CHAPTER 11 - COMFORTING WEAPON

In the cottage, Anna was woken up by screams from the room next to hers. It was the little storeroom that had been turned into a room for Lucian.

And she knew what was going on in there. It wasn't the first time she got woken up in the middle of the night that way. So, out of fear, she rushed straight into the room.

In the room, Lucian was sprawled out on his bed and gnashing his teeth, his fingers clutching tightly unto the faded blue bedsheet. He was sweating profusely and he looked so much in pain. Anna's heart broke seeing him in that state. Looks like whatever he had been struggling with, was getting worse. She didn't know what it was, and Lucian never wanted to talk about it.

At that moment she didn't know what to do. She so badly wished she could switch places with her son and bear all his pain.

Just then Lucian screamed and held his head tightly. His nails began to elongate and they started to dig straight into his head.

Anna's eyes widened. Lucian was going to harm himself. Without reasoning, she rushed toward him and began pulling his hand away from his head. But Lucian was too strong, so, with no choice left, she forced her arms through Lucian's hands and covered his head bringing his head close to her chest.

As he couldn't get access to his head, his fingers dug into Anna's arms causing blood to flow from them. Anna didn't seem to notice the pain at all. She was so engrossed in comforting her son.

" Mother is right here, you need to fight it. Whatever it is, you can fight it. You're stronger, I've always known that you're special. I may not know the source, but I know that whatever is in you is not cut out for the worst."

While her wound kept going deeper, she went on with her words.

"No matter what, you brought me laughter and joy, and that is who you are," she said while sobbing.

Deep in the whirlpool, the boy's hand holding tightly unto Lucian's head, loosened a bit. Somehow, that soothing voice seems to calm him down.

'Lucian you're hurting your mother, she's bleeding and she won't let go of you until you calm down.'

Raphael said seemingly worried.

Suddenly the boy let go of Lucian's head. There was a frown on his face and he look somehow hurt. That look was exactly what Lucian had on too. Although Lucian felt empty when the boy let go of his head, he couldn't care less at that moment, he had hurt his mother... That was all he could think about. Looking at his doppelganger, Lucian spoke, his voice full of remorse. " Not today... I can't let you in, at least not yet. "

The boy looked at Lucian, almost as if he could feel his pain, and he vanished.

Just then Lucian woke up, his nails had retracted, but they were stained with blood. His mother's blood. He felt guilty.

"Mother... I...didn't mean it...I.. you're hurt.. "

Lucian spoke as tears trailed down his eyes. He felt like a monster.

"Shhh... Mother is fine. It's just a... " Her words got stuck in her mouth when she looked at the wound that was bleeding from a while ago. It was healing, though it wasn't fast, the blood had stopped flowing. And the pain she was feeling a while ago had lesson drastically.

She was healing just like that???...

Lucian was also shocked, but he was instantly glad. His mother was fine. But how?? ... if it was him, it would've been fine. He had gotten wounded several times, and all of which, he had healed in a super fast way, leaving no scar. But his mother.....

' Remember how you said your mother's soul looked like? Your blood must have fused with hers when she carried you in her womb. That must have caused the healing. You were so close to losing it, you know... Your mother is your comforting weapon. She saved the world today.' Raphael said, and let out a sigh of relief. He intermediated between Lucian and his beast. That was why it hadn't fused with him this long. But it looks like he might not be able to hold it back for long. The beast was getting stronger.

After wiping out the blood, and realizing she was fine, she didn't want to leave Lucian alone. Without saying anything. She held him to sleep. Initially, Lucian felt so scared to close his eyes. He thought those things might happen again but Anna kept assuring him that everything was fine, and he gradually fell asleep.

Lucian woke up late and realized his mum was already up. Remembering what happened that night, he rushed out of his room to see his mother busy setting their breakfast on the table. He walked up to her and held her hands to have a look at them. He wanted to see if she was fine.

Anna smiled, looking at the worried expression on Lucian's face.

"Am fine... See...there's not a single scar" Anna said pointing to the spot where his nails had dug into. She didn't want her son to remain guilt-tripped. What happened was not his fault.

Seeing that she was fine, Lucian looked up with fear written clearly in his eyes.

" Mother! Next time, you must stay away from me. I won't hurt you that way "
