room. There was a slight echo, and, a minute later, a knock in reply. Jylan wasn't sure if Sebastian could hear him through the wall, but he whispered, "Thanks, Sebastian."

He had forgotten his own birthday. 

But at least someone else hadn't.
