11 Familiar

chapter 11

Reskeme watched as Rufus was drawing the 9 sided star, he recognized the symbol it was a shame the mage told him to shut up or Reskeme would ask him if it was the same one. Reskeme heard the door open and turned in his spot to see Enis entering with a smile. Reskeme watched as Rufus cut his own palm and mixed it with the blood of the bucket before continuing the painting the man didn't even flinch.

Enis asked, "did you get the Rubies"? Reskeme said, "Yes although the guy only had 3 in his pouch". Enis said, "throw them to me". Reskeme Pulled out the pouch and with a sigh and threw them to Enis. The man caught them and opened the pouch. Enis put the rubies in his coat with a mischievous smile.

Reskeme asked, "why are you not putting them on the ritual"? Enis replied," We don't need the rubies for the ritual I just wanted you to pay me something for getting you a familiar". Reskeme asked, "you are telling me that you sent me out there to risk my life in stealing them just because you wanted some money?"

Enis Replied "yes of course I would your life is meaningless to the guild if you don't make me money." If Reskeme could kill the man on the spot he would. Enis could see the hate in the boy's eyes this only made his smile wider.

Reskeme sat in the drawings, he was uncomfortable standing still in one spot. The ritual appeared to be complete and Rufus took some steps back from the runes. Rufus said "Enis stand close incase I need you to channel mana".

Reskeme watched in fascination as all the runes began to glow starting from the circle he was in. When all of the runes were glowing Reskeme felt a massive weight on his body and mind it only took 10 seconds for the ritual to make the boy pass out from the amount of power coming off the massive runes.

Rufus watched with a detached gaze as the boy passed out, this was normal everyone who was apart of this ritual passed out it was too draining. The Ritual took extracted the soul of the person in the focus circle and with the help of a mage like Rufus was amplified and projected to the furthest planes of the world and even into other dimensions.

This ritual was only usable on those with soul magic and wouldn't even activate on someone who couldn't access their soul. The mage would soul cast the soul by using the runes and once the mage felt the boy's soul find something he would pull it back. That was why the ritual was soo big it was a portal ritual and a searching ritual.

Rufus felt it as the boy's soul met up with its other half being connected by blood magic with the runes around the boy Rufus felt it as the two met. Now he was at the hard part he began channelling all of the power he could. The trouble was he could only sustain this for 10 minutes.

The summoning ritual was underway, Rufus channelled all of the mana he could control into the Ritual, well this wasn't willing on the master mages part something was wrong and Rufus wasn't sure what it was. He thought it would only take a minute to summon the boys familiar. It was now ten minutes later and Rufus was beginning to panic he was at his limits and couldn't channel anymore, the ritual would keep pulling mana thru him because he was the focus. Rufus was panting hard and could taste blood, he started to panic and yelled, "Enis come over here help me I can't take much more".

Enis hurries over to the pale and shaking Rufus, he put his hand on Rufuses back and immediately felt the pull of mana being channelled thru him, after ten more minutes of heavy breathing and panic a portal, in reality, opened next to the unconscious Reskeme, both magicians collapsed at the pressure coming off of the portal.

They stared in terror at a portal to the abyss, The feeling of malice, hatred, fear and torment radiating off it was terrifying. Both mages couldn't even move they were soo terrified. Rufus remembered the pinprick portal he had summoned, and it didn't even come close to the human-sized tear they were looking at now.

So that is why it had taken so much of their mana to open the portal Rufus thought, it was a tear to the abyss. Unlike the last time, there was no protection magic for the two magicians. Rufus and Enis were withstanding the full force of one of the planes of hell.

The two wizards could do nothing but watch as the ground around the portal began catching on fire and spreading, The flames were menacing, a dark green that glowed with a baleful aura and spread in every direction consuming everything. The two men coward in fear, it could only be balefire the soul-consuming flames of hell.

Something fell from the portal into the epicentre of the fire it was unmoving until a moment later the being began to twitch. The flames of hell reversed flow some entering the boy and some began entering the thing on the ground as the soul fire connected the two for a moment. The portal started to collapse it began vibrating and with an ominous boom a wave of fire shot out in every direction.

Unbeknownst To Enis and Rufus the ominous presence that had been suffusing the courtyard was demonic essence. When exposed to active balefire the build-up of essence was ignited. Setting off a massive chain reaction, Boom! The fire spread with a massive explosion, consuming the two wizards in what could only be described as horrible agony.

The flames of hell washed over Reskeme, Enis, Rufus and the familiar, before tearing thru the walls of the training hall with a flash of green, The entire hall was consumed by the flames. A purple black haze Unseen by any who were not soulcasters , drifted from where Enis and Rufus were killed. The mist entered the small form of the familiar, making the form of the demon glow with a purple light before disapearing. Reskeme felt a massive rush of energy that was painful but the energy made him feel refreshed. He opened his eyes to complete chaos.

Everything was on fire, where the two master mages had stood was nothing. Maybe they had escaped the blaze Reskeme thought. Reskeme got off his back and sat up all of his aches and pains were gone in fact he felt Refreshed. He looked around. What! The guild house was gone all the walls were flattened. what remained was on fire, The most confusing part was that the fire was like Reskmes fire it was green and seemed to rage with an intense fury as it consumes all.

Reskeme thought maybe he got saved from the fire until he notices to his shegrin that all of his clothes were gone, there was one bright side. The fire had melted off the metal bracers and even the amulet. Reskeme only hoped that all of the residents of the guild had gotten out of the building before it caught fire the guildhall was huge and mostly on fire.

Reskeme thought that this fire was odd it wasn't hot but it burned, he had been next to a house fire once and could feel it from ten blocks away the heat was intense. Reskeme was in the middle of the blaze and the fire felt refreshing like a warm spring morning. Reskeme felt like the fire was giving him strength as he stood by and watched the fire rage.

Reskeme was admiring the fire with fascination and horror, the fire wasn't harming him but the clear destruction the flame was doing to the guild house was on another level. A squeak came from the side making Reskeme jump with surprise. There was a form in the flames next to him. The flames covered the creature although the flames didn't seem to burn the small form.

The figure walked towards Reskeme on its arms and legs, Reskeme took a step back at the sight of the demon. The creature was small but its sight invoked terror in Reskeme, The creature had no hair it had big wolf like ears with coarse grey skin. The creature was growling menacingly at Reskeme on all fours it looked like a wolf. The creature had two horns on its head pointing straight up matching its ears.

The odd part of the creature was its mouth and face resembled a wolfs with long jaws with a single row of straight teeth and thin long canines that were twice as long. The demon's body was lean with the upper torso of a human leading to unhuman like hands with 5 fingers a thumb on each hand with long thin claws were the nails should be. The demon had clawed feet with long claws extended, every part of the beast was designed to kill. The tiny demon resembled a wolf-human with horns it was clearly male if the place between its legs was anything to go off.

The demon walked over towards Reskeme flames licking against its skin the demon had fierce yellow eyes that spoke of intelligence. The demon was not a beast, it was an intelligent being Albiet still a child. Reskeme felt something coming from the demon, he felt a question, it felt like the thing was asking him why it was here.

With shock Reskeme realized this was his familar, the demon looked small at first on all fours it was only up to Reskemes knees. Until the demon stood on its hind legs exposing its lean muscled frame. The demon was as tall as Reskemes chest on two clawed feet. The demons knees were facing forwards like a humans .

The emotions came at Reskeme again demanding his attention, The boy was staring at the being in front of him not daring for a moment to look away. Reskeme felt a conection when he stared into the eyes of the demon he thought at it "hello"? This seemed to make the demon stop growing, the being opend its mouth and let a long barbed tung lull out.

Reskeme recieved another feeling one that felt like the demon was happy. Reskeme wondered what the being was happy about, when he more saw then felt an image of the green fire burning around them. So Reskeme thought, the demon is happy about the building burning down. Thinking this at the demon got him a look that he could only take as a smile. The demon exposed his teeth in a terrifying smile.

Reskeme finally snapped out of his trance like state and realized the fire had almost completely consumed the whole building surely it was a bad idea to stay around something soo flashy and ominous as the green fire. Reskeme went towards the back of the building the slums were were and this would be a great place to hide maybe get some new clothes.

He turned almost tripped on some burning wood and thought of the demon thinking it should follow him. when the demon came after him on all fours in an oddly silent manner he moved outside of the burning guildhall looking for a place to hide and maybe some clothing.
