Chapter 1The never ending abyss

Two souls wandered the endless nothingness known as the abyss. These souls had been here for an uncountable number of years, the abyss slowly chipping away at what remained of their mind. Trying to drive them to the depths of insanity. It was only a matter of time before the abyss's goal was achieved.

Currently though the two souls were in conversation.

"Brother how long has it been since we've died?" Said a bright medium sized soul that flickered between black and yellow.

" I regret to inform you that I lost track shortly after the three millionth year Xavier." Replied a large dark grey soul three times the size of the other soul now known as Xavier.

"Well that sucks." The yellow soul said tiredly.

"I am in agreement." Said the grey soul.

"So what now? We've done all we could to keep ourselves sane, which I might add didn't work that much when we compare ourselves to the past." Xavier said with agitation.

"Hmm. I am in agreement for the most part. Though I must say that while not meeting the requirements to be considered stable, we are a good distance away from being insane." The grey soul replied.

" But at the rate we're losing ourselves it won't be long before we reach that point." The smaller soul said dejectedly.

"Sadly your right brother. Soon we'll lose our sanity, then our memories, and finally who we are in our entirety." The larger soul said numbly.

"Damn did you have to put it like that Demetrius? It's hard enough to accept the fact I'm going to go badshit by itself." Said the smaller soul with half amusement and half crippling depression.

"Ah, Sorry for my insincere nature brother.  Ever since the… hundredth? No, thousandth year in this infinite abyss of literal nothing, I've been losing the emotions I worked so hard to create in my younger years." The now named Demetrius said with irritation at his hard work going to waste.

"No I understand. You know I was there too right? I saw what kinda person you were before me, mom, and dad assisted you in mimicking and eventually creating your own emotions. It's regrettable but you losing your created emotions may actually be of help to you." Said Xavier with a sigh.

"I see. With the subtraction of certain emotions it should be theoretically  possible to endure this forever. Am I correct to assume this?" Demetrius replied.

"I believe so. I think that you should either wait for your created emotions to break down, or speed up the process to get rid of some of the hassle that comes with slowly getting rid of emotions." Xavier said.

"I...I think I'll wait. I want to relish in emotion for a little bit longer, and I want to keep the capability to care for something else besides myself and you for a longer period of time." Demetrius said laced with worry and a small but noticeable amount of sadness.

If Xavier could smile he would have. It was quite rare to see Demetrius worried. Even within a few million years he had only seen his brother like this twice. The first was when Xavier had first flickered black. Demetrius had believed the abyss was devouring him. The second happened when he started to somehow distance himself from Xavier. He was prepared to live in complete solitude, but with pure will Xavier and managed to force himself to Demetrius.

In conclusion, seeing Demetrius worry is an event that rarely happens.

"Alright then" Xavier began " I guess the only thing left to do is wait. Who knows we may just find ourselves a miracle." Ended Xavier with a small bit of enthusiasm.

Demetrius hummed audibly as a comfortable silence washed over them.

And so they waited, and waited, and waited. Countless eons went by, their time in the abyss slowly destroying the last remnants of sanity held within them.

Demetrius had reverted back to his original emotionless state. Countless years of tempering and adjusting emotions to fit the society he lived in dumped down the drain like yesterday's trash. The only positive and morally correct things that survived was his love for his family, love of children ,and his natural curiosity. But with positives came negatives.

For his love of family came his apathy for everyone else. Through love of children came the ability to trick,  deceive, and lie to anyone and about anything. Finally his natural curiosity gave birth to extraordinary cautiousness

Xavier on the other hand wasn't as bad in a sense. He became meek, scared, and easily panicked. All it took was something simple to set him off, and then he'd go into a panic attack. Though he did still retain some of his former self. Bouts of confidence and bluntness showed from time to time.

Both boys were merely shells of their past selves.

Demetrius and Xavier had tried to fight it, but in the end the abyss would win….or so they thought.

….

A light, blue in color with red highlights shined in the distance with a glorious brilliance the brothers hadn't seen since they've been alive.

If anyone else were in this situation they'd frantically try to reach the light, desperate to go anywhere but the abyss.

Demetrius and Xavier instead tried to avoid the bright light. Purposely trying to move around the blue light.

They didn't know the origin of this light nor did they care to find out. They were already in a bad situation, but it was one they'd grown used to. They didn't want to risk something new on the same level or even worse than what they'd gone through for eons.

Though their struggling was for naught.

In an instant almost as if sensing their plan, the blue light rapidly expanded and enveloped the two souls before receding back into itself and disappearing , taking the souls with it.
