"Booooooooooooooring"
In a white space, a small gray ball screamed the same thing over and over again.
"My f*cking god, I've been here days, where the f*ck am I"
As if in response to its cries, a melody started to fill the air
'Oshiete oshiete yo sono shikumi wo~'
"...the f*ck..."
'Boku no naka ni dare ga iru no~
Kowareta kowareta yo kono sekai de~
Kimi ga warau nani mo miezu ni~♫'
The small ball started spinning around, looking for something. As it looked up, it saw a man staring back at it.
The man's appearance...
'Edgelord' -Tought the gray ball
Couldn't be defined better.
The man wore a spiked collar around his neck, a bowl cut that protruded on the left side and covered his eye. A tank top with a skull over a black long-sleeve shirt underneath, oversized black pants with chains, many chains. He also wore black earrings, black spiked bracelets, black mascara, black lipstick, and black nails.
The man suddenly furrowed his brow and opened his mouth, letting out a deep voice that ended up cracking and sounding like a rooster.
"..."
"..."
"I'd rather you laugh than hold back your laughter"
"You know, I can't" -The gray ball replied nervously.
"And that's because..."
'Mmm, I mean, it's not because this is the fucking cliché fanfic opening, a completely white room and I'm a ball, a F*CKING ball, no arms, no legs, no little brother, WHERE'S MY LITTLE BROTHER.
And you're flying, FLYING, if you're not God you're Pain with a metal stick shoved up your ass'
".."
"You heard, that right?"
"Edgelord, huh" -The man replied with a slight amusement.
"That- ...I'm done. Kill me, I mean, I'm dead idk"
The man began to descend as he replied.
"No worries, you're kinda funny, like a little monkey."
The small ball began to break out in a cold sweat due to the presence it had in front of it.
"Are you God, sir?"
A mocking smile appeared on the man's face
"Isn't it obvious, little one? I have to say, I didn't notice you were here, the cycle of reincarnation started a while ago and I didn't expect you to be here.
But seeing you, I understand why."
"Lord God, what are you referring to? ...I've been here several days. Why you dind't come sooner?"
A slight frown appeared on God's face.
"First: Don't call me Lord God, that's cringey.
Second: I'm referring to your appearance, you must be feeling like you're a ball, and you are, but a gray one, 'what does that mean?', it means that your soul is unstable for the reincarnation cycle of this universe, this is because the limits of your capacity exceed those permitted by the Akashic Records.
Third: This happened before, you won't die, I'll just transfer you somewhere else, after all gray souls are anomalies that occur every few millennia and it's my responsibility to take care of all of them.
Lastly: I didn't come earlier because you didn't call."
As the small ball sank into its thoughts, God closed his eyes, seemingly waiting. Minutes passed when finally the ball decided to speak.
"I only have two more questions."
God opened his eyes and replied with a smile.
"Shoot"
A small suspicion arose within the ball.
"Why can't I remember my name? And what do you gain from this?"
"Mmm... You can't remember it because it doesn't exist. By being outside the reincarnation cycle, you're outside the Akashic Records, which store all existing souls in your universe.
In fact, your memories have been compressed by this space in your soul to prevent you from going mad. And I don't gain anything, it's my duty. But..."
He made a small pause before a grotesque smile froze the atmosphere.
"You're quite interesting, you know. In this space, countless souls like you have appeared, and each of them rushed with dozens of questions.
All their reactions were similar—nervous with a barrage of questions. They were annoying, but they were human because they were annoying. But you... in your head, you're avoiding thinking about many things. Since I arrived, you've been in a defensive position.
When you asked if I could read your thoughts, I felt discomfort for a brief moment, and from then on, it's been filled with random thoughts that have nothing to do with the situation, like 'if NTR is evil and Vanilla is life' or 'Goku solos.' You... you fear me for some reason."
The small ball began to tremble as the atmosphere shifted, but as God's explanation came to an end, it stopped, leaving a silence in the air.
"You know, I've read many, many stories, novels, books, fanfics, and among these many are too many isekai, they began with situations similar to this one, God giving the opportunity to reincarnate.
Sometimes it was because of a mistake where he killed the protagonist and to make amends he gave them the opportunity, and in others you simply died and it was offered to you.
I thought it was nonsense how they behaved, they were in front of Gods, they know what common human sense is, but as I said, it's human. If you're God, why give a reward to an existence that's an ant to you to amend your mistake?
Then I looked for the logic if it really happened, you're a God, you make a mistake and you give a solution, and if you really give it because you don't have another option? God is omnipotent and omniscient.
Does he really need to rectify himself? Or is he obligated to do so for acting outside his limits and interfering in what he shouldn't interfere with, and that something that obliges him must be above him.
Existence represents the limits of the beings that compose it, no matter how much you are a God, you are a because you exist and if this existence has laws that, by having great power, limit you so that you do not act freely. The Akashic Records."
The small ball paused as the face of the 'God' in front of it raised its eyebrows with a look of surprise for a moment, then returned to display an even deeper smile.
"Continue."
Exhaling a sigh and taking another breath, the small ball continued.
"The music, your appearance, making me wait for a while, calling me a little monkey, it was all a distraction, wasn't it? On the other hand, there's your displeasure when I addressed you as 'Lord God'.
You also said that reincarnating gray souls was your 'responsibility and duty', and you emphasized that the Akashic Records store the existing souls of MY universe.
...This room that actually prevents me is from you, isn't it? This is your 'prison', controlling the cycle of life and rebirth is your duty. You are the 'god' of this universe, but not the only one, hence your reaction to the name.
Is this a test?"
"Kukuku... KUKUKUKUKU"
The 'God's' face turned grim, his entire expression changed, his smile disappearing and the aura around him fading for a few seconds.
Suddenly, an explosion of overwhelming aura enveloped him, seconds passed, and the aura vanished, leaving inside the same man but completely changed.
He wore a suit from head to toe, his hair slicked back, square glasses perched on his nose, and in his hand he carried a briefcase exuding an aura of authority.
"And approved," he commented as he produced a writing pen from his hand and used it on the portfolio.
"You know, you have a frightening talent, and I don't just mean your wit. You're one of the few throughout the millennia I've lived who has grasped the essence of this situation.
My duty is to guide those souls with enough brains to be reincarnated. There were many who had overwhelming capacity like yours, but when they became aware of it, their attitude changed and they were blinded by their 'bravery.'
In the past, gray souls were reincarnated and turned against the gods. At first, they didn't pay it any mind because, as you said, they are ants to us, but when a god's authority was damaged in a universe of great power, the gods came together and designated themselves as 'Multiverse Regulators'.
'Eighth grade syndrome ahh name'
"HEY, I PROPOSED THAT"
"SORRY"
"..."
":.."
"Pfffft"x2
After a few seconds of laughter, the small ball saw that the atmosphere was friendlier and finally dared to ask something it had been waiting for.
"Can I ask something? What is that ability you're talking about? When I was alive, I worked with metals, watched anime, and slept. I don't understand how that can affect the existence."
When God heard it's question, his mood improved even more, as if he were waiting just as eagerly, if not more, than the ball.
"Mmm. Finally, you asked. Everyone else just asked as soon as I told them.
As I explained, gray souls have abilities, in your words we could talk about talents. Some had absurd physics, others had affinities for elements or the creation of matter. Yours, among all of them, is one of the most distinctive I've seen: adaptability.
The ability to adapt to any situation and improve yourself to face it. Among all I've seen, you're the weakest but the one who can be one of the strongest stars that may have ever existed.
I observed your existence, living in a peaceful world, leading a peaceful life, and not getting involved in any abnormal situations, your talent did not flourish. You were called a genius when you learned about blacksmithing and acquired the experience that would take a master craftsman months to achieve. This is the only instance in your life where your ability affected your performance."
The response left the ball stunned for a few moments.
"Do you mean that my ability is 'talent'?"
"Yes, that would be a summary, but it seems to only affect those things you truly intend to learn, otherwise it would have impacted all your abilities ...By the way, you died young, did you know?"
"I know... My uncle died. I cried for days in the forge he left me. I was left alone and without family. When I decided to move forward, I went out to deliver an order and got involved in a car accident, and suddenly I was here a few days ago.
"I understand. Let's get to the point. You've passed the test and have had one of the best performances. That deserves a bonus. Choose where you want to go, with what benefit, and a minor characteristic."
"Whoa, cold huh. But is that all? I get to choose where to go with just one power for no reason? And what's a minor characteristic?"
God grinned slightly as he crossed his arms.
"Well, a minor characteristic is something related to the chosen benefit. An example would be the benefit of Excalibur from Fate and a minor characteristic would be mastery with the sword. By the way, are you interested in being my 'Star'?"
Upon hearing his words, the ball couldn't help but roll its eyes.
"I like girl-"
"FIST OF LOVE"
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH"
In the blink of an eye, God's figure disappeared and reappeared in front of the ball, his fist moving at a speed that would be invisible to the human eye.
Upon impact with the small ball, it was sent flying backward.
"Ayyy, my 'head?' hurts. HEY THAT'S FROM GARP. I'LL MAKE ODA SUE YOU"
"IDIOT, 'Stars' are the representation of a god. You've made a favorable impression on me, so there are benefits, two minor characteristics, totaling three."
Upon hearing this, two stars seemed to appear in the eyes of the ball.
"WOOF WOOF NICE TO MEET YOU MY MASTER"
"I'm already starting to regret it. C'mon choose quickly"
Putting aside the silliness, the ball began to consider the possibilities.
'A place to be reborn... truthfully, I don't want to be reborn. Being a baby and not being able to fend for myself would be creepy. Marvel is crazy, and who knows if I would end up in the comic book world. DC is too much for me, especially if I end up pre-Darkseid. A world where I'm OP but not revered as a god... too much power could affect me.'
God intervened at one point.
"Hey, since you're my Star, can I recommend a place? Why don't you go to Runeterra? You know, I rub elbows with Aurelion a bit, and also with Arceus, but we recently argued about Rule34. What they're doing to Pokémon is criminal."
Confirming with a nod the last part, the small orb began to ponder where it had heard the name Runeterra before.
"Runeterra? Do you want me dead? I don't know much about the lore, but I do know there are a ton of monsters there. In Freljord, Ornn and the crazy bear are fighting. In the Shurima desert, there's Azir and I think Nasus, not sure if Renekton or Xerath are there, but those four are also crazy. Let's not forget about the wars of Noxus or the sea monsters of Bilgewater, although I do like the warrior or ninja vibe of Ionia."
The more the little ball spoke, the more God couldn't help but roll his eyes.
"To say you don't know much, you know quite a bit. Relax, it's not like I'm going to send you out there empty-handed.
You've got the powers and the three characteristics, and if you want, I can ask Aurelion for a little system for you, you know, to assist you and all that."
Reasoning through its possibilities and powers, the ball began to 'think.' The truth was that the idea of having a system tempted it quite a bit. Unbeknownst to it, a smug little smile formed on the face of the God near the ball.
'I got him hehehe~'
"It's decided, I want the toon forc-"
"FIST OF LOVE"
"OUCH, hey, got it, too OP, my bad. I want the power of Cosmic Spider-Man."
The fist of God began to rise, for the third time
"And now what?"
"Idiot, the enigma force doesn't exist in the Runeterra universe, ask for something sensible, don't be a damn god. Besides, Spider-Man isn't the strongest power you could ask for. Vector manipulation, Gomu Gomu no Mi, Sunshine from Escanor, why be a spider?"
"You wouldn't understand, being Spider-Man isn't a power, it's a feeling. Powers don't make Spider-Man, actions make the spider. Plus, swinging through the jungles of Ixtal or the mountains of Ionia would be awesome."
God couldn't help but roll his eyes again.
'Blacksmith? This guy is a Wordsmith'
"Make your wishes already, you're taking too long."
"Going~, not counting Cosmic Spider-Man, I'd say the best would be Superior Spider-Man or Spider-Man 616. If I ask for his powers, what would I get?"
God stepped forward, clearing his throat with a single cough before proceeding with a firm voice.
"The Superior version has more scientific knowledge, and the 616 version has better senses and battle experience.
But keep in mind, you won't have their battle experience. Experience comes with memories of battles, and someone like you, who has lived a peaceful life, might not be able to handle the cruelty of Superior or the stress of 616."
A slight shiver ran through the ball, but after a few seconds of reflection, it had a determined look.
"I will forge my own path with my own experiences. I choose the powers of Spider-Man 616. Both have similar inteligence, but this version has better spider sense and reflexes and is the strongest.
For three minor characteristics. I'll choose: the knowledge of the spider arms from Superior, organic webbing though it depends on the user's health, I heard is tougher than artificial, and finally, the bio-electricity of Miles Morales."
Dios nodded, and for a moment, he showed a discomforting expression that didn't escape the notice of the little ball.
"Is something happening?"
"Everything you've said can be granted to you. In Runeterra, it would be a considerable force, but you wouldn't alter the balance of power in that universe.
The issue would be the spider-sense. Do you know what it is?", he remarked as he massaged the bridge of his nose.
With a somewhat proud tone, the ball responded
"You know, I'm a keen Spiderman enthusiast. My uncle and I watched all the movies, and I've also read some popular comics.
The spider-sense is a tingling sensation that comes from the enhanced senses of each Spiderman. Basically, it warns him of danger, although in Spider-Verse, it was used to recognize each one with other Spidermen."
With a deep sigh, God continued massaging his temple, "So you don't know... The spider-sense is a connection to the Web of Life and Destiny. You said you watched all the movies; different universes have different Spidermen. These are the personifications of that Web in their universes and are called arachnid totems. What I'm getting at is, if you want Spiderman's powers, you have to be willing to be connected to the Web of Life and Destiny and the problems that come with it."
"What kind of problems are you referring to?" he asked, confused.
"The inheritors, they killed Cosmic Spider-Man in the comic, by the way."
"...WHAT, I-I..."
"'A great power comes with great responsibility', my little future Spider-Man."
The tone of God intensified.
"And listen, I chose you as my Star because I see something in you. Trust in yourself and your strength. Plus, what's scarier, having Morlun visit you or Zac showing up in the pipes while you're in the bathroom?"
The last statement made the doubt within the ball fade away a little.
"Hahaha... I-, I still doubt my abilities, but I know that I won't get anywhere with fear. I'll do it."
"That's the spirit, well soul in this case. Now, behold my 'Star', start your trip!"He exclaimed as he moved his hand, and a portal appeared.
"WAIT, where a you gonna send me, what year and what life i'll get? Are you just drop me? I dont want to reborn in a baby!"
"Pff, trivialities, you have a system that will explain everything to you. By the way, the bonus I mentioned is a surprise, I'm sure you'll like it. Have fun!" As he proceeded to kick the ball, sending it flying like a Roberto Carlos shot towards the portal."
"EY-"
The ball was absorbed by the portal and it closed. Seconds passed, and God's friendly expression turned into a stern one.
"Reveal yourself."
"Relax, friend, it's just me," spoke an elderly voice exuding wisdom and strength. Simultaneously, thousands of stars took the form of a dragon.
"I wasn't referring to you, Aurelion. This is my domain, spider, don't overstep."
Silence fell in the space until moments later, a rift made of spiderwebs appeared. From within it emerged a metallic golden sphere composed of gears, with five mechanical legs diverging from it. At the top, the figure of a man with a strange mask was observed. He was connected to the sphere, and this connection was covered by a web.
Aurelion stepped aside to observe this interaction with a hint of amusement.
"I'm not looking for trouble, I was just intrigued by the creation of a new thread in the Web of Life and Destiny"
"That's nonsense, Karn. You can observe the creation of a new totem from the cave where you are imprisoned."
"I left that name in the past, and you know it very well, Shiva."
"Get to the point, spider"
"Why him, Shiva? Regardless of his ability, you've burdened a peaceful mortal with one of the greatest burdens of existence."
Upon hearing that, Shiva smirked mockingly.
"Peaceful mortal? That's bullsh*t Weaver. When he thought about the threats of Runeterra that could kill him, or the danger of the inheritors, something within him began to pulsate. There is a hunger for battle on him.
When it blossoms."
As Shiva, recalled all this, a shiver ran through him.
"He will be my greatest creation."
