Chapter 22: Is It Enough?
“Well, I need to get going,” Ben slides his phone into the pocket of his jeans. “There’s been a mishap with the dinner menu for the family reunion.”
Victor steps forward, his mouth open to say something when Layla starts speaking. “I’m on dinner duty tonight, so I need to go too.” She smiles sheepishly. “I can drive you?”
“That’d be great, thanks.” Ben flashes her a toothy grin.
Victor frowns, once again breathing in to speak when Alex starts walking backward away from them. “And I need to get in some portfolio work with night critters.” He sends a wink at Erin. “See ya!”
“See you at home, Vic,” Ben pats Victor on the shoulder before walking away with Layla.
Erin bites his lip to stifle his laughter as Victor’s look of confusion morphs into frustration. “Come on, Dicky man, you’re driving me home.”
Victor says nothing as they walk to his car, nor when they get in it. Erin takes the initiative to put his address into the GPS.
