Prologue pt.2

Our classes ended and we separated our paths. Sain, though new to the town, had the road to his home memorised.

His face won't stop smiling.

I really made friends! They are my first ever friends! We can get to talk a lot! I can tell mom a lot of stories from my school! Surely fun days await us!

Hold on.

Sain stalls before a store.

I still have some money. Shall I buy some food for back home?

He pushes the door and enters.

After grabbing a whole lot of snacks, he puts them on the counter for cashing.

While waiting he looks around the store like he's scanning.

This is a large store, compared to the one we had in our old town. There's also a pharmacy in it.

He glances at the cashier's desk and notices a pamphlet.

Part time employee recruitment.

He points at it and asks. "Is the post still available?"

The cashier starts to check his goods as he replies. "Yes."

"Do.. do you hire students? You see…" he fiddles with his fingers. "I.. I'm in dire need of a job."

He glances up at Sain. "Talk to the manager."

"Where can I meet him?"

"He will come here tomorrow evening. At around 5 perhaps. Your school should end by then right?"

"Ye.. yes!"

"Come back then."

He again brightly smiles. "Thank you for your generosity."

"Yes. Yes. Have a good day."

He nods. "Yes!"

Like a flight foot, he reaches his apartment and happily climbs up the stairs. He inserts his hand in his pocket and pulls out a bunch of keys jingling together.

He unlocks the door and hastily takes off his shoes.

"Mom! I'm home!" He hits his toes against a pile of boxes which leads him to switch on the lights. "Ouch! My toe! Why did you keep the house so dark?" He looks around. "Mom. Mom. Where are you? Why don't you respond to me?"

He keeps searching. "Mom!" He frowns out of anxiety. "Mom! Where are you! Please.. Please don't leave me again!"

He turns around hearing some loud steps. The steps get closer and closer.

His mother abruptly comes from behind and shoves him with all her force.

Sain hits his back and head against the wall and sits. The bag in his hand falls.

She groans and clutches his hair.

But the smile on his face never faded.

"Mom. I'm glad you're here."

She leaves his hair and starts to scratch herself while groaning. She starts to scream.

Sain stands up and embraces her tightly. Pressing her head softly closer to his chest. Rubbing her head and letting her feel his warmth. His gentle voice mumbles into her ears.

"Shh. Shh. There there. Its alright. Everything is okay. You don't have to torment yourself. You're alright."

She calms down and sheds a few drops of tears before walking away.

Sain rubs his head and follows after her.

"Mom! You know I met a lot of kind hearted people today. They were all so nice. I wish i could introduce him to you." Once again he bumps into a box. "Right. Mom. Lets decorate our house. What you say."

Unlike his appearance, his cheerful voice lights up her gloomy house.
