[IN THE FISHERS PACK]
"Cecil, there is no room for maybes, get her here, now!" Chief Ayn seethed.
"Mom, Jeez! Okay." Cecil answered.
Chief Ayn rubbed her hands over her face and mumbled an apology to her daughter. Of course, it wasn't her fault, she left her work and headed to Marina's as soon as her mother informed her of the news.
"Mom, I am…" Cecil stopped.
"Xena, Xena. Fuck!" Chief Ayn cursed and brushed off the wolves that stared at her. "It is Xena, get here Cecil before I follow Fisher." She spoke on the phone.
"Mom, no need to be overdramatic, tame her."
Gaping at the phone, Chief Ayn couldn't help but cuss inwardly at herself, there she was talking to her daughter like that when she knew how Marina behaved. It wasn't something new, handling Marina wasn't one plus one.
Chief Ayn ran after her daughter who seemed to have gotten superpowers, she was running so fast, if the pack wasn't mourning, she would have screamed at her to slow down. She bumped into someone, looked up for a split second, mumbled a sorry, and continued sprinting.
Xena wouldn't have stopped even if anyone asked her to, she heard the boats from the Mountain Pack had arrived and from that she knew one thing, Rinzler would also be there. Xena adored Rinzler, lucky enough it was requited.
Halting, Xena squinted. As if she couldn't see properly, she rubbed her eyes with her hands. She looked up when she felt a hand on her shoulder, finally, Chief Ayn caught up with her. She mumbled to her mother, "mom, where is he?"
Rinzler wasn't in the boat. Chief Ayn waved at the wolves getting down from the boat and then stood in front of her daughter. Stooping low, she cupped her daughter's face with her hands, "please, don't cry." She spoke. Noticeably, Xena was on the verge of crying.
"But Rinzler." She said, her voice croaked.
"Come. Let us check on Luna Audra." Chief Ayn picked her up. "Rinzler will come and when he does, you will be the first one to know." Chief Ayn added. Xena huffed.
Chief Ayn walked back to the packhouse and headed straight to Luna Audra's chamber. She found the woman at the corner, in a fetal position. She lowered Xena onto the accent chair in the bedroom, and stared deeply into the little girl's eyes, with no words, she turned around and went to Luna Audra.
Luna Audra glanced at Chief Ayn; her eyes red from all the crying she has done throughout the day. Without even asking, Chief Ayn whispered, "she will be here soon." She sat on the floor and added, "come here."
Chief Ayn glanced at her daughter and found her snuggled on the pillow, she nodded approvingly at her, happy that she hadn't made another sound. She didn't have the luxury of talking to the child, her friend needed her the most.
Chief Ayn's mind was blank, words escaped as soon as she saw the one woman, she thought was the strongest and the bravest in the entire world curled up in a corner, scared, whimpering sounds escaping her lips.
Unlike the other human in the Lake who referred to the Fishers Pack as simply 'Mariville', Chief Ayn and her family knew about the Fishers Pack, the Mountain Pack, and everything that entailed the wolves. She knew of this way before she became the leader.
Instantly she met Luna Audra, they clicked, and ever since, they have been friends. Moreover, the more she knew of Luna Audra, the better she comprehended that they were similar.
Following her father's footsteps, Chief Ayn made sure to cover up for the wolves' howls with some lame excuses she sure as hell were stupid. Fortunately, the humans didn't get to question deeply, what their leader said, it goes.
She protected the two packs, making sure whenever the tourists came, they didn't venture closer into the Mountain Pack or the Fishers Pack.
With the knowledge of the different types of bonds, Chief Ayn didn't want to think of how her friend felt at the moment, she felt bad for her. It was painful to lose someone you adore dearly.
"Mama. I want to sleep." Xena mumbled softly.
Hearing the soft voice from Xena, Luna Audra patted on her lap, Xena's little feet carried her towards them, she sat on the floor and placed her head on Luna's lap. She said softly to her, "I am sorry."
Luna Audra's lips twitched, "it is not your fault, love."
Xena moved up slowly and wiped away a tear that has fallen on Luna Audra's face. "You are too kind." Luna Audra commented sweetly. Grinning, Xena let her hand fall on her side, and fell asleep.
Chief Ayn's phone rang, making Luna Audra jolt thinking it was hers. Gently, she propped Xena's head to her mother's lap and headed to get the ringing phone. Thinking it was hers, she rummaged at the heap of clothes on her bed.
Uncertain, Chief Ayn silenced her phone. She watched as her friend searched for the phone.
The phone rang again, waking Xena. Xena jeered her head towards her mother's pocket. "Your phone, moma."
She placed her finger on her lips, her eyes asking Xena to keep quiet. Chief Ayn dunged her hand into the pocket and got it out. It was Cecil. "Yes, Cecil?"
"Marina…"
In a swift motion, Luna Audra took the phone from Chief Ayn and called out, "Marina, I…"
Clack!
The phone slipped out of her hand; Luna Audra's knees gave out as she fell to the ground screaming.
