Lending A Helping Hand

Allen left the forest and climbed a hill from where he was able to sight a nearby village.

"Perhaps, the man is from that village. Let me go take a look," he said and began to descend the hill. Soon, he reached the foot of the hill and continued his journey to the village.

Because it was nighttime, no one was outside of their house and so he was free to walk around however he liked.

' This village is a small place, I don't want to stay in a place like this ' he thought to himself as he went around the whole village.

"Help! Someone, please help me!"

Suddenly, he heard the voice of a man calling for help. The voice was distant but he could hear the man's voice, loud and clear.

"It's not my business," he said to himself and turned to leave but then again, the voice came. This time, the voice was getting weak.

"Please, anyone... help me!"

"Damn it!" He cursed and began to run in the direction of the voice. As he got nearer to the place, he sniffed the air and caught the smell of a monster. Realizing that the person could be in danger, he increased his pace. On getting to that place, he saw a weak man lying on the ground with a monster above him.

The monster was the same silver monkey he had killed earlier but this one was bigger and the silver was darker than the other one.

[It's a higher-rank silver monkey, defeat it now]

' Like hell, I know ' He inwardly replied to the system and then dashed forward at the monster.

The monster didn't see him coming and when it did, it was already late because Allen had grabbed him by the tail and swung him away causing it to slam itself on a boulder. With it out of sight, Allen rushed to the man and helped him up.

"Sir, are you alright?" He asked the man.

"I am, thank you for saving my life," the man replied and made to bow his head but Allen quickly stopped him from doing so.

"Find somewhere and hide while I go finish up my fight," he said to him and then ran off to where the monster had fallen.

"Such a kind and strong kid," the man mumbled with tears in his eyes as he watched Allen run toward the monster.

Meanwhile, as the monster saw Allen running toward it, it stood and shook itself before running toward him as well. As he got closer, he leaped high into the air and dashed toward Allen at a high speed that one could not calculate but then, It was still no match for him.

' I can't use my vampire abilities right in front of the man but since it's dark it won't be a problem' Allen thought as he watched the monster dash toward him at a fast pace. "Do you think you are too fast for me? Tsk!" He scoffed and waited for the right time to grab the monster with his claws and then slam it down to the ground. The monster yelled and tried to get up but Allen was pinning it to the ground, making it difficult for it to move. "Since it's dark, the man won't be able to see what I'm doing," he said and then dug his claws into the monster's neck and pulled out its head from the neck.

[You have completed your task, and you have been rewarded with 50 points]

' Just 50 points? That's not fair!' Allen thought as he listened to the notification in his head. He felt wrong that the system only had to reward him with just a small point after defeating a higher-rank silver monkey.

"Kid, you have killed the monster, thank you so much for saving me," the man as he approached Allen said to him.

"Okay. Sir, what were you doing outside at this time? And why didn't anyone in this village come out to help you?" Allen asked the man. He was quite surprised that no one came out to help the man despite his cries.

The man sighed before answering him. "I returned late because the work today was too much for me. And you see, the thing is that monsters always roam this entire village at night so it's a rule that everyone should return to their houses latest around six but today, I returned late and was caught by the monster. As a rule in this village, no one would come out to save anyone who has been caught by the monster because sometimes, these monsters copy human voices and then cry for help, this way, anyone who goes out to help will fall into their traps. It was meant to be my death day today but you saved me, thank you so much."

' I don't know why I helped you, perhaps you are a kind person. Do they still exist? If so, then this world is better than earth ' Allen thought while staring at the man. "Well, I did what I had to," he replied to the man.

"It's late, I should get home immediately. But before that, can I ask you a question?" The man asked him.

"Go ahead," Allen replied.

"What is a kid your age doing outside by this time? I get you aren't from this village but still... " The man paused as he studied Allen. "It's not right," he concluded.

"I'm looking for a place to pass the night because I happened to arrive here late," Allen replied. Part of what he said was the truth while the other part was a lie.

"How about you come over to my place? Allow me to repay your kindness," the man said, more like a plead.

' It's better I follow him to his house than roam the street at night. First thing tomorrow morning, I leave, yeah!' "Okay, thank you then," he replied and followed the man back to his house.

When they got home, they were welcomed by a lady and a little girl. Surprised and happy as they were, they continued to hug the man until they were fed up.

"Honey, I thought we won't see you again," the lady said amidst her cry.

"You should thank this kid for saving my life," the man replied and glanced at Allen with gratitude in his eyes. "He's going to spend the night here, I hope you don't mind?" He asked his wife.

"Honey, I don't mind at all," the lady replied and smiled at Allen.

After their discussion, Allen learned their names and occupation. The man is a clerk while the lady is a nurse and then they also learned about him that he is an orphan roaming the world with no place to call home. Then, the lady — Mrs. Rose prepared a room for him before returning to her own bedroom.
