The Laverre City Gym

The next day, I felt I was ready to face the Laverre City Gym. But first, I had to devise a strategy to defeat her. There are, unsurprisingly, a large amount of Fairy-type legendaries. And they aren't region locked, so she has a wide variety of legendaries to pick from. If I had to choose one that fit her, however, it would be Diancie. It's perfect. Moving on from that, my team has a pretty big weakness to Fairy. Four out of nine team members have a weakness to Fairy.

And no super-effective moves other than Luca's Metal Claw. And that's a pretty weak move. Welp, guess I'm gonna have to work it out as I go along. That's what I do, after all. I left the Pokemon Center and walked over to the Gym. And then I recalled. So, I hate teleporter puzzles. I could never figure them out in my past life.

This is one of those.

Great.

I walked in and went through the first teleporter. Instantly, a rush of memory flooded my brain. I remembered the exact path through. Thankfully, the first portal I went through was the right one. Then, I went directly to the upper portal of that room. Once in the next room, a trainer challenged me to a battle. I accepted as it would be good training, won, and then went into the left portal of that room.

There was another trainer, so I fought her too. And won. These fights were relatively easy as the opponents didn't have many pokemon, but still. I went through the bottom left portal of that room, and then found another battle. Easily defeating her, I went to the bottom right portal, and found, again, another battle. Jeez, these were getting annoying. Once defeating her, I went through the only other portal, and found myself standing right in front of Valerie, the Gym Leader.

"Ah, so you have made it. I've heard quite a bit about a trainer who looks just like you. Are you the one known as Black?" Valerie asked.

"Yep, that would be me. Was it the other gym leaders who talked about me?" I asked.

"Precisely! Please, before our battle, would you like to sit down for a cup of tea, and let your pokemon rest before our big battle?" She asked, kindly.

"Y'know what? Sure. That could be a really good thing," I said.

"Oh, good! Please, follow me." Behind her, a door opened out of nowhere. She walked in, and hesitantly, I followed behind her. The room I entered was relatively large, big enough for all of us to fit. There was a table in the middle of the room where a tea set was. I brought out all of my pokemon, and Valerie looked surprised.

"Oh, I didn't expect you to have this many pokemon! People are only allowed six on hand," she said.

"Not exactly. Nothing can dictate how many you have on hand, just how many you battle with. And I battle with a max of six. And this way, I can train way more pokemon at once," I said.

"Oh! That makes a lot of sense! I should probably try that. Well, let us prepare a meal for our partners!"

We made food for all of the pokemon that were out, but I could tell that Valerie was hiding something. She had brought out a Mawile, a Mr. Mime, an Aromatisse, and a Sylveon. She had to have another pokemon in the back. If not, her Mawile had a mega stone. And I didn't see one. So I assumed she had another. After we finished preparing food, we sat down at the table and began to speak.

We spoke about different things, from battle strategies to even meal preparations. It was relatively fun to just speak to Valerie. She was really nice about how she spoke. It was almost like she wanted me to lower my guard and not be ready for our battle. But of course, I wasn't falling for that.

Once we had finished the tea and all pokemon were done eating, we went back to the room where the battle would take place. I knew Hades was going to start the battle on our side, so I gripped his pokeball in my hand. But then someone came into the room.

"Miss Valerie! Your show is in twenty minutes! You need to get ready!" the person said.

"Oh, that's right! I'm so sorry, but your challenge will have to be postponed. If you come to the show, maybe the one who gets picked to have a gym battle will be you! I must go now, but think about coming!" Valerie said before leaving the room.

Well, that's just great, isn't it?

I went through the only portal in the room, the one I hadn't been through. It took me back to the entrance, so I left the gym. I had forgotten that her gym was also the site of her fashion shows. I took this as a sign that I would have to come back later. So, I went out to Route 15 to continue training, just in case. After training, battling trainers, and defeating wild pokemon, I checked my pokemon's stats.

After about 15 minutes of training, I went back to the city and went to get a spot at the fashion show. Unsurprisingly, it was already almost packed. But I found a spot, thankfully. Once the show started, I just stood in awe as the designs truly were beautiful. I couldn't even cheer as I had never seen anything like them. But eventually, Valerie herself came out and modeled her outfit. It was better than all the others combined, in my opinion. She began to walk back, but she then suddenly turned around with a microphone in her hand.

"Now, it's time for the moment you've all been waiting for! It's time for the Gym Battle!" she said. Everybody began cheering, including myself. "Now, if everyone participating in the gym challenge would please step up in front of the stage." Out of the entire crowd, only three people stepped up. Me, Serena, and that kid from Lumiose. What was his name? Oh yeah, it was Karito.

"I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 100. Whoever guesses the closest will get their battle! Say your number whenever you're ready." Valerie said.

"47!" Karito said instantly.

"48," Serena said.

I waited a second, though. I looked at Valerie and focused. I accidentally activated my eye and heard a number whispered into my ear. I realized my eye was activated and called out the number.

"96."

"And it seems we have our winner! You picked the exact number I thought of! Come on up here for your Gym Battle!" Valerie said, excitedly. I climbed onto the stage and one of the models from before came out to referee the battle.

"This battle will be a two-on-two. Only the challenger will be allowed to switch pokemon during the battle. If the challenger wins, this will count towards their record and they will have won the gym badge. Are both sides ready?" We both nodded. "Then let the battle begin!"

------------------GYM BATTLE BEGIN------------------

"Alright, Sylveon, come on out!" Valerie brought out her Sylveon, who was immediately ready to battle. Who do I start with? Well, if I don't have any type advantages except for one, I think I'll take the air.

"Hades, let's begin." I brought him out, and instantly, he took to the skies. "I'll start. Hades, use Flamethrower."

"Counter with Hyper Voice."

Hades immediately shot a beam of fire straight at Sylveon, but she yelled, using Hyper Voice to counter. It dissipated the Flamethrower with ease and hit Hades out of the air. But he quickly got back up in the air.

"Oh. I see you're quite strong. But I have resilience. Hades, use Smokescreen."

Hades roared, with black smoke coming out of his mouth, covering the battlefield.

"Now, use Air Slash."

"Use Dazzling Gleam!"

Hades swung his wing around, releasing a large amount of blades of Flying-type energy at Sylveon. Sylveon released a large amount of light from herself, but the blades moved too fast. Just as the light was released, Sylveon was hit by Air Slash, knocking her backwards and canceling out the Dazzling Gleam.

"Now, enter the smoke and use Flamethrower again."

"Use Hyper Voice again!"

Sylveon aimed a Hyper Voice right where Hades was. Or, where he was supposed to be. But he had already moved from that spot to be behind Sylveon. He shot a Flamethrower right at Sylveon, knocking her forwards.

"Wow! You really are resilient! But that won't be enough. Not today! Sylveon, use Shadow Ball!"

:"Hades, go for Wing Attack."

Sylveon quickly shot a Shadow Ball right at Hades, who's wings began to glow white. But then, they began glowing silver instead. A metallic silver. He was using Steel Wing to deal a huge amount of damage! Hades easily cut through the Shadow Ball heading for him and made contact with Sylveon, causing an explosion. And when the smoke cleared, something unexpected was seen.

Sylveon had wrapped Hades' wing in her ribbons. But Hades grabbed her, shocking Sylveon enough so that her ribbons released his wing. He then flew into the air at rapid speeds, and circled around once high enough. And in that circle, an image of the earth had appeared.

He used Seismic Toss.

Hades began flying back down to land, and once he hit, another explosion happened, which he quickly flew out of. Only to circle back with a Steel Wing, sealing Sylveon's fate. Once the smoke cleared, it was clear that Sylveon had fainted.

"Sylveon is unable to battle! Charizard wins!"

"Oh no! You bested my first pokemon! But I'll be sure to not let that happen again. Come on back, Sylveon. You did good. And since you're so strong, I think you can handle my signature pokemon! Come on out, Mawile!" She brought out her Mawile, and the first thing I noticed was the Mawilite on her necklace. I guess I had been wrong earlier.

"Hades, take a break. Son Goku, it's your turn." I brought Hades back to his pokeball and brought Son Goku out, and of course, he was immediately ready for battle.

"Oh, that's a peculiar pokemon you have there! I've never seen an Infernape with such hot flames before! This should be fun! Mawile, let's go all out from the start! Mega Evolve!"

Mawile's Mega Stone began to glow pink, and Valerie's Key Stone necklace began to glow bright white. The two lights turned into beams that connected with each other, causing Mawile to glow blue. While glowing, Mawile grew another back head, along with her pants fur(?) growing as well. She released the glow, revealing Mega Mawile.

"We've taken on megas before. We got this, Son Goku! Start with a Power-Up Punch!"

"Start things off with a Thunder Fang!"

Son Goku's fist began to glow orange with Fighting-type energy and lunged towards Mawile, who's mouths began to electrify with lightning. Son Goku punched Mawile, but she instantly turned around and bit down on his arm, jolting it with electricity. Then, she bit him again with her other mouth, launching him backwards. Once he got up, his flames grew with anger.

"Son Goku, calm down. Focus on speed, not power. Speed up."

"Mawile, use Protect."

Son Goku started running in circles around Mawile, speeding up as he ran. Eventually, he created afterimages. He had activated Double Team. Mawile put up a barrier around herself to stop the attack.

"Now, use Fire Punch on that shield of theirs. Don't let up one bit."

"Get ready!"

All of the clones' fists blazed up and they all got into a stance, ready to attack the shield with all they had. They lunged at Mawile, striking the shield, each time cracking it.

"Prepare a Metal Burst."

Mawile began to glow metallic before beginning to charge up a white ball at her mouths. Son Goku continued wailing on her Protect until eventually it was about to break. Both Valerie and I noticed this and instantly called out our moves.

"Now, use Metal Burst!"

"Don't let her! Get out of there and use Flamethrower!"

As soon as the barrier broke, Mawile shot the Metal Burst at Son Goku. But he was too fast. He easily jumped out of there and shot a Flamethrower at the Metal Burst. The two attacks clashed mid-air, and it seemed neither one was getting the upper hand. But then I saw it.

The real Son Goku was right behind Mawile, charging up his most powerful move, Focus Punch. And Valerie hadn't noticed it.

"Now, Son Goku. End this with your best move. Use Focus Punch!"

Hearing my command, Son Goku instantly fired off the punch into Mawile, launching her deep into the crowd. Son Goku's fist was steaming from the extreme power behind the punch. And of course, I had to realize what he had done to the stage. There was an expanding dent in the floorboards, surrounded by charred wood. From the crowd, someone brought Mawile back to the stage, where it was clear to everyone the results of that clash.

"Mawile is unable to battle! Infernape is the winner! Which means that the challenger, Black, wins the battle!"
