Being at home all day for a week was making Hannah go crazy. There was absolutely nothing for her to do. Al she does was the same as the days that passed by. She wakes up early in the morning, goes through with her routines, and then back to bed when night falls. She suddenly missed working overtime.
Not only her but Penelope also. The child was bored staying at home with Hannah and playing the same games over and over again and the worst part is, Hannah doesn't even play the games right! She missed Raymond. If only he was here then…
Hannah was sitting on the floor in her room just like the past few mornings with Penelope in front of her arranging some building blocks. She knew that Penelope was bored but what could she do? She would have taken Penelope out of the house, to the park, or maybe somewhere else but given her current situation, going out of the house now was like staring at death in the eye.
"Penny," Hannah called and the child looked up with a faint smile on her face. "Would you like to go to school?" Penelope tilted her head to the side as if thinking about it and then she shook her head.
"No! Uncle Raymond said that school is bad!" Penelope started firmly and went back to her building blocks.
Hannah stared at the child in surprise. School was not bad. Raymond just did that because he knew who Penelope was and it would be dangerous for the both of them if Penelope was to leave the house, much less go to school. And in his attempt to protect them, he had destroyed the image of going to school in Penelope's head but Raymond was no longer here.
It was fine when Raymond was home-schooling her but Raymond was no longer here and Hannah didn't even know how to teach a child.
"School is not bad," Hannah tried to change Penelope's mind but it seems that Raymond has carved the wrong image of school deeply in Penelope's mind as she continued to shake her head at whatever Hannah said.
Hannah exhaled audibly as she was ready to stop persuading Penelope when something popped into her head.
"You get to meet new friends too if you go there and you won't be in the house every day". Penelope's ears perked up at this and she looked at Hannah. It looks as though the gears in her head were moving as she thought about it.
If she goes to school then she would have friends. She would not be in the house all the time…
"But school is bad". Penelope said in a small voice. It was obvious that she wanted to go to school and make friends but what Raymond said was still at the back of her head.
"School is not bad Penny. You get to have friends as much as you want and you also learn new things too". Penelope lowered her and it looked like she was going to cry. Hannah panicked immediately and more to Penelope's side before pulling her in a hug.
"Don't cry. You don't have to go if you don't want to". Hannah consoled the child who was already sobbing in her arms.
"I want to go to school". Penelope said in between sobs and Hannah was surprised. If that was the case then who did she cry? Hannah shook her head. She was never going to understand this child.
"Okay. Let's get you ready so we can leave." Hannah said and stood up with the child. Even though she wasn't smiling, she was happy that Penelope agreed to go to school. When she was a girl, going to school was impossible as she was trapped in that awful place. If she had a time machine, she would have turned back time to when she was still a child. She would have gone to a school like every other kid. Maybe then, her life would not be as messed up as it is right now. She didn't want Penelope to spend all her childhood locked up in the house with nothing to do except play with her toys. She was scared that Penelope might grow up to be like her and she didn't want that. To think that Raymond wanted to take Penelope to the basement…
She brushed off the thoughts in her head and went into the room with penelope.
After minutes had passed, Hannah came out of the bathroom with Penelope who was wrapped in a white towel. She brought out some clothes and dressed Penelope in them before braiding her hair.
When Hannah was done, she looked at herself in the mirror and realized that she couldn't go out like this; with her face exposed for the world to see, she went into the closet and wore her disguise before coming out.
Penelope was shocked when she saw a strange yet familiar face. She took two steps back and her eyes turned glossy. Hannah saw this and walked towards Penelope. She squats and places her hands on Penelope's shoulder before giving her an assuring nod.
Penelope nodded back and smiled before Hannah stood up and they started heading to the living room.
Just when they reached the living room, the door burst open revealing an angry Axel who was glaring at Hannah. If eyes could kill then Hannah would die over and over again due to the killing intent in Axel's eyes.
"Who the hell are you?!"
