22 twenty two

Asher's POV

One day ago

I quickly opened the car door and approached the swarm to see what all the commotion was about. Madison walked close behind me with worry filling her eyes. A low growl erupted from me and the crowd soon made room for Madison and I to walk through.

I could tell Madison was a bit nervous but, didn't crumble down. Two men stood there, one with a envelope in his hand. They didn't belong to this pack.

"What's going on here? Speak!" I yelled out to the men. "We have are here to deliver important information to Miss. Madison Black. From Alpha Carter." He calmly replied.

I refrained from completely losing my sanity and growled out, "No. Carter not his men are allowed to speak to my mate. Ever again! I thought I made that clear!"

The averted their gaze to my mate, who was clearly nervous.

And that's when they shared the bad news. The news that still had me surprised to this day.

I had murdered my mate's brother.

As much as I wanted to believe the news was true, I couldn't. When I went on that rampage I wasn't in my right mind. Everything in front of my path was destroyed.

I was a monster.

I tried my hardest to talk Madison down but there was not much I could do in this situation.

She wiped a year off her face and yelled, "You killed my brother! For what? Because you were jealous?! Grow up, Asher! You're ridiculous!" She cried out.

I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out, my mind was blank as I stared at

my mate, who stared back in disgust.

Then, she had stated the words I dreaded the most.

"I, Madison, reject you, Asher!" she yelled and ran off. I attempted to run after her but my legs wouldn't move an inch. The crowd was completely silent, as was I.

All that could be heard was my ragged breathing.

She rejected me.

Madison rejected me.

MY soulmate, rejected me.

My heart shattered as I felt our newly made bond begin to fall apart. I fell to my knees and began to sob.

Present time

The words of Madison rejecting me echoed through my head on repeat. I couldn't think of anything but her. I wanted her back, I missed her.

I couldn't even get in contact with my wolf anymore and I hadn't communicated with my pack since that day, but that was the least of my worries at the moment.

I felt tears begin to drip down my face, I was used to it.

As I heard footsteps make their way toward my door I wiped my eyes and straightened myself up in my chair.

The door opened and in walked my beta, with a saddened look on his face.

"Why the frown, Lorenzo? It wasn't your mate who rejected you in front of your whole pack." I stated loudly as he shit the door behind him and made his way over to my desk, sitting in the guest chair.

He scoffed, "don't act like that Ash. You know your pain is the pack's pain."

I ignored his reply and stared out the window, thinking about her.

Lorenzo gulped and repositioned himself in the chair, "Alpha, it's been a whole day and the pack is concerned, as am I. They need answers."

I ran my hands over my face and blinked, my eyes sore from all the crying.

"I know that. And I will give them answers, just not at the current moment. I need to find my mate. Have the seekers found her yet?" I questioned him.

He nodded, "her scent led to Carter's pack, as you guessed. That's the only person she can run to."

I shook my head and spun around, slamming my fists on the desk. "She should've came back to me! She has me!"

"No, she couldn't have. You know her memory of you has been wiped. She knows nothing of you. Carter is the only other person she's currently aware of in this town, hence why she went there." Lorenzo said as he remained calm and shook his head in disagreement.

His words shattered my heart even more.

Madison doesn't remember me.. every sweet memory we made was wiped from her mind. And now that she's with Carter, he's going to completely ruin her opinion of me before I've even gotten a chance to speak to her again.

"We must get her." I stood up from my chair and held on to the back of the chair. The rejection made me weaker, emotionally and physically.

Lorenzo stood up as well and cleared his throat. "I don't think it's a good idea for you to go to Carter's land. Especially in the state you're in now. If anything were to happen, I'm afraid you wouldn't last long, Alpha."

I scoffed, "please, Lorenzo, don't be ridiculous. Broken heart or not, I'd still be able to kick Carter's ass."

We both chuckled and Lorenzo walked towards me, engulfing me in a hug.

"Please, Alpha. Allow me and a small group of warriors to retrieve our Luna and bring her back to you. We would not fail you." He proposed.

Although I wanted my mate, he was right. I was weakened and would only slow down the rest of the group, I can't risk losing Madison twice.

I hummed in agreement to his plan and leaned back, looking into his eyes with seriousness.

"Bring her back, Lorenzo, unharmed."

"Of course, Alpha. I'll prepare the warriors and we'll leave when we're ready." He wished me farewell and left.

I sat back down into my chair and a small smile creeped onto my face with the thought of Madison being back in my presence.

I will do anything to make things right with her again.

All I have to do is wait.

Madison's POV

I yawned and stretched my arms as I began to wake up. There was a quiet, low whine that came from behind me, following with an arm tightening around my waist.

Butterflies danced around in my stomach and a blush began to form on my cheeks.

"Uh, Carter-" I began before he cut me off, "Shh." He replied.

I laughed and flipped my body around to face him. One of his eyes peeked open to look at me. He gave me a small smirk and whispered, "good morning, Maddie."

I giggled at the old nickname he gave me, it reminded me of the day Joseph and I first came to this pack. I wondered why I never stayed.

"You have a beautiful laugh…" Carter whispered with a slight deepness to his voice.

I grinned at him and sat up from the pillow, staring down at him. "You won't think that when you hear my true laugh.. hint, hint, it sounds like a donkey dying."

He chuckled and bit his lip. My Goddess, he was attractive, even though he just woke up.

In a swift movement he lifted me up and placed me down right on his crotch, making me straddle him.

My eyes widened and I immediately attempted to get off him, failing quickly because of his strong grip on my hips, keeping me secured on top of him.

He leaned close up to my face until our lips were inches from touching. I could barely control my breathing!

His eyes averted from my eyes, to my lips. I closed my eyes and awaited a kiss but it never came. Instead, his lips pressed firmly against the area where my recently healed mark from my mate was.

A small gasp left my mouth and my body perked up. I gripped onto his shoulders and allowed him to continue spreading his kisses around my neck.

One of my hands trailed up to his soft hair and I lightly tugged on it as he pulled moan after moan out of my mouth.

His hands trailed up my shirt and grasped breasts. It felt so good, I didn't want it to stop. But, my wishes were soon destroyed by three knocks on the door.

I sighed in disappointment and Carter growled. His hands slipped from out of my shirt and I began to pull myself up off him, before I did he made sure to leave one tiny kiss on my lips.

I grinned and got off him, "I'll be downstairs addressing whoever decided to interrupt us," Carter said while rolling his eyes, "come down for breakfast whenever you're ready, Maddie."

I nodded and smiled. "Thank you, for everything Carter."

"Of course." He replied and gave me one last grin before leaving.

Although Carter wasn't my mate, he was surely was beginning to feel like it.
