The sun is no longer that hot and can be ignored now. Even though it is afternoon, you might think that it is still noon. If you didn't bother to look at the position of the sun, then you would have thought it was like that. Momo sniffs around and occasionally on some trash piles. She barks sometimes on some piles and when I tried checking them out, I can loot a few goods around like a few scraps of metal. I gathered them because I am planning to make a metal reinforced bat. I am not relying on the wrench especially that a wrench is much more useful in dismantling something rather than using it for bashing.

As for food, I only managed to grab five cans of food. I also got two bottles of water though it looks like it was about to get worse. But that doesn't mean I can't boil it to remove a few of its impurities. I was about to turn into the corner to head to the nearby store when a zombie suddenly jumped forward and lunge at me.

I almost flinched from the zombie but I have to keep calm or one wrong move and I am dead. I quickly block off the advance of the zombie using the makeshift spear I made. Momo also attacked and lunge towards the zombie, allowing me to relieve the zombie's attack. As Momo stalls the zombie, I quickly composed and breathe in hard. I stare at the zombie still trying to get Momo.

No...

That is no longer a person. Killing it is the only way to remove it from it's suffering. I closed my eyes and grip the weapon in my hands. With newfound resolve, I headed to the zombie's head still pinned on the ground. Before the zombie can get up, I raise the makeshift spear and lunge it to the zombie. And I am surprised because the zombie's head seems like it was made from a soft material I forgot the name though I still remember the feeling of it. The blade easily pierced the head of the zombie, which killed it immediately.

It was nerve-wracking but it is not as intense as that of the giant rat. But now that is my first kill on the zombie. And I discovered that the zombie is quite easy to kill and its weakness is the head. The soft head made me think if they still have their skulls intact or the head is just a mass of muscles and tissues. They might be fast but they are so fragile which might be the downside on these guys.

Just as I was trying to process my thoughts, I noticed Momo biting the head of the zombie. It was trying to break open its scalp but I have no idea why.

"What are you doing Momo?" I approached the dog and looked on the scalp of the dead zombie.

"BARK!" Momo responded though I have no idea what she meant. However, she puts her paw into the scalp of the zombie and taps it repeatedly.

"Huh? Do you want to open the skull of this dead guy?"

"BARK!"

Although I hesitated at first, I am also quite curious about what Momo is trying to take from the head of the dead zombie. The only problem with that is that I don't dare to do it. Yes, I may have forgotten most of my memories, but I have not forgotten the composition of a human body. Just doing it like this will make me want to think twice about my action.

But curiosity makes me want to see what is behind the skull and I also don't want to waste more time staring at the dead man. I held the makeshift spear up and stab the forehead of the dead and slowly sliced off the top of the zombie's head. I didn't have trouble doing so because it was too soft. I don't even think I am cutting the head of a former human but a squash instead due to the level of softness. There was never a sign of hardness that I assume I will find and when I finished cutting the scalp, it came off like rubber, and before I can react, black blood started to get out of the head.

What surprised me though is not the black blood but the contents of the head. I was expecting a gory brain inside, being mushed out from the knife but I saw a small orb the size of a pearl inside attached to where the brain was supposed to be. I used the knife to cut it off from the head and grab it with a small cloth. To my surprise, it was hard and I even thought of it as a pearl if not only due to the reddish color of this thing.

I was in the middle of observing the item when Momo suddenly jumped and grab the pearl I was holding. Before I can even react, Momo swallowed the pearl.

"Wha- Hey! Momo, spit it out! That is not edible!" I grab Momo and tried to let her spit out the thing out but Momo is quite stubborn and refuses to spit it out.

In the end, I give up on the notion. Momo is too stubborn to spit it out. I sighed and decided to just let it be. I can tell if Momo will have any kind of changes after eating that stuff. It was a little bit late and the sun is about to set. I have gathered a little bit amount of supplies for the day. Perhaps I will have to resume the scavenging stuff and go back home before it gets dark.

Momo also returned with me and I stopped my scavenging job. Time for doing on making a weapon on my own. Now that the zombies were just very weak in the head, I will just make something really good that can help me clobber them up. And the second thing I want to know is the small pearl that I can get from their heads. I have to check out what the heck they are and what their purpose is.
