Chapter 70 Her Broken Mate

"You'd better sit down, Sarah," Ryan said, making himself comfortable in her chair.

She swore his butt better not fart in it. But that was the least of her worries.

Seth had retired to his room to rest after being brutally attacked by his own mother. The bitch is in her cell. Currently, Ryan and her are in her room discussing important matters.

"I'd rather stand. Do not mind me and move on."

Ryan shrugged his shoulders and exhaled evenly. "I'll try to tell you as soon as I can. Given the situation, Seth should be the one to tell you all this. But he's mute. The day he tells you is the day he should start writing books for a living."

Did he just make a joke about Seth being mute?

I do not know whether to laugh or strangle this person. Thunder scoffed and laid down while frowning.

'You and me both, but I am sure he means well. Ryan is just being himself. You know how he's been in the past.'

Thunder rolled her eyes at her answer as Sarah cut the connection.

"That's right, that's true. So get to the point." she said, making a hand gesture forward. This is not the time or place to worry about the little things. If she lets the little things bother her, she will not be able to deal with what might happen in the future.

"When your parents died, you came back to go to their funeral. The pack house was burned down by villains and we lost many of our pack members. You grieved for months and right after the funeral you returned to your other home in Florida because you did not want to be reminded of the past." He paused and continued. "You did not want any contact with the pack, so we left you alone. You rarely visited us and only stayed in the outskirts of the people. But just think, if you had actually gone to the pack house, you might have found Seth sooner."

She chuckled, thinking bitterly of the past.

"Yes, life can be quite stressful. Still, I met him and now we are friends. I regret not coming here sooner, and even though I am here, their deaths still hurt me. I miss them, but I have learned to deal with the fact that my parents are no longer here. When I saw the pack, I did feel a slight sting, but it was not that bad. I do not know what I was so afraid of."

"Change, maybe? We never want to step out of our comfort zone. If you came to the pack house, maybe that would mean acknowledging her passing and that time has moved on with or without you. We hate to leave our comfort zone, but once we do, we feel a little more fearless." replied Ryan casually, crossing his legs.

He just had to hit the nail on the head. She nodded in agreement. She's definitely glad he's Emily's partner. After all the struggle, they finally made it and he's matured so much since she last met him.

She smiles at old times and brings them back to the present. "What does this have to do with Seth now?"

"Sarah, you did not want contact with the pack because you needed time to grieve for your parents. That's why Emily stayed by your side for a long time and even though she visited me, she was never in the pack house. Honestly, she does not even know what happened to Seth. It is a secret that he is mute to most of the other packs. I am his representative and use the excuse that he is busy. We have kept you in the dark about Seth."

After careful consideration, she nodded.

Ryan's expression turned cold and sad. He definitely did not seem comfortable talking about it. "He was abused, as you saw today. When the villains who burned down the pack house kidnapped Seth, Jupiter went after them. He was outnumbered and eventually fell into a coma. Since Seth was so young, he could not yet be the alpha. Stella had to rule the pack herself, but decided to use alcohol as a means of coping. Her mate was in a coma and one day she just snapped. She slapped Seth while she was drunk, but apologized. Soon after, it became a daily thing. When it became a habit, she stopped apologizing and did not see anything wrong with it. Now she sees it as a beneficial punishment for Seth and blames him for Jupiter's downfall."

'When do I get to slap that bitch? How dare she lay a hand on a child! He was so young then!' growled Thunder, baring her fangs.

Truth be told, she too had her anger under control. Her eyes turned black, but she had to think clearly. She was going to find Stella and tear her to pieces.

She calmed down, rubbed her temple, and slowly paced back and forth, digesting the information. It did not help that Thunder was chanting in her head to do it.

'Thunder, I know you are angry. I am just as angry, but we have to be reasonable. Let us focus on helping Seth recover,' she said, seeing Thunder nod and let her continue talking to Ryan.

"Why would she blame Seth? This was not his fault. He was a kid who was kidnapped. You do not see him waving a flag around saying he wants to be taken away, do you?" she said, hating Stella even more.

He shook his head, "Honestly, I think part of her has lost her mind. When your mate is near death or in a coma, some wolves can be calm while others lose their minds. Their bond is weakened. Since Seth was still a child, it was easiest to blame him because he was the reason Jupiter wanted to fight the villains. It is easier to blame those who cannot yet help themselves. Stella needed someone to blame, so she chose Seth."

That sick bitch... Jupiter did his part as his father. What did Stella do? Nothing. Her method of blaming someone who is completely innocent is ridiculous.

"So you are telling me you kept me in the dark because I could not handle Seth being abused by his mother and Jupiter currently being in a coma?" I asked incredulously.

Ryan nodded.

With a heavy sigh, she finally took the seat he had initially suggested, but she wanted to set the record straight. Staring at him accusingly, she growled, "I know you were thinking of my welfare, but I could have come to Seth's aid. You know I would have!"

Ryan stiffened and frowned as he tried to defend his side. "Please understand. At that point, many people in the pack turned against Seth. Those who felt sympathy for him or sided with him were either punished or told to ignore him. You have no idea how much Seth has been through. Can you tell me without hesitation that you would have stormed into the pack house you were afraid to go into after your parents died, beaten up all the pack members who hurt Seth, and challenged Luna Stella for the title of Alpha?"

She was silent, knowing he was right.

What right did she have?

Ryan coughed in annoyance after realizing what he had said. "I am sorry, I did not mean to sound so harsh. It's just that... even I could not help him. I was ordered to ignore Seth's suffering. My wolf had to obey her, and to this day I wish I had done more."

She bit her lip in frustration, hating how helpless the situation was. If only she could turn back time. "No, you are right. What you said makes sense. How can I help Seth if Stella could just order me to do the unspeakable to him."

He smiled and let out a sigh of relief when he saw that she understood. Seeing the conversation slowly coming to an end, she asked, "Was that all you had to say to me?"

"Yes. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know."

She waved goodbye and said, "Thank you."

_ _ _

When she heard what had happened, she did not know what to think. She did not want to believe that the once beautiful and brave Luna Stella turned out to be an abusive person who shamelessly beat her son for no reason, or that Jupiter, the old Alpha and Seth's father, was in a coma. Everything that was said feels so surreal, but she witnessed what Stella did to Seth. It's all true and that has only increased her hatred for her.

'I want to see Seth.'

'Then see our companion. No one is stopping us,' Thunder suggested, scratching behind her ear.

Sooner or later she found herself in Seth's room. Going in quietly, she sat on the edge of the bed and watched his chest rise and fall as he slept soundly. His little snores were very cute and she could not help but giggle a little. Looking over his arms, she could see that the bruises that were once so noticeable were now only faint. He still had a few small cuts, but they were healing quickly.

Then Seth began to frown in his sleep as sweat gathered on his forehead. His hands tightened on the bed sheet.

He's having a nightmare...

She reached out and ran her hands through his short hair. He tensed and winced in his sleep before the sparks soothed him. More naps followed.

As she stroked her companion's cheek, she came to a conclusion. She will make anyone who hurt him pay for what they did to him.

The sight of his current condition only strengthened her resolve.

She will protect Seth and help him protect her pack.

She will be his strength and help him become the way he used to be.

No matter what the cost.
