The Sword Hero

I opened my eyes, gazing upon the dark stone ceiling, once again reminded that this is a nightmare the world cannot wake from. Yawning I sat up, "Damn, It's cold as hell in this place." My name is Warner. I was summoned from the Great Elder Mages of Xliberi, one of the four human kingdoms that still existed at the time and had merged to create the Holy Trinity Empire. Up from the makeshift cot and got dressed, I grabbed and sheathed my sword before stepping outside of my room. People, Humans, everywhere trying to earn their keep or risk exile. Checking my watch, "Shit, I'm late," I dashed to my destination, The King's Atrium.

I rush past the king's guardsmen and push the giant doors open without a second thought. "Sorry I am late everyone, but as it appears, I have honored you with my presence." I announce to the king and his men, like a bird singing at dawn. "Silence as you stand before me," the King shouted in retaliation.

How dare he speak to me like that? I am a holy warrior from the heavens, and he? A mere mortal.

"Kneel before your lord," yelled a guard, "before we consider your disobedience as treason." I drop to one knee, despite my stubbornness, to avoid any unwanted disputes.

These mortals seem not to understand, one as I could end everyone in this room in seconds.

"The Flame Priestess is already outside, protecting our fortress from those were-beasts, and you, The so-called "Bladed Overlord," are still sitting inside while we are under threat? I order you to go assist her now! Do I make myself clear?" The King screamed. The Flame Priestess, the brat who calls herself my "little sister", Kelly. "I understand, your Highness."

Hearing those words coming out of my mouth, absolutely disgusting.

I rise from my knee and head off towards her location.

Upon reaching the outside, the outskirts have been soiled by blood and corpses of charred beasts. I see a spiral of fire from over the wall, my sister's specialty of magic. Sighing, I head out of the fortress gates and find my sister chanting off magical incantations, summoning hellfire to slaughter the opponents. I jogged up next to her after a break in the attacks appeared. "Hey brat, are you doing good?" I said to her, "No.. No I'm not. I'm using a lot of mana trying to keep these monsters at bay," she'd reply between pants, "but you seem to be doing just fine, dear brother." The next wave of hungry beasts appeared on the horizon. "More of these? They just don't stop, do they?" Kelly would say to me, I simply shrug her off and let her resume. "Come forth flame spirits, char my.. my... enem-" she said just before collapsing. "Hey, Kelly! Stay with me!" I yell loud enough for even the gods to hear, as soldiers approach to retrieve her and retreat, I dash off to the front lines and draw my sword.

I scream out the forbidden spell,

"Those that have fallen, live to die again, Summon Undead!"

Soldiers near me shutter as the ground quakes. The earth around me breaks as decaying corpses rise from the earth and form a wall of undead. The unit charged towards the pack of wolves hastily closing in on our foothold. "Go to hell, you damn filthy mutts!" I scream out in pure hatred. Outnumbered by the beasts, the walking carcasses were mutilated. Zombies getting their limbs torn to shreds as what little toxic fluids they still have floods the field, Skeleton bones crackling like a burning fireplace, My force was devastated and left in shambles. Despite their best efforts I still had 4 wolves I had to deal with by myself but I thought it'd be a walk in the park. Taking them down seemed easy, my sword dicing the demons clean in half, barks and howls filled the air. It was over before I knew it. Only then I noticed blood pouring from my leg, I felt nothing from it and had overlooked it during the fight. However, it's clear now that one of the bastards pulled a bite off. These foes had one secret weapon, their poison tipped fangs. Shit. I quickly pulled a healing potion from my pouch and downed it, but the damage was already done, the poison had already started to set.

As I hastily start my way back, I feel myself growing weaker and my vision begins to fade.

Is this where I die?

My body goes limp as I collapse to the bloodied grass..

I'm sorry I couldn't make it back to you, sis..

The sun glare had barely met my eyes one last time before everything went dark...
