Chapter 13| Carrier?

"Aurora, Wake up. Julian is gonna kill me for this,"

I was awakened by someone shaking my body gently. My eyes squinted, trying to adjust to the dim light of the unfamiliar room. Where am I?

Meredith was looking at me, worry and relief clear in her features. I got up slowly but found it hard because my head kept pounding. I raised a hand to it.

"Thank god you're awake," Meredith sighed in relief, but then she looked at me, annoyed.

"What did I do this time?" I groaned. She rolled her eyes and nonchalantly examined her nails as if looking for any dirt.

She sarcastically answered. "I don't know, maybe because my eyes just went out of its sockets when you fainted in front of me, interrupting my rather interesting storytelling,"

Remembering the past happenings before I fainted felt like a cold bucket of water being dumped on my head. I looked at her with my mouth gaping like a fish out of the water.

The door. The plant. How she brought it back to life. The moving vines. How I accidentally touched it. When she said that I have that ability too. Oh my god. I held my self from screaming. Meredith looked at me with an understanding look.

"You must have a lot of questions," she trod carefully. I waited for her to continue. I looked at her weirdly, silently calming my self down.

Meredith stood up from her chair and went to a dying rose that was placed in a vase. "I have the element of nature," she held out her hand and quietly spoke a language that I did not understand.

It was as if nostalgia hit me harder than before when the rose that was once dead, with brown wilted petals now has its original color back. That was the same thing she did when she brought the strange-looking plant back to life.

"H-How?" I gulped.

She walked back to me, but I quickly got to my feet and kept my distance from her.

"I will not hurt you, Aurora," she assured me, but I still did not come back to her. I stood my ground. She slowly sauntered to my direction, but I quickly grabbed a candle stand and held it in front of me. She stopped.

"Don't... Don't come near me," I warned her.

"Aurora, I said I will not hurt you. I promise. Just put that down, and let me explain to you all that is going on,"

For some reason, I believed her. I withdrew from my fighting stance, putting back the candle stand back to where I took it. I knew, deep inside of me, that Meredith will do nothing to hurt me. I know it.

"Y-You said something about a crystal. What is it?" I asked her. That was the question that was bugging my mind ever since I woke up.

Meredith motioned to the bed for me to sit. I did. She sat in front of me, wearing a serious but gentle expression.

Her green eyes bore into my brown ones. She was pale, probably due to the winter climate here in Kashmir. Her face had sharp features, and she always looked flushed. Again, it was probably because of the cold.

"I am an enchantress Aurora. I have the power of Nature," she opened her palms. A green glow appeared on top of it, and after a few moments, tiny leaves floated on it. There was also a slight shine to it.

She was what?! I gripped my hair. Am I imagining things? or is this real? I don't know. And worse than that, I do not want to know. It was too much to take in.

"I know this is a lot to process, but I needed to tell you right now. We need your help,"

I was confused. I was the one who was struggling to take this all in, and I was the one they asked for help? Come on.

"What?" I frowned. I am truly lost here.

"We need your help, Aurora. You are the only one that can help us. all. You are the only one that can save us from her,"

She kept talking in riddles. How can I help her? Who is she referring to? These thoughts swarmed in my head as I looked at her indifferently.

"Wha- How can I help you? Who is the one you needed help from? Who is she?" I shot those questions at her.

"Aurora... You are the other carrier of the crystal, and that means you can be the only one that can save us all from her," she told me, but not a single one of it made sense.

"The what? Who is she?" I still did not understand. It was like my brain stopped functioning.

Meredith let out an exasperated sigh. "You are the other carrier of the crystal, which means that you are the only one that can help us all. You are the one that can save us from her,"

"Who is she?"

"Her name is Freya,"

When she said that, an unknown chill came up on my spine. It was as if the name was so familiar, but I can't seem to place it. There was like a missing piece.

"Why are you so afraid of her?" I asked. What is so special about this chick anyway?

"Aurora, she is the other carrier of the crystal," Meredith replied. It seemed that she was really frightened of this Freya because she was trembling on her seat.

"What is the crystal?"

No offense, but how can I help them when I don't even know what the crystal is. Is it my necklace? or was it a piece of jewelry that was given to me? Meredith shifted on her seat.

"The crystal is were our powers come from. It consists of four elements. Fire, Wind, Nature, and Water. This all belongs to the crystal. There were three of them, but as of now, we only know two of the carriers,"

"Why can't you defeat her yourself? I mean. You must have enough powers to defeat her, right?"

She shook her head. "That is not how it works, Aurora. If you are a carrier of the crystal, you have access to the four, you have the four elements on the tips of your fingers. You can use them together or separately, you name it,"

"However, I am not a carrier, so I only have one element, and that is nature. It is why we need your help," Meredith continued.

A brilliant idea came to my mind. I smiled at her. "What if you and the three others meet up and decide to defeat her instead?"

"As easy as that sounds, it is impossible. We already tried that, but it did not work. Someone died,"

My smile dropped. Oh. So Freya is really powerful then. But the question is, How? If the four elements had already worked together to defeat this chick, then why did they fail?

If Freya has access to the four elements and the other four worked together, they must have beat her. But why were they defeated?

I stood up and paced, my purple gown swishing with me. I kept biting my nails. It was a habit of mine whenever I think hard.

"Meredith?" I turned to her. She faced me.

"Hmmm?"

"If Freya has access to those four elements, then you must have worked together with the others, right? But how were you defeated? I mean, I think Freya with the four of you are all equal,"

"As I said, someone died,"

"Who?"

"The fourth element, Water." she looked at me with teary eyes. I rushed to her side to console her. She sniffled, letting a single tear drop, but she stopped her self from crying completely.

"She also has one more element that the rest of us don't,"

"What element?"

What she said next made my heart drop and goosebumps appear on my skin.

"Death,"
