Chapter 5 Lesson 1-7 - House of Lamentation

After following Mammon, who was grumbling, out of the academy, I noticed a lone house that looked haunted. 'Wow, is this the House of Lamentation? It looks cool and spooky, like from a supernatural horror movie!' If ghosts do exist, I won't mind seeing one, as long as it didn't try to kill me.

"...Ugh, I don't believe this. Of all the rotten luck... Why should I have to look after some human? It's insulting, that's what it is! That rotten bastard...Does he really think he can scare me into doin' whatever he wants? Just so we're clear...it's not like I can't say no to Lucifer, okay?! I only agreed to babysit you because, um... Well you know because...uh..." I couldn't find the words that I should say to Mammon as he was trying and failing at convincing me that he wasn't afraid of Lucifer.

"Anyway, it doesn't matter! Just don't go thinking that I'm scared of Lucifer or anything! Because I'm not!" Mammon glared at me, probably trying to scare me, but I knew he IS afraid of Lucifer and therefore couldn't hurt me. "Honestly, I really don't care, so you can stop repeatedly telling me how you aren't afraid of Lucifer." I gave Mammon my I-don't-care look, getting tired of him repeating himself and trying to seem braver than he is.

"WHAT?! Oh, now you're REALLY in for it...!" Mammon looked like he was going to attack me and tear me to pieces, but he stopped and looked at me with interest. "...Although, come to think of it, I'm surprised you've got the guts to talk to me like that. You're not scared? I mean, I'm a demon. You do get that, right?" I know you are a demon, and I know lots about demons and other supernatural creatures, and though a lot of it could be fictitious and superstitious, I am not afraid. "...Hmph. You're one strange human, I'll give ya that. ...Ugh, whatever. Let's move on."

Mammon continued to guide me towards the gate, which opened on its own, and the house. Mammon opened the front and we both entered, and what I saw was incredible. Inside was clean, well-lit, and furnished like a proper mansion. There were huge gargoyles at the sides of the dual staircase and paintings and portraits covering the walls as we entered the foyer.

"This is the House of Lamentation, It's one of the dorms here at RAD. Well, it's not JUST one of the dorms. It's the dorm reserved for student council members. Lucifer, Asmo, and the others take every chance they get to insult me. Callin' me scum, sayin' I'm a money-grubber and stuff...but I'm an officer on the student council, same as them. The elite of the elite, the top of the RAD social pyramid. In other words, I'm a big shot. A REAL big shot. Like, even regular big shots are impressed by what a big shot I am. So don't you go thinking that I'm just some ordinary demon. I'm nothing like those other peons walking the halls here." 'I get it, you are a powerful and elite demon! I know about all kinds of demons, especially you and your brothers!' I tried my best not to look annoyed in front of Mammon.

"By the way, Diavolo is even MORE of a big shot. He's so important that he's got his own castle. That's why he doesn't live here with us. ...Anyway, the long and short of it is that us seven brothers all live here together. Now, it's time to show you to your room..." As Mammon was about to show me to my room, I noticed a bulletin board nearby. A flyer for a part-time job caught my eye, and I started to think of how I will need money to get stuff that I will want or need in the future.

'I wonder what kind of jobs do demons do and jobs I could do here.' I wanted to get more information, but I didn't want to be left behind. I must have zoned out because Mammon started yelling at me, looking annoyed as hell. "Hey, don't just stand there with your jaw open. Hurry up, or I'm gonna leave ya behind. If there's something you wanna ask me, you'd best do it now."

"Nope. Nothing in particular." I didn't want to bother Mammon and I could always come back to the bulletin board later. "Hmph...fine then. Now, I'm gonna give you a piece of advice, so listen up. If you wanna survive even a day here in the Devildom, you'd better listen REAL close to what I'm about to say. If it ever looks like a demon is about to attack you...run away. Either that, or die." After hearing this obvious and stupid advice, I wanted to punch Mammon in the head and knock some sense into him.

"How about this? I vote for YOU to die, Mammon." A menacing aura was surrounding a male, who was standing behind Mammon. "D'ah...! Levi..." The male that supposedly wanted Mammon dead was just about as tall as Mammon, had blueish-indigo side-swept hair, orange-purple gradient eyes, skin paler than Lucifer's, and nails painted blue. 'From what Mammon just said, this must be Leviathan, the demon of envy, and a brother I haven't met yet.' Leviathan, the demon of envy, was an angel like most of his brothers, who was cast out of Heaven.

The more Leviathan stared at Mammon, the angrier he got towards Mammon and the worse the menacing aura got. 'I hope they don't start fighting, and I DEFINITELY hope I don't get caught in the middle of it if they do.' I wondered what Mammon had done to tick off his brother this much.
