A Thousand Dreams (1)

Jeffery would be lying if he said he wasn't anticipating being in contact with Evie Lake not because of her but because of her dad.

"Oh my gosh, oh my gosh OH MY GOSH!!" May screamed in a frenzy.

Jeffery narrowed his eyes as he felt his eardrums hurting but he did not say anything as it would just make things worse.

"Evie...she's gonna be in our class, why aren't you excited?" May turned to Jeffery.

"Becoming crazed and being excited are two different things, if you study the dictionary a lot you'll be aware" he answered calmly making May's lips twitch.

"Tch what a party pooper"

Jeffrey turned away, not responding to her insults.

"I advise you to make her feel welcome, we still don't know if her stay here is permanent or temporary as she might just be trying to experience the writers dimension. Okay dismissed" just as the teacher said, the bell rang indicate the close for the day.

Immediately Jeffrey opened the door he was met with Moon's oval face wearing a grinned. He was stunned for a second but immediately regained his nonchalant expression. "Please step aside"

"Tch, why can't you be a cute little brother, my little baby Sun" Moon said with the intention to agitate Jeffrey but the only reaction she got out of him was him pushing her aside and stepping in. "Okay fine, I heard that Evie Lake is coming to your school tomorrow, is it true?"

Jeffrey was a bit surprised at how news travel fast. "So?"

Moon gasped. "For reals, I thought Twinkle-Fingers was joking" she muttered but Jeffrey was still able to hear her.

'Of course, who else could it be?' he thought before he continued to his room. He was eager to see if what happened with Little-Chibi's book was just a one time thing.

After taking his bath as usual he went downstairs to eat, fortunately his mom had pre prepared food before leaving so he didn't have to prepare his own meal.

Browsing through webnovel he went to the fantasy genre to see what he could find. After a while, he made his choice after reading the synopsis.

'A Thousand Dreams by Dark-Beacon' his synopsis was a hooker and Jeffrey read it twice. The novel was just that, about the thousand dreams of a young man, each dream was a trial, and going through one meant keeping his guard up against the next. The book was a roller coaster ride as the main character was always on his toes.

After reading the synopsis and some of the reviews he started reading. The story started with the main character's death like in most reincarnation stories but a little bit different. Terrance the main character had died decisively to save his best friend's life and his noble act had earned him another chance at life, that is if he survived a thousand dreams.

Jeffrey kept reading when suddenly just like last time he was sucked in. This time he did not appear in an unknown place, he instead found himself in a cave with two young men running for their lives.

Jeffrey was able to tell the main character in an instant as the author had described him as a young man with red hair having orange tips and tied in a ponytail.

His hair was a distinctive feature of his so he was easily recognizable. His friend on the other hand had a small stature with short blonde hair.

"How much energy do you have left?" Terrance asked his friend in a rugged breath because he was running pretty quickly. Jeffery did not have to run after them as somehow he was always behind them.

"Barely enough to sustain me for another ten minutes" his friend replied somewhat sad, he was the one who proposed this dangerous adventure. Despite being weak he was relying on Terrance to get them out of trouble using his strength but it had backfired after coming across an eight-legged giant serpent that was always aiming at him. Their only saving grace was that the serpent's mobility was reduced due to not being able to use its legs properly.

"Hang in there, we'll be able to get out soon" Terrance comforted. Too bad he jinxed things as the serpent suddenly appeared behind them. It had retracted its legs by god knows how.

Terrance paled where are they going to do now? though the exit was already in sight there was no way both of them could reach it before the serpent then in the life and death moment Terrance stopped and took hold of his friend's arms before spinning around to gather up force and the next second he threw him with all his strength.

Throughout the entire thing, his friend could not react he was shocked and lay on the ground contemplating until he heard Terrance's voice. "Go I'll hold it for you, don't be stupid and waste my sacrifice Carla is waiting for you outside" Terrance kept smiling the entire time like he wasn't going to die.

He was an orphan before he was taken in by his friend's mom but unfortunately, five years later his mom passed away leaving the three of them which included him his friend, and Carla his friend's younger sister. Terrance always heard people address him as bad luck despite that his friend never treated him differently and he always felt indebted to him and so he was happy to finally be able to repay his debt.

His friend was in tears as he took one last look at Terrace before running towards the exit.

Seeing that his friend obediently listened to him, he nodded and turned to the approaching serpent. "Hey earthworm, fight me if you dare"

Although his voice oozed confidence, Jeffrey knew he was merely delaying the inevitable as not 5 minutes later he was swallowed. Jeffrey felt pain from within because reading a book and watching it were two different things and that was why most people preferred comics. Even if he was always putting on his stoic expression, he was a human as well with feelings and he was deeply touched by what the main character did.

If you want me to change the cover to Terrance you can leave your comment and don't forget to vote.
