“Yes,” he snarled, pausing in his work, turning to glower at them. “Do you not understand what is at stake here? This is our first contact, our first real contact with an alien lifeform, we have to preserve it for study! Think of what we can learn!”

Abruptly, he was pulled back from the console and yanked around. He flinched, blinked, opened his mouth to protest, and Lilith’s fist smashed into his nose, sending terrible pain through his body. He crumbled, doubling up, as the teenage girl stood over him shaking the pain out of her hand, wincing with displeasure.

With her free hand, she reached out and seized hold of his lab coat by the shoulder, pulling him back up, and slamming him against the console.

“Are you stupid?” she demanded.

He whimpered, blood streaming out of his nose.

“Our friend is out there, risking their life. The least you could do is have some respect for that life.”
