Chapter 43 Freedom

Outside the rehabilitation centre, i climb out of the car, surrounded by cops.

This is where they kept her.

"Follow me."

Hands cuffed to the front, i follow after Xeno.

"Thank you for letting me see her again."

"Pretending to be the polite boy now?"

"I've always been like this."

"Says he, who killed five people until now, haha. How scary."

I raise my eyes at him, a bit of anguish trapped in them.

We stop by the desk.

"Yes. I'm the person who admitted her here. I've some visitors for her."

The nurse gets up. "Alright. Please follow me."

We follow after the nurse.

"The patient isn't very vulnerable, still we advise you to be careful."

"Yes."

The nurse leaves us in front of a room.

"You have 10 minutes. Say everything you want until then."

I gently tilt my head. "10 minutes, huh?"

"Your time has already begun."

"Erm. Before i see her. Can you please uncuff my hands? I'd hate to show myself like that."

"Aren't you being very demanding?"

"Please. You or more people can follow me inside the room. I promise. I won't do anything funny."

He takes out the keys and unlocks my hands.

"Thank you."

I leave out a deep breath and fix my clothes. I'm nervous. This will be the last time I'll be meeting her. What should i say? I have a lot to say. Will she even listen to me? Will she talk to me? Will she hit me? Am I going to be okay?

I'm anxious. I'm scared.

Its going to be so lonely. I'm scared to be alone. I don't want to be alone.

"Sain, you'll run out of your time."

"Yes. Sorry."

I push the door.

"Mom.."

I gasp out of surprise.

She isn't here!

Startled, Xeno calls for the supervisor.

"Where's the patient who's supposed to be in this room?"

"I don't know. She might've followed the nurse?"

"Which nurse?"

"There are several nurses who come in and out. I don't know which one."

"Sir. I think its better if we check the cameras here."

"Yeah. Let's go."

"Hold on." I turn around. "Please let me look for her as well."

Xeno comes and pulls me by my cuffs. "You come with us."

Requested by the cops, we gather inside the footage room.

"It looks like the patient Rosalyn has gotten out of her room by herself. She wasn't vulnerable so we never locked her room."

"Where is she now?"

"She took the elevator to the roof."

"The roof?"

"You don't need to worry. Patients are allowed on the roof and there are safety nets as well. She's going to be fine."

Regardless, I storm out of the footage room.

"The criminal is escaping!"

"Follow him!"

Xeno sighs. "He is probably going to the roof." He saunters out of the room.

I crash against the elevator and keep pressing the button.

It is stuck on the 9th floor. It won't open!

I rush through the stairs with the officers following after me.

[Rosalyn climbs up the ladder to the staircase shade. The roof is normally protected with safety nets but the staircase shade is unprotected.

She climbs up and stands on the edge. The breeze gently brushes her face. She lifelessly looks forward into the blankness.

"Officer Xeno! The patient is on the staircase shade. She's intending to jump!"

"How did she get there?!"

"The repairman must've left their ladder after removing the solar panel to replace them."

What a turn of fate! And I'm not even liking it.

She extends her foot in air. The other foot still touches the ground. It is the freedom that she longed for so long. She wanted to waste no time and extends her other foot.]
