CHAPTER 5 - TERRIFYING AURA

" Mother ... I. I went out for a walk ... around the house" Lucian stuttered

'Wow, you sound sooo.. convincing, ' The voice in his head said sarcastically while chuckling. Lucian ignored it while he looked in the direction of his mother. He had sensed no agitation in his mother's soul, so he knew she wasn't angry. His mother's soul looked different from other human souls.

The white orb in the middle of her life force, looked like it had been tainted with some redness, that looked a bit like his soul. His soul was entirely deep red, which proved he was not like the others, he wasn't human. The voice in his head had told him that several times. And he believes his mother got that taint from him

"went out for a walk? where? In the forest again?"

Anna asked still frowning. Lucian dropped his head, he was not good at telling lies at all. The reason he had gone out, was because Raphael, the voice in his head had sensed a terrifying red aura in the forest close by. Due to that, it caused a fluctuation in the life forces in the air. The life force according to Raphael was what fed and maintained the souls of every living being. Because the people here were mere humans, none knew about this except his grandmother. Yes, Lucian's grandmother Elizabeth, whom Anna called Aunt Liz, the very middle-aged woman who helped Anna deliver Lucian, knew so much that ordinary humans should not know.

Her knowledge of the unknown was what helped Lucian to comprehend a little about who he was until age 5 when the voice suddenly appeared in his head introducing himself as Raphael and one of his kind. Raphael since then has been Lucian's companion, although he could be annoying sometimes, he made Lucian feel less lonely and less of a freak.

"Alright come and have your lunch, we'll talk about this outing of yours later," Anna said realizing her son was short of words.

Lucian finally released a breath of relief. Besides he was really hungry. He rushed into the cottage and sat behind the small dining table they had inside. His mother went to the kitchen and fetched some of the rice she had prepared, and placed it in front of Lucian on the dining table. She fetched herself some and sat opposite Lucian.

Just as Lucian dug into his food, there was a knock on the wooden door. Lucian already knew who it was. He had sensed his aura a while ago even before he got to the door. That was how well Lucian's senses were growing.

"Lucian, go and check who's at the door," Anna said squinting her eyes in the direction of the knocking sound.

"It's Nate" Lucian said flatly. He didn't want to stop eating to open the door for the most annoying friend in his life.
