Their desperate search for safety leads them to Havenshire, a city walled by water rumored to be a sanctuary. However, they soon discover a darker truth: Havenshire is a corrupt haven, controlled by a tyrannical leader who sympathizes with the infected and believes they will be cured. Determined to reclaim Havenshire and create a true sanctuary for survivors, Celine, Shilo, Avery, and a new unlikely ally, Jacob, join forces with a charismatic leader named Sam and his resourceful crew. Together, they devise a daring plan to overthrow the corrupt Governor George and establish a real sanctuary for survivors of the virus. As they face overwhelming odds and confront the horrors within and without the walls of Havenshire, Celine must summon her inner strength and courage to not only lead the ones she's come to care for in the fight for safety, but also fight the battle that rages quietly within her. Because Celine has found love among the dead, but the question is; who will she choose?

Chapter 18: Sam's sister.

I sat on the floor against the aisle listening to the thuds of the undead dropping like flies. I had only heard the sharp thumps from the silenced gun a few times, which tells me he's mostly using a knife. My heart rate slowed with every minute I sat on the floor. My head was no longer dizzy and I couldn't smell that rotten flesh bag's breath in my nose anymore.

I stood up from the floor just as Sam rounded the corner of the aisle.

"Are you okay?" He crouched down in front of me and put both of his hands on my hips, turning my body from left to right. His brows pinched together as he focused on seeing if I had been bitten.

I pried his hands off of me. "I'm fine," my words came out in a whisper, but I took a deep breath and forced a smile. Sam was still crouching as he looked up at me. His gaze slowly trailed up my body until finally landing on mine. His eyes darkened and I felt my breath hitch in my throat at the sight of him. He looked... starved.
