Chapter 45

The sound tech held his hand up and everything stopped.

“Is that as loud as you’re going to play?” he asked.

“Probably.” I looked over at Joel. “This isn’t a loud piece.”

“Okay,” Joel looked up. “Do a voice check. Play the last of the theme, then look up and say the ‘At times…’ line. Ready? Action.”

I started eight bars from the end. Slowly looked up and said my line. The silence lasted five more seconds and Joel yelled for a cut.

Then Joel turned to the crew. “Okay. Sound?”

“It’s good.”

“Lighting.”

“Good.”

“Costume?

“Good.”

“Make-up?”

“Good.”

“Alright,” Joel yelled. The camera light came on. “Quiet on the set. We’re hot.” His assistant stepped forward and clicked the scene block.

I took a breath and started to play. When it ended, I looked at the camera and said my line. After a few seconds, Joel yelled for a cut.

“Everyone get that?”

There were several yells of, “Good here.”

“Anyone with a problem?”
