Chapter 14: Welcome John vs Ezra!

The students fell silent as the ceremony began. The teachers were silent on stage as well. One of the teachers brought Jack a microphone and then lined up with the teachers. Jack looked serious and intimidating as he spoke.

"I would welcome you all to this school but those words will be wasted on you all. You may have gotten in, but you have not earned your spot among us. Our rules are different. If you can't live up to my or the teacher's standards you will be kicked out. Besides, if you can't, you may end up dead." Jack said this but it didn't surprise anyone. This was a school in name but it was more like a military. Students had to have permission to attend and sign a consent form in case they died. If you graduate, it sets you up to attain money, power, and fame. In this new era where society is reduced to a fraction of land due to these mutated beasts overwhelming the world. Where more people are in poverty. This was the chance for people to help their families and themselves. Even though most kids won't make it to the end or will get kicked out for not living up to the expectations of teachers.

"For now, rest and do what you like. Tomorrow it starts. If you're not ready I suggest you start," Jack said. He slowly walked off the stage and the teachers began to look like they were planning to kill the students as he left. The teacher in the middle stepped forward a bit.

"This is going to be a Pass or Fail test. You all have one week to learn how to fully utilize your magic or you will be kicked out. You have to be able to meet our standards," the teacher said as he left with the other teachers. Some students started worrying as they didn't quite understand what he meant.

"About half the people are going to fail," Ezra said looking at the stage where the teachers once stood.

"What do you mean?" Aria asked.

"A lot of people think that magic can only be used for spells. Magic is life energy. It's within everything and comes from everything. So magic can be used in different ways. They are talking about using magic to strengthen your body." Ezra knew a lot about this because he was skilled at this sort of thing.

"Ezra demonstrate it to me would you?" John asked. Ezra looked at John. John's fierce eyes started turning colors. His demon eyes were now on full display. Jade's eyes widened. She didn't know John was a demon.

"You want to fight?" Ezra said as the air around him seemed to be more fierce as well. John shook his head. The other backed a significant distance away.

Ezra had way more magic than John. John was also still a black core so they were on two different levels. Ezra and John were getting ready to fight. Students and teachers were already absent. Some students left to practice while others just decided to enjoy the day off. Ezra started the fight first. It was almost as if Ezra had disappeared. He hit John on his right side sending him on the defensive. John used his gravity magic to send Ezra to the ground as soon as his punch landed. Ezra lifted his right hand towards John and a dark purple mist gathered around his hand. It formed a ball and shot straight at John. It was slow so John was able to dodge it. As John looked back he could no longer see Ezra there. His senses were screaming at him, telling him to duck. John ducked at just the right time. Ezra was behind him sending a punch to his head. Although John managed to avoid it Ezra was fast. Ezra kicked John sending him to the ground. John rolled away and got up. John was breathing hard and Ezra had not even broken a sweat. Just as John was about to make a move he felt something touch his back. He looked back and saw a black ball.

"Dark chains," Ezra said as the ball started forming chains and wrapping around John's arms and legs. The next second Ezra was in front of John.

"You done?" Ezra asked. John didn't want to lose. Originally he just wanted to see how effective using magic on your body could be. Now he just desired to win. John's hands burst into black flames. Ezra retreated a few feet almost immediately. The black chains that held John started to fade away. It looked more like they were melting away.

"I'm far from done," John said as his voice became deeper and more demonic.

'I can't hold back' Ezra thought as his mana erupted. Ezra's magic was usually employed to trap opponents or kill them instantly. Ezra used his magic to cover his body with a dark and purple mist-like substance. He used his magic to enhance his body even further than what he was doing before. When Ezra ran straight at John, the cement cracked a bit. Alex, Aria, and Jade couldn't believe it. In the blink of an eye, John fell flat on the ground. Ezra knocked him out. Ezra was also on the ground breathing heavily now. He used a lot of his magic to stop the flames from getting to him. John's flames burned through his magic really fast since he was relying on it to protect himself from the flames. The others ran up to the two of them before they got there though Ezra passed out because he was too tired to stay awake.

"Hurry we need to get the two of them to the nurse's office!" Aria yelled. Alex thought she was being overdramatic until he saw John's hands. They were burned pretty severely. It looked super painful. So the three of them quickly took Ezra and John to the nurse's office.
